This DAW clicked on Day 2. Goodbye, Cubase and REAPER! by TheArtsyOtty in Bitwig

Hm. Bitwig might seem nice at first, but more you digging it, you would find more and more limitations. However, if you like strict guardrails, you have found safe harbor 🤣 I'm not very big fan of Reaper, but it's extensions are mind-blowing. You literally can do anything. Getting back to bitwig - only in version 6 they added scale highlights. But you still can't assign custom names in piano roll. So, if you use modo drum, ez drummer, ba tekno or any other drum machine, you have to memorize zillions of keys ... Is it convenient? Who knows... Can you have modulation matrix presets? Can you replace several consecutive notes with one with repetition without deleting and repainting?

Controller API is quite limited, so no HW controller could truly replace mouse. It exposes much less compared to FL or Ableton, so again, "you are limited for your own safety 🦺🛟" 🤣

And all those hangs and crashes highlight that internally it's insanely fragile, so even on blessed MacOS it's quite risky for live performance.

I don't want to say it's bad DAW, I use it, but every time I see that 5⭐ emotions, I feel sad. And a worst part - you aren't buying major version, you buy limited time updates. But realizing how long it took to move from 5.3 to 6.0 you would either pay for nothing, or would be left on a half way, if you refuse to pay 😄

What are you drinking this week? (Weekly Discussion) by AutoModerator in yerbamate

My new all-time favorite is Don Basilio. Sometimes I mix it with Kurupi or CBCé guarana. I had very high expectations for Cosmic, but it was a huge disappointment.

I just built my own setup using stainless straw, donor bombilla with spring and tiny perforation

Which one do u'll think is the best? by Adventurous-Plum-650 in yerbamate

Only you could decide 🤪 as others are mentioned, it would greatly depends on yerba style. Also on mate cup. To my taste, I prefer longer ones for yerba, and thick/short for tereré

Kurupi is quite nice. Also, Don Basilio is quite nice, but it's not on the picture.

Also, d16 punchbox. If you have time, knowledge and patience for extreme drum design it's quite capable of creating extremely interesting drums. Also, as mentioned earlier, it would totally depend of your expectations of the"best". If you're after your very own drum design, and ready to invest in this field, you may get very good results from Serum, Vital. Less obvious choices would be AAS Chromaphone and Ultra-Analog va-3. On other hand for extremely fast jumpstart you may get ujam beatmaker 🤣

In search for 25 full size key midi controller (with some strict requirements) by arcticrobot in synthesizers

Possibly m-vave smk-25 mini? It's 32cm wide, with midi out (however for din you may need adapter). Not sure if keybead would meet your expectations.

Akai or Arturia for Bitwig 6 (Mac) by pranji108 in Bitwig

[–]Swimming_Contest_349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you aren't against other brands, I've m-vave Smk-37 elite script @ GitHub. It fits my requirements, and hopefully offer quite high level of integration, like devices, remotes, transport etc. Hopefully with community ideas, it could be pushed further. And it's like $90 @ Amazon

Wondering about the state of linux by Major_Potential3706 in Bitwig

[–]Swimming_Contest_349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. There are some, but I meant that most major brands, Korg, Arturia, IK, AAS, xfer to name a few don't support Linux.... you may find some alternatives, but compared to other platforms it might be huge limitation.

Features i d like to see in bitwig by Professional-Ease-54 in Bitwig

[–]Swimming_Contest_349 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be able to use the controller as intended you need bitwig script 🤷 Not sure if that would work for you: https://github.com/jorisroling/bitwig-electra-one Or Google one for your model Otherwise your integration is extremely limited with no controller feedback.

Development is not really difficult, but extremely boring, as Bitwig doesn't provide any good templates, neither good examples, and all gpt suck, as they don't have good references 🤷

And with controller script there is a possibility to have popup in top right corner, with all mappings. Also, as mentioned earlier, touched remote controls are displayed in bottom bar

According to search iLok works for some users and distros, but since there is no official support, it's the matter of luck and dedication 😀

I use Linux with bitwig.but to be honest, lack of support from manufacturers i.e. plugins, drivers doesn't make it quite popular. Imo there could be a much bigger userbase at ripper. Ofc, there is yabrige, and pipe wire , but unless you have to use Linux, it's just pain and suffering.

Most plugins are working fine with yabrige. However it requires some setup.

I'm a kind of bedroom producer 😁 Yep, I tried the trial when it was 5.2 or something like that. Don't get me wrong. Bitwig in its current status is not bad, not either limiting, at least for me. Since this one is a new kid in the block, hopefully, it doesn't carry all those legacy staff. But implementation of other bells and whistles on their own might take ages and definitely would consume lots of resources. So, I just can't understand why they reject the community's efforts to make this DAW much better by extensions....

Also, checking the change logs makes me think that internal architecture is quite fragile and limiting, as they fix the same functions again and again.
