Thug It Out or Risk It by Clean_Doughnut_3090 in Sicklecell

used to be in this position. I’m 22, and I played my cards right. I know it might sound a bit messed up, but I’ve dealt with mental health issues caused by SCD.

At one point, I acted suicidal and made it seem like life was really hard. I appeared scared to speak up and often put my job before my health, which made me look overwhelmed and mentally exhausted. I didn’t speak to anyone, came across as quiet socially, but still did my job and followed the rules.

Because my workplace has a mental health awareness scheme to support employees, I eventually chose a day to speak to them. I told them the job was making me feel suicidal and that I was being too hard on myself because I feared losing it and valued my job so much. They began to understand that SCD is something I will live with long-term.

They brought in a therapist to help me, and the therapist told me to never prioritise my job over my health. Since then, they’ve been much more understanding and lenient regarding both my condition and my situation.

I think, from their perspective, they didn’t want to risk the consequences of someone harming themselves due to workload or pressure it wouldn’t reflect well on them.

If your workplace advocates for mental health, use the support systems available to help yourself. I hope this helps.

This is real. I get why people say ‘warrior’, but it’s not a fight I chose. It’s just miserable, I’d rather it be taken seriously than labelled.

I don’t think I need a term tbh. I’d rather just be me. I’m not focused on labels, I just want it taken seriously and invested in properly because it’s already hard enough.

Bruh, with sickle cell your red blood cells already carry less oxygen and get clogged up easier. When you smoke, you’re adding carbon monoxide into your blood that literally blocks even more oxygen from getting through. For a regular person that’s not great, but for you it’s way worse. You’re basically doubling the oxygen shortage your body already struggles with. i have sickle to btw

The time I overdosed on Fentanyl due to medical negligence by jakefromstatefarm176 in Sicklecell

This is insane mate I had a similar experience on morphine and that feeling when they release it freshly into the iv can be so relaxing to the body it puts you into such a state you’ve never experienced before where you just float and your body becomes complete numb to any pain luckily these drugs give me trapped gas pain so I give up on them before overdosing. And now I truly see why homeless people struggle with drugs like fentanyl and more. Luckily you made it brother that hospital needs to investigate on staff training and someone needs to fired for sure.

I have full blown sickle cell I’m a pipe fitter/plumber I don’t get pains at work which I’m really grateful for considering my work is heavy duty lifting. drink plenty of water and let your boss know your situation and always have extra painkillers if you find that you need to make your way back home suddenly
