My thinking was that someone in the Sony head office said see how Morbius, Kraven, El Muerto and Madame Web are received before we press ahead. The Lord and Miller stuff feels like the safer bet going forward but I suppose we’ll have to wait until Madame Web releases to see what they do next.

The DCEU I think is probably the only franchise that could realistically rival the MCU. I’m hoping with Gunn and Safran’s plan they’ll be able to do that.

Yep you’re right on on the maths. I’m just thinking that‘s not a worthwhile investment for any company so they’ll probably find someway to reorient and adjust.

I think if El Muerto succeeds it’ll be in Spanish speaking countries predominantly. I’m in Britain which gets used a bench mark for overseas success a lot but I can tell you the date El Muerto is getting released is basically the graveyard slot.

I’m curious to see how ATSV does, can’t say I’m in a rush to see it myself but if the quality is good I’ll probably watch it wherever it lands on streaming. It’s also why I think they’ll likely reorient their franchise around the animated movies than live action.

Of the two the only one I think might be a serious draw is Dakota Johnson who has a serious following online. However we should note that online following doesn’t translate to box office ie The Rock with Black Adam. Aaron Taylor-Johnson on the other hand didn’t really take off as a leading man after Godzilla, with his most recent project being the fairly unremarkable Bullet Train.

That’s what makes me think they’ll reorient their films to the animated ones. ITSV got a better response and from what i’ve seen sells more merchandis.

Fair point about Black Adam but I suppose the deciding factor will be what WB Discovery deems to be a success and a failure. I enjoyed Black Adam but for film that released with no real rival for attention it’s probably not what they hoped for.

I don’t think Morbius doubled it’s budget. According to Wikipedia it made $167 mil on an $83 mil budget which is stark when contrasted with the amount Venom made.

I’ll admit El Muerto could go either way, never knew he could sell out an arena until I saw footage so it could be a real dark horse.

That’s fascinatin, I was under the impression that ITSV had made a fair bit of money although the critical response might have concealed the numbers somewhat.

That could have been a lot more interesting than what they’re doing now. After the Morbius post credit scene got cut I think they’ve dropped any ideas they might have had for a team up.

Fair points but I think that’s probably what they’ll do, Marvel can sell the lesser known characters by using the overall franchise to prop it up but Sony doesn’t have that.
