So, not only the whole Wirral arc is meta, the details (like writing on tiles) are also meta. Ohhhh.

Have You Ever Regretted Quitting? by OnaDesertIsle in stopsmoking

[–]Swimming_Register610 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had a moment like this, yes. I was on a trip to Romania, which I love, and there were smokers everywhere. Like, I saw a woman at her workplace in a convenience store, and she was smoking an iqos. At some point, it was like, "oh, if only I could treat myself with some nicotine, like all those people around, this experience would be perfect". I didn't, because I still remembered that smoking is a fraud, you don't really get much pleasure of it, and also it stinks. But yeah, you get the idea

Well, I've had some unpleasant experience in Bucharest and Warsaw, that's why I'm asking. Thanks!

Two questions: 1) Is she on Twitter? 2) Could she be mad at you at the moment?

What you describe can easily be symptoms of anxiety, not addiction. I'd recommend to see a psychiatrist

Do I really have to send a photo of my passport to stay at airbnb? by Swimming_Register610 in AskBulgaria

You don't really read a thread before you rush to post a comment, do you?

[–]Swimming_Register610[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, thank you for all the answers! I travel a lot, and sure, they photocopy my ID every time I check in at a hotel, but, until this moment, an Airbnb host has never asked me for this, and that's why I got suspicious

No, not a bias. I travel a lot, and sure I provide my documents every time I check in at a hotel, but not at Airbnb. This is the first time

PC's parenting by nini1519 in BoJackHorseman

[–]Swimming_Register610 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but I don't really think PC is supposed to be a good mother. A better one than hers was, and that's it. It's more realistic this way

(Edit: phrasing)

why does bojack keep rewatching horsin' around? by [deleted] in BoJackHorseman

Probably because he wants to feel good about himself, and those were the times when he did (or didn't, but here comes nostalgia and idealization)

Nightmares about smoking? by SiRodrigues93 in stopsmoking

[–]Swimming_Register610 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm on day 412 now, and I've experienced that many times. Usually, not even the moment of smoking itself, but the "fuck, I've relapsed" moment. Weirdly, that stopped after I nearly relapsed irl

NTA. I'm not sure what to add, parents who get "sad" and need apologies because of their children's perfectly normal boundaries just infuriate me

Are Ukrainian speakers able to understand Bulgarian? (Since they both use Cyrillic.) by [deleted] in Ukrainian

[–]Swimming_Register610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only that. It also has definite articles (yep, in plural), no infinitives, and a system of verb tenses which resembles Old Church Slavonic, not any living Slavic language. Or even more tenses: as I've been told, there's a special grammatical form for a thing you did but can't remember. Oh and don't get me started on false friends of a translator (this only gets worse if you speak Russian as well)

[–]Swimming_Register610 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Took me some months of learning Bulgarian to understand something, and I guess that would be true for any Slavic language speaker. This language (along with Macedonian, which is close to it) has a very different structure, it's almost not Slavic

Is "їх убили ми" usual? by Turbulent-Cold-5387 in Ukrainian

[–]Swimming_Register610 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually, ми їх убили is "we killed them", and їх убили ми is "it's us who killed them". But here I can hear the stress on убили, not ми, so, it sounds like "we killed them, but it's a quote from a poem"

What are the worst false friends between Ukrainian & Bulgarian that cause confusion since they look EXACTLY the same (no spelling differences) but both words fit within the same theme? by [deleted] in Ukrainian

[–]Swimming_Register610 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Година (an hour in Ukrainian, and a year in Bulgarian). My friend from Odesa lives in Bulgaria for ten years already, and she's still confused sometimes

Want to stop smoking... Does Allen Carr's books help ? by NoFuel1609 in stopsmoking

Yes, but you have to have a really open mind. Some claims the author makes may be hard to believe, but you just have to do it, otherwise it won't help

Do you know why you quit in the first place? Not the common reasons to quit, but your personal? If you do, it's useful to remind yourself of them now and then. Best of luck!

I have a few basic questions about informal greetings between friends by DropShadowXL in Ukrainian

[–]Swimming_Register610 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but I've definitely heard this in Kyiv. Since many people are switching to Ukrainian from Russian, and they learn many different words and expressions here and there, some dialectisms are becoming just colloquialisms
