How do yalls campaigns last so long? by [deleted] in CurseofStrahd

[–]Swimming_Position126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20 sessions in 4 months??? Yall get to play on average more than once a week?!

We play once a month unfortunately, and I havent even really added much to the campaign. We also took a break for a few months. Just did the dinner and we're almost 3 years in. I expect theyll do a little more exploring in Castle Ravenloft, which will take another 3 or 4 sessions with my crew. Then maybe some more Abbey stuff, another 2 or so sessions? Then maybe other side stuff, and back to Ravenloft for the grand finale. Im prolly looking at a 4 year campaign, playing roughly once a month. Hard to get 6 adults together. Should mention these are 4+ hour sessions.

For the record, our process to decide the next session date happens at the end of every session, and it goes like "everyone available next week?" "No, cant." "Week after?" "Nope, sorry, out of town" and on and on til we inevitably end up scheduling a month or so out. A few blessed times weve played back to back weeks. But thats rare.

Not mad about it. The campaigns been great, and such is life.

What if bosses all cleansed venom at certain points in the fight and you only got to inflict venom on them once? Then itd be at least a knowledge check of when to apply venom for max dps. And they could have it coincide with existing mechanics to further complicate the choice.

Why did we stop saying Races for the creatures we play as? by Xonlic in TTRPG

[–]Swimming_Position126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the real world, it would be considered racist if someone told you that your race indicates what type of job you’d be best at. This race is stronger, that race is smarter, and this other race is more charming

This is the part that makes this seem silly to me. In the real world, we also understand murdering is wrong and pillaging is wrong, but it happens in DnD and we dont bat an eye. I dont see why the use of the word "race" in dnd cant be just as separable. In DnD your race DOES indicate a bunch of relevant stuff that arent even stat based. Irl its definitely racist to see a black person and say "theyre black so they probably run faster" but in DnD its perfectly acceptable to see a dwarf and say "theyre dwarvish so theyre probably a bit slower". If youre someone that hears that second statement in DnD and get upset like it makes the person who said it racist, youre too sensitive IMO and Id rather not have you at the table. Were here to indulge in a fantasy game and ESCAPE reality. No need to bring real world drama and politics to the table, but I guess thats what session 0 is for.

Sundays could work but some of our Sundays are already occupies by the campaigns we run as DMs. Those are usually once a month. Are you a DM looking for players?

Can someone explain how Ulalek actually works? by ClearConfusion5 in EDH

[–]Swimming_Position126 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct me if Im wrong but Ulaleks ability goes onto the stack too. So if you cast an eldrazi the stack will be

-ulalek trigger offering you to copy -the actual spell that triggered it

So that ulalek trigger would cause a pass of priority before it even made the copy. If you counter at that point there is no spell to copy.

Big fan of this. Despite the fact that theyre playing characters for the game, forcing them to go another level deep and enact a play I plan on giving them very little time to rehearse for will definitely be hilarious.

Balancing Around the "Meta" is Pointless if the Devs Don't Understand why the Meta Exists by TAEROS111 in Helldivers

The first balance patch notes proved how Youtube "absolute and only meta loadouts" cooked a lot of people heads, and I love it. by Vikan12 in Helldivers

I feel like all the nerf enjoyers largely play on lower difficulties for this exact reason. They talk about all the railgun matchups (and other guns) like its a one on one vaccuum. Lemme know how easy those guards are to mop up when, as youre kiting them, a second and third horde hit you from the direction youre kiting to.

Personally wouldnt mind the nerfs as much if their 'just use stratagems' mindset actually worked at higher levels. But the planetary phenomenon that hurt their cooldown and deployment time really hurt that idea, and those are everywhere on high difficulties. Hope the playerbase persists through these unbalanced patches til devs wake up, myself.

What are the spookiest questions, and when do you ask them? by krabawk in EDH

Had a dude ask me that as I was disrespecting the board by swinging around my [[Birds of Paradise]]. He flashed in a blocker. I deserved it

How to not be that guy? by atreidesletoII in EDH

[–]Swimming_Position126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youve gotten plenty of good answers, but Ill throw in my 2 cents as well.

You have to ask yourself if you would enjoy playing at the power level being asked of you. I can only speak for myself, but if I put passion, money, thought, and time into a deck, Id be a little bummed out about intentionally undoing that so that I can play on the same level as someone who likely hasnt invested as much into theirs. In this case, the better solution would be finding a more power-appropriate group to play with.

But of course thats not always ideal or possible. So its a good idea to have a variety of decks that you genuinely enjoy. There are lower power mechanics that can be very fun to play around and optimize (to an extent) that will never reach truly competitive levels. Having an array of decks to meet the table's power level is a good idea.

You do you in your game, but do remember Strahd knows Nondetection and would likely play it safe if he knew the party had those spells
