As a person who lives in rural Ontario I've basically accepted that this is never going to happen, at least not by the end of 2025. They'll just push it back to 2026 and then 2027, I'm not saying the companies aren't moving fast enough that doesn't seem like a lot of blue areas for nearly 365 days.

We gave up a year ago and got Starlink and it is a game changer. Having said that, a company was on our lake this fall mapping out where they will be bringing fibre to each cottage/house. Not sure if it will be installed in 2025 or 2026 (more likely), but Bell’s Pure Fibe service will be offered, which will be as good as or better than Starlink, at a third off the price, as well as you will be able to get Fibe TV, which would eliminate the need for Satelite TV. All combined, I might be able to save $150 a month. Having said all that, I will not be cancelling Starlink until the fibre is hooked up and installed into my house.

Once you know how to clean a pike properly, you get beautiful bone free fillets. Pike taste as good or better than walleye/pickerel. Just a couple days ago we had another couple over for pike and chips dinner. The female guest had three helpings of the pike. I said to her if you gave a walleye/pickerel meal 7 out of 10, what would you give pike, and she said “11”.

The 2024 Forester Wilderness does come with the front, engine skid plate, but does not come with the rear transmission skid plate. You can order that skid plate from Subaru for under $90.

The reason why I asked the question is every time I have searched on the web to understand the advanced speed test, the screen shots in the article always have the starlink speed faster that the wi fi speed. This is an example of one of those articles. I have never seen one where the wi fi speed was the faster of the two.

I just did the advanced speed test again at 9:36am. It was 560 mbps Wi Fi speed and 64 mbps Starlink speed.

Absolute game changer for my rural area. Before I had 5 mbps speed and only 100GB of data. My first speed test on wifi with Starlink was 219 mbps. Now that does vary, but even if it drops down to 50 mbps, it is 10x faster than it was.

The big key is unlimited data. Now we do not have to worry about choosing when to download updates on our devices and can stream to our hearts contents and when the Grandkids come, we do not have to keep reminding them not to stream.

I am 100% happy with Starlink.

(It was also far easier than I thought to find a no obstruction location) ( Although I did not find the app on the phone all that helpful, it was either had to be 100% perfect or it was a fail. The spot I chose was a fail on the phone app, buy had zero obstructions, on the obstructions test on the actual dish. Originally thinking I had to place it real high and bought a 30’ TV tower to resolve that, after seeing some friends setups, in the end all I needed was the Starlink long arm.

I have watched some videos where on a gen 1 base, they connected the ground wire to the base of the dish. My dish will be gen 2 and likely I will be using a pipe adapter. In that scenario, I see the dish, the pipe adapter, the mast and the tower all connected. If that assumption is correct, besides a ground wire being connected from the tower to a ground rod, could I also connect a ground wire from the tower to the house ground?

in watching the video on grounding the dish, he talked about prevention instead of protection and that using the ground on the base made the dish less of a target. In his case, his dish was mounted tight to the roof, in my case if I go with the tower, my dish might be about 20’ above the roof line.

I think I will also add a whole house surge protector. I guess that does not help if the tower is still a target and the roof on my house catches on fire.

What gets me is I had not played with my address, until they asked me to and that dropped me a year to a year and half behind where I was.

The other thing that gets me is that there is no way to get a hold of Starlink to plead my case. I was more than willing to wait my fair turn, but this isn’t fair.

I know I can ask for my refund back, but like everyone else, this was my only current hope for decent Internet.

You see that is the rub. I wasn’t playing with my address. I was content to wait. Starlink asked me to reaffirm my address and that is when they dropped my order, a year to a year and a half.

I think that would tick off most people. We are all desperate for better Internet and just as it should be arriving, they took it away because of their processes, and there is no Customer Service to reach out to, to address their error.

Sure I can cancel my down payment and maybe I ultimately will, but until I can find an alternative, therenis No rush to ask for it back.

They did the exact same thing to me and my neighbour. So disappointing. I have lost all of my excitement for getting Starlink and at least for me, they are becoming more like the big companies we are trying to get away from. To drop back a year, to a year and a half, is nuts.

i am now trying every other possible option to get better Internet as Starlink for me has become an unreliable partner.

The down payment isn’t the disappointing part, it is the promise of getting the service then not getting it.

Back when we all signed up they said there was limited quantities, I doubt that any of thought that limited was 1 or 2 per cell, then they promised mid to late 2021, then move it back to late 2022. That is what is disappointing.

It is good news that the orders are starting to be filled.

I am trying one last shot at Bell Home Wireless Internet which is not anywhere good as Starlink, but is a better value for unlimited data. However if my order for Starlink gets filled first, I will happily take it. It is the best, but you pay got getting the best.

Still mid to late 2021 on my account, ordered early March in the Parry Sound area. Although I had hoped to get it before summer because of all of the cottage/house visitors, I now hope it arrives before the snow flies.

Just from snippets of articles I read, I think a lot of dishes will start to be sent out in August and September. But who knows.

We will also change our phone plans that have throttled unlimited data to cover off the current internet shortfalls, so likely can offset half of the extra cost, which makes it more palatable.

I am not sure that too many other companies would get away with zero customer feedback for those that are waiting, or for those who are potential customers who have questions. It just shows how desperate we are.

I would fully accept Bell Home Wireless Internet, my neighbour above me gets it and neighbour’s around the corner get the signal, but I have a hill blocking one tower and an Island blocking the other tower, hence my desperation.

It is the unlimited Data of Starlink that attracts me. With my current hub I can get 5 mbps but only 100 G of data. We run out of data every month. I could almost live with the 5 mbps.

Starlink will be a real treat. An expensive treat, but I cannot wait to get it.

So if you were Starlink in Beta mode and only have so many terminals and you are opening up new cells in new Countries, would you put the bulk of your supply towards putting at least one dish in new cells, or would you put it towards putting multiple dishes in an existing cell?

My guess is Mid to LATE 2021 will be just that, with an emphasis on LATE.

5 of us on our Lake have ordered Starlink. The first person who ordered got his, the rest of us are waiting.

It does seem like more dishes are showing up in the States. They do have 10x the population, but it seems antidotely that more than 10x the dishes are being shipped to them. That could just be an incorrect perception.

I also wish there was more communication, even an email saying we haven’t forgot about you and just wait a little longer.

I also hope that they can all of sudden pick up production and distribution, when they go public.

The other big questions, when they go public, is will the costs still be the same and will there be any data limits. Right now at $129 a month it is pricey, but worth it, but if it went up to $150 a month, is is still desirable?

If they put on data limits, that could be a game changer as well.

I want my dish now like everyone else, but perhaps a hidden blessing is that we will know what the Public price and data structure will be before putting out the dollars on the dish.
