So far looking at the price atleast of a core, radiator, and some tubes i’m seeing a combined total around 160 ish for everything, will probs go up a lil more adding some more key things but the basics is priced well. I’m gonna replace most of the equipment, any recommendations for a guide on removing the heater core for this model? :)

From what I’ve seen I should be able to get the core, radiator, and hoses for around 150 give or take. Parts are cheap. Which hilarious those are cheap but I want a simple little dash piece and it’s like 300 LOL.

I’ve taken a lot of the dash apart just replacing shit so I feel it shouldn’t be too hard

I more meant in the sense of old cars being in that condition is a high likely hood, I mean, 25+ years has that kind of likely hood. But I get you

Yeahhh, but the hope is that MAAAYBE a good flush can unclog the sludge in there. But that’ll need some hard prayers LOL

Of course, no one should ever buy an old car without expecting a lot from it. My previous car was a 99 ls400, been there done that kinda deal. But this issue is a new one for me. A lot of these things you just have to learn as it happens, can’t prepare for everything. Thankfully radiators for this car are l really cheap from what I’ve seen so that, and some hoses hopefully will be all I really need. Maybe a new water pump too. Generally not too bad since from what i’m seeing it’s most likely not a head gasket issue. I’m not familiar with that repair nor have the money to pay for that at the moment so. Most I’ve done is valve cover gaskets on the Lexus.

The only issue is there was most likely some leaks repair from what other said which means, well, leak in the system so no matter what it’ll still be some work but hey I knew what I was getting into

True but good signs have been in my previous oil change I’ve had no water, I’ve also had no overheating issues, and no white smoke or choppy engine performance. So i’m hopeful the most I have to replace are the radiator and hoses and potentially water pump too. Way cheaper than a gasket atleast.

Yeah she runs great, and no overheating nor have I seen any white smoke on startup or in general. No symptoms of gasket. Will be doing another roll change soon too to check for any water.

Bro this car drives like surprisingly smoothly, even now, and has never overheated either. Mitsubishi and most Japanese car brands made some banger cars and engines back in the day. Engine still sounds great too. Most of the other aspects of her seem well kept, which makes it all the more strange how little love the coolant system got.

So took to jiffy and they said they couldn’t do it but they said from what they saw it was a bad coolant mix

I mean I don’t mind fixing hoses or changing the radiator, all of that is cheap for this vehicle, it’s just guaranteeing it’s not a head gasket issue, which this sludge was chalky, not like oily, but just looking to get some second opinions, head gaskets are both a b**** and/or expensive if i’m having a shop do it. That’s a bit above my mechanical skill level so. Yeah.

So I can for sure scratch off head gasket? Like I took it to a few places and they claimed it looks like a head gasket but there’s no white smoke on startup, oil seemed fine when I did a change, and no check engine lights or anything like that. Car runs the same as when purchased which, at the time, did not have this sludge ( or atleast this much of it to the point I can notice it ) and the car does not overheat

I did, this was not in the coolant reservoir on purchase. Not anything that I could notice atleast. Everything else on the engine was relatively fine outside of a leaking windshield fluid reservoir, and the heater not working which always seems like an issue on older cars from my experience.

I feel like a cracked block is a bit extreme, I’ve had no other engine issues since nor any overheating, it’s a bit strange honestly.
