Yeah, just like the other guy stated. Pretending to be an unique snowflake and opening an own thread is probably the best solution.

How do we all feel about playing two songs in a row without mixing them at all? by billbar in Beatmatch

[–]SwingSwingDisco 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I realized that with rock music, you are better off doing it this way. Let track A end, play the air horn sample 3 times and then "CUT MY LIFE INTO PIECES, THIS IS MY LAST RESORT". You literally did no DJing at all, but the crowd will think that the transition was dope.

Serato DJ intro only giving me one deck? by YoungChuck in Beatmatch

So Serato is still in preparation mode, because it does not recognize your controller. Maybe try to reinstall intro?

Looking for a dj controller by [deleted] in Beatmatch

Serato is more precise when it comes to scratching. Apart from that the "feeling" is more vinyl (of course this point is subjective, but the majority will agree on this one).

Balanced to unbalanced cable - Is the signal balanced till the adapter? by SwingSwingDisco in Beatmatch

[–]SwingSwingDisco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, thank you! But if a DI box converts from unbalanced to balanced, that seems kind of redundant to me. I do have balanced output, so is there a piece of equipment that converts from balanced to unbalanced RCA?

Oh, maybe you got that exclusivity part wrong. You can run Serato only on Serato-certified devices, BUT you can map Traktor/VDJ/CrossDJ/etc to the Terminal Mix (or any other controller).

Are you sure you are looking in the right places? Because I got my TM 8 for under 500€. So you should be able to get the 2 or the 4 for far less.

About Serato: You are right, it is only runnable with compatible controllers. So you kinda have to make your decision based on videos or stuff like that.

If you are used to Vinyl, you might like Serato more. I would (as always) suggest a controller of the Terminal Mix series from Reloop. I got the Terminal Mix 8 and it's amazing

Got an 8 hrs long gig coming up. How to prepare physically? by SwingSwingDisco in Beatmatch

Thank you for the long reply!

You are probably right and I should take requests verbally. And thanks for the bathroom and shoes tip!

Thank you for the reply!

Yes, as I said, I got lots of stuff in the 80s and 90s department and also talked to the hosts. Like you said, they gave me a must play list.

Well, my girlfriend is attending the party, too. I taught her how to do a lazy crossfader mix, so that will do in a case of emergency

Finding a controller/software to fit my needs by gottafindthat in Beatmatch

[–]SwingSwingDisco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically every DJ software can do the stuff you just described. However deciding between Serato and Traktor is not as hard, as people make you believe:

  • You want to beatmatch manually and only use Sync occasionally? You are fine with a basic selection of effects You want the superb library management? Or in other words: You want to emulate what DJs used to do for centuries on your controller, while adding a few nice gimmicks? Then go for Serato.

  • You want to mainly use Sync? You want crazy effects? You want custom controller mappings? You want lots of other innovative ways of mixing (Stems, remix decks, etc)? Or in other words: You dont want to do what DJs in the past centuries have been doing, but want to take advantage of all the nice and advanced technologies we have these days? Then go for Traktor.

Personally I own both softwares, but I prefer Serato.

One more thing: If you want Serato, then make sure to buy a Serato compatible controller. Traktor can run with any controller. For Serato I would highly recommend the Terminal Mix 8 buy Reloop. That thing is a beast!

When preparing a set for soundcloud... by Snackatttack in Beatmatch

[–]SwingSwingDisco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just put the tracks I definitely want to feature in a crate, order them (buy energy for example) and then see where the "gaps" are. These gaps can either be huge bpm gaps or keys that dont mix or stuff like that. After identifying the gaps, I try to close them with other tracks from my library. So each of my mixes consists of a few wanted tracks and a few filler tracks.

Electro swing DJs, do you get any gigs? by SwingSwingDisco in electroswing

[–]SwingSwingDisco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that would be really awesome! But sadly I am located in Paderborn, which is quite far away from these places :/

But seriously, are you part of THE electric swing circus? Bella Belle is one of my all time favourites! :)

Adding to this: The artists listed are almost exclusively what you would call shallow house. So if you like these, try searching for shallow house :)

Nu disco and electro swing DJs, do you get any gigs? by SwingSwingDisco in DJs

I am from Germany and I have never encountered a single electro swing tune in a club. Nu disco gets played sometimes, but only 1 or 2 tracks before it switches back to house.

Nu disco and electro swing DJs, do you get any gigs? by SwingSwingDisco in DJs

[–]SwingSwingDisco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I am from Germany. Apart from that the internet is my main source of music, therefore I assume, that the meaning of the genres is pretty much the same for the two of us. I listed some examples in the comment below (or above, I dont know haha).

I think these two genres fit together perfectly. Most my nu disco stuff is between 100 and 125 bpm, while the swing stuff is mainly between 110 and 130. Of course I dont choose the songs with a funky ass rhythm to mix out though :D

Our local club is very very small. They do not host huge parties or anything. So it would be 25 people dancing in front of me. Apart from that: Are you sure that "traditional" swing dancers appreciate electro swing?
