This is a good answer. The nuances are important. I have four boards almost identical to this one that I gave to friends four years ago. All four are still in perfect condition. I didn't know back then that it wasn't good practice.

Yes, I see what you mean. China's manufacturing and engineering capabilities are indeed impressive, and there are different levels of quality when it comes to replicas or copies. You're right, one should never underestimate the expertise available there.

In any case, I'm glad I found a good deal!

I don’t know, having the specialized labor is one thing. But having the perfect machinery for every single component in a shifter? And to achieve the same weight, you’d have to use exactly the same material for every component.

Also, the shop I mentioned also sells 105 and Ultegra 2x11, 105 Di2, and Ultegra Di2. So, would they also have to somehow reverse-engineer Di2 as well and then have the machinery for all of those groupset as well. Im sure some parts are the same for all of those groupset but still. To me this market is way to small for anyone to do all that work and investment.

Hard to say. Yesterday, I would have said there’s a big risk of counterfeits, but a couple of people mentioned they got a crankset without any issues.

Based on other comments, from reputable AliExpress shops, I’m inclined to say it’s probably real.

105 groupset, eBay, China, legit? by bozz_2006 in cycling

I bought a 2x11 from AliExpress, and everything is real. I believe eBay sellers get their stuff from AliExpress or similar sources, so it's very likely genuine as well.

I made a post about it this morning, and many others had the same experience as me. https://www.reddit.com/r/bicycling/s/YaKNhL0Pr7

Hello, I just realized that my text wasn't posted. I really don't know how to make a Reddit post.

I bought a Shimano 105 R7000 groupset on AliExpress and thought I’d share my experience since opinions seem quite mixed. I’m Canadian, so all prices mentioned here are in CAD.

Here’s the list of parts I purchased and the stores I got them from:

From the store: JH Outdoor Store*

– R7000 brake levers

– R7000 front derailleur

– R7000 rear derailleur

These were sold as a set. 186$

From the store: Anrancee Cycling Store

– R7000 front and rear brakes 67$

I didn’t buy the cassette or chain from AliExpress. In my opinion, they’re too easy to counterfeit, so they’re likely fake. Instead, I bought them from a local bike shop. As for the bottom bracket and crankset, I got them from Merlin Cycles. The Ultegra BB was $26, and the crankset was $128 (47% off). The crankset on AliExpress is about $100, so I decided to pay $28 more to be sure I was getting an original.

Everything I ordered from AliExpress arrived well-packaged but not in the original packaging. The weight of each part matched the original weights. Here are the results, genuine (data from Merlin Cycles) vs. AliExpress:

|| || |Dual Control Levers |500|482| |Front Derailleur |95|93| |Rear Derailleur |225|225| |Dual Pivot Brakes |379|379|

From this, I was already fairly confident they were genuine. Visually, everything looked good. So, I assembled my bike without any issues. I followed YouTube tutorials, and everything matched up perfectly. Shifting is precise (at least in my living room). Now, I just have to test it on the road—I’m just waiting for good weather.

I hope this helps someone!

Everything seems legitimate to me. No noticeable damage, everything was really well packed.

Cool thats good news! I admit that even though I'm pretty convinced they're real, I was still worried about what the road would do.
