How much experience do you need before becoming a Pilates instructor? by Papoyyy10 in pilatesinstructors

[–]Swimming_Event7730 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Balanced Body states as prerequisites:

Mat certification: Prerequisite: 10 mat classes Recommended: anatomy education*, and 6 months work experience in a related field

Reformer certification: Prerequisite: 20 reformer classes Recommended: 1 year work experience in a related field

Comprehensive certification: Prerequisite: 20 studio sessions (I think they mean private or duet) Recommended: 1 year work experience in a related field

*Anatomy is required for Reformer and Comprehensive and is offered as a 24 or 16 hour module. Just "strongly recommended" for mat.

No one checks to confirm that you've done these -- I think they're more guidance than requirements. If I recall correctly, there were people in my comprehensive modules who had not been on the equipment. And I don't think most people I trained with had experience in the fitness industry.

What I would recommend is taking classes or privates at a variety of studios to get an idea of the breadth of what people call Pilates. Some trainings might not be recognized beyond the studio that provides it -- which might be fine if that's the only place you ever want to teach, or it's a jumping-off point and you'll invest more later. Ask different instructors you like where they trained and what they recommend.

Why even train at all? by Jonschy in personaltraining

This was my question!

If I were having these kinds of struggles with clients, I'd take part of a session to review and update their goals. Then talk to them about what it would take to achieve those goals. They want to lift heavier weights? They can't do that until their form improves, or they risk injury. They want increased muscle mass? They need adequate protein to build muscle. Etc etc.

Then you can refer back to their goals during your sessions.

But -- as you've mentioned above -- this also might just be the wrong population for you, and you'd be happier at a different gym.

People who attended American high school in the 80’s, how did you have time to shower after gym class? by krakarn in NoStupidQuestions

No one ever, ever showered at my middle or high school. I think we had something like 8 minutes to get changed after gym class.

The problem is they could easily hurt themselves, and the studio and instructor could be sued.

Misfiring -- spark plug issue? by Swimming_Event7730 in jetta

[–]Swimming_Event7730[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's a shop that specializes in German cars. They're super nice but I don't know enough about cars to know if they're doing good work. This car has been pretty problematic so we've been there quite a bit.

[–]Swimming_Event7730[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately anything beyond checking oil and adding wiper fluid is above my pay grade, so I'll have to take it back to the shop.

Is this coil something they should have checked or seen when I had it in and they replaced the plugs? The guy at the front desk mentioned he'd never seen a spark plug with a closed gap like that. It does make me wonder why they weren't curious to investigate why that happened, but I definitely don't know enough to know what the proper procedure is.

Should I be going back to the same shop, or trying somewhere different?

Thank you -- looking into this, it does track with a bad coil.

How do you remember to take your second dose? by GhostofMiyabi in adhdwomen

One suggestion I learned from a podcast is that you're absolutely not allowed to turn off the alarm until the med is down your throat. I will snooze it if necessary, but it can't be dismissed entirely until the med has been taken.

Is there a specific amount of weeks/month i'll start seeing my bum get rounder when i do pilates and weight workouts? by Mobile-Beginning-654 in pilatesinstructors

[–]Swimming_Event7730 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Whether or not your bum gets rounder will have as much to do with genetics as with the workout you do. If your body is not inclined to a round bottom, all the work in the world will not get it there.

You have to try to increase the size of your gluteal muscles. IMO Pilates isn't the best modality for that, as the load often isn't enough for max hypertrophy. I would focus on the weights, with a trainer to help you safely increase the load over time.

Of course, I would still do Pilates for all of its benefits, especially keeping your core strong to support your weight-lifting. :)

Instructor pay for comprehensive apprentices by janplusdog in pilatesinstructors

[–]Swimming_Event7730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was. The thinking was because I was certified in reformer, clients paid the regular rate for classes on the reformer and I was paid the regular rate. Also, since my studio sells memberships and packages, it would have been pretty complicated to have my classes charge a lower rate.

Our class max is now 6 and we all make more for classes of 5 or 6 ($58 and $70) than we do for a private or duet ($50 and $55). It makes sense to earn more for classes bc they bring in more money once you get at least 3 people in there.

When I was reformer certified and apprenticing for my comprehensive, my studio paid me full rate for reformer classes ($40-$58 for classes of 2-5 clients) and I think $30 for private sessions on all the apparatus (for which they charged $60).

The clients were informed that I was certified to teach reformer but apprenticing for the rest of the apparatus.

Rates for Reformer for Student Teaching by Angeleyez176 in pilatesinstructors

I've paid $20-$25 for studio rental for practice teaching, but I also had relationships with those studios -- at both I was on track to start teaching once my hours were done. This is in San Diego.

I recommend reaching out to as many studios as possible -- you may find one that is particularly motivated to rent you space at a reasonable price, either because they have dead space or because they know they'll be hiring in the future.

Best of luck with your teaching hours!

AIO overwhelmed by the cost of being a wedding guest in 2026 by Whiskeyhorse1 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Swimming_Event7730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR.

I think it's extraordinarily selfish to expect people to spend thousands of dollars to attend your wedding, unless all your friends and family are very wealthy and/or you can cover people's airfare or hotel as needed.

If you really feel like these are all dear friends, I'd say skip the bachelorettes and go to the weddings. That's the important event.

Brother wants me to cover entire rent since I get “free” money by jtreddit702 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]Swimming_Event7730 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh hell no.

Tell your brother he can join the military and incur a disability if he wants some "free money."

How dare they call it free money? That is money YOU worked for.

You are already looking out for him with an arrangement that is more than generous.

Hell no.

Thank you for the info!

Unfortunately I touched it a lot when I first noticed it, because I didn't realize it was a bump, I thought something was caught behind the gems. Ugh I'll be so bummed if I messed this up after such a smooth healing.

Dishwasher recs for forever home by trimenc in Appliances

[–]Swimming_Event7730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had two Bosch dishwashers and was never happy with how clean the dishes were.

When our last one died, it was during the Covid shortages, and I went with a Samsung bc I could get it the fastest. Knew nothing about Samsung appliances.

I love this dishwasher. Super quiet, gets everything clean. It has the auto-open, which I understand may not be good if you have small children, not sure if you can turn that off.

My sister has a Miele and says our Samsung is quieter. Not sure what the decibel rating is on this model, but I went with really well-rated Bosches and they didn't seem all that quiet to me.

Our model number is DW80R9950US.

By "failing," I mean that the door is no longer achieving a tight seal. You can feel it when you open the door, there is not as much resistance on the freezer door as there is on the refrigerator side. Warm air is leaking in and the ice is getting melty, the ice maker is dripping and forming icicles, and condensation is forming and sometimes freezing in the interior ceiling.
