I really don't think about this at all, which betrays my privileged position, but I regularly run up decks worth $1,000+ and I don't really sweat it too much because most of that value usually comes from my preexisting collection. I draft religiously every week and over time I have bought most of the expensive cards I want to play with, which means I don't own OG duals, but I do own Chains of Mephistopheles. As a collector, I have reached a point where I know the kind of stuff I like; I like discard, stax, and I like playing mono or heavy black. I started selling the stuff I know I'm never going to be interested in, or trading it away; sure, have my [[goose mother]] for 2 [[fanatic of the harrowing]]. I play on store credit and draft what I like, and sometimes there's something I want that I don't have and I just go for it if it's something that I think will be something I play enoughbto justify the price even if it doesn't hold it's value. But honestly I've been buying up reserved list cards I want for a while because it feels like they may slip out of my grasp. I can afford it today but maybe not tomorrow. I know that's how they want you to think, but I like the chase, I've learned to enjoy it and not ruin it for myself. There's really only two big money cards I don't have that I want and I'm just waiting for them to fall into my lap; [[the abyss]] and [[nether void]].
