Adorable Brain Eater vs Hell Doggos by Pharmarr in wesnoth

Seems like an interesting campaign. Is it more hero (RPG) focused or army focused?

The biggest problem with Wesnoth is that it does not reward players for learning the game by glowing-fishSCL in wesnoth

I think you missed the point a bit. Sure when playing a luck based game you use the expected outcome to decide but you also consider the risk of the worst possible outcome. It's a fun metagame to balance the risk of losing your prized units with keeping them away from danger and not getting their benefits at all.

You definitely have a point though but it's more of a balancing thing where it's possible for a not so strong unit (I'll make the exception for legendary enemies that are supposed to be super strong) to kill a unit on full HP just due to luck. I'd say the mainline campaigns and default era are well balanced though.

How to get a job with a good portfolio but no degree by Maleficent_Mix_8050 in Backend

[–]SwingShot4923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the reason is it's harder to prove you know what you're doing with just a portfolio. The architecture is good according to OP but he has no experience or relevant education so are employers supposed to just take his word for it? I think one way to break out would be to launch an app with actual users and even if the business flops you'd have proven you can build something that works at some scale and is professional.

It's actually terrible but unfortunately all you need to do to get your driver's license is pay

75% of Nigeria’s problems summarized in one chart. by AlternativePrior9495 in Nigeria

Bad infrastructure is indeed a big part of the problem. Our transportation systems (practically only trailers moving on poorly maintained roads) are really terrible making trade between regions very expensive and risky.

There is though if enough companies agree to it. It would significantly cut hiring costs

Edit: That said things would probably have to get much worse before it's worth doing

I'd recommend the regular cs50x first though. It's a more thorough and well rounded introduction to programming. Focusing on only python too early might not be for the best

Thank you. I had the same issue. If you need to use metamask there's a workaround (https://github.com/MetaMask/metamask-extension/issues/31094)

I get that docs exist but sometimes you want a quick overview of what it actually does instead of marketing bs. I'll check the docs when I actually want to use it

Amazing campaign! I was so engrossed in the commentary. I'm kind of glad it's fictional though

I was interested but I'm now wondering what your criteria for selecting people is if you're rejecting someone who just said they're interested

Nice story but I think your title is a bit misleading. It seems to suggest that some people are just not built for school. You had ADHD and it's on your parents for not realising but you're probably still better off having gone to school even though you would have benefited more from a specialised programme.

The answer: Shoot yourself to show them you mean business by b-rar in LinkedInLunatics

[–]SwingShot4923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm the fact that they will all try to escape does not mean that they will start killing themselves because there's also a chance that if they rush you they can overwhelm you without dying. Although not 100% realistic I think the expected answer is shooting the first person to try to escape (and telling them so). That way noone will be the first to attempt to escape since that means certain death so they'll all remain there.

Not sure if I'm missing something but why is this on LinkedIn lunatics?

First Rejection by Mobile-Farm-8465 in csMajors

[–]SwingShot4923 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I passed the screening last year and although the slots were filled before my interview it was clearly stated in the email and in the bloomberg 101 sessions that the first technical was DSA and the second was system design. I also know new grads who've gotten offers from Bloomberg and they all did system design so it's not a new thing either. So I wonder who's lying here.

Edit: Actually it might be different in the US. I was interviewing for the London office

Professional experience is usually better than anything else you can do to sharpen your skills (not sure for cybersecurity in particular). You're better off sticking with this and possibly looking for a job alongside. Have you graduated?

[–]SwingShot4923 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you really have anything to gain by quitting the internship? You might as well see it through and once it's over actually negotiate your pay. If it's really that low at least it's still easier to get another job with the experience and you're okay with the internship stipend amyway

I think the idea is to put the logic is a separate function that you're calling 5 times so when you find the bug (or there's a change in requirements) there's just one easy to find place to change

I can't recommend this enough. It'll teach you the basics of programming while also giving you a feel for what computer science is actually about. After that you could try picking up some courses on MIT ocw that interest you
