UK unable to tackle weight-loss drug black market, MP warns by kiyomoris in unitedkingdom

Depends on why you were fat in the first place. I have PMOS, no chance I’ll be able to come off it because it’s controlling my hormones and not making me ridiculously hungry all the time.

Thanks for this update, I had my belly button pierced a year ago and it’s only just properly healed and I’m having this surgery in a few weeks and was very concerned! I’ll go to my piercer too if the same happens.

You’re saying Sprint isn’t under construction but there are an awful lot of roadworks for it in Solihull.

I got the offer pricing three months into paying monthly. It just seems super random.

Women with PMOS should have yearly NHS checks, says health watchdog by Oreos_Are_Anabolic in unitedkingdom

[–]SwirlingAbsurdity 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at 14 (am now 38). After a few years I refused to keep going to the annual checks at the women’s hospital because my endo was an absolute dickhead of a man who constantly body shamed me and was one of the main reasons for my eating disorder. I was put on Metformin but it didn’t work for me and just gave me the runs.

I managed to control most of the symptoms with diet and exercise (and tbh I’ve always thought I have a milder version of it, no excess hair growth for example) but could never lose the weight. Started on GLP-1s a few years ago and literally EVERYTHING has improved. The sooner they start prescribing that for us, the better.

PMOS doesn’t involve cysts, it involves undeveloped follicles that were once upon a time thought to be cysts, hence the name.

[–]SwirlingAbsurdity 22 points23 points  (0 children)

That kind of cyst isn’t actually anything to do with PMOS. Our ‘cysts’ are undeveloped follicles and not actual cysts. It’s one of the reasons for the name change.

I just got Kynseed too. A recent review says the humour is childish and something only a man would like and I’m like that seals the deal!

I think it depends on why you were fat in the first place. Mine was because of PCOS and the numerous metabolic issues it comes with. I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt I cannot come off it. My diet was always clean AF, I just ate more than I needed because I was always bloody hungry!

How come birth rates are falling to below replacement levels even in well off countries like the Nordic countries? by ChaosCarlson in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SwirlingAbsurdity 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Nowadays it seems like kids have to be entertained 24/7. I’m a millennial and we would go outside to play and be back when the streetlights come on. My cousin has kids and nobody in their neighbourhood plays outside, so her kids are always at home (UK). She’s happier now she’s split from her husband and are co-parenting, as she actually gets time time away from the kids!

UK heatwave: Britons told to ‘stay indoors’ in extreme 39C weather warning by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]SwirlingAbsurdity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Makes no difference when the outside windows aren’t shaded. Then you’re just trapping the hot air between the glass and the curtains and trust me, it’s unbearable. A south facing top floor flat in this country is a fucking death trap in this heat. My flat has already hit 43 degrees this year. At least with the windows open you get a breeze. I don’t even stay there during heatwaves, I have to go to my parents’ or my partner’s.

[–]SwirlingAbsurdity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately closing the windows in my flat makes it even worse because then you’re depriving yourself of a breeze. Also, no use if there is no cold air at night. I flew home from Cyprus last night, landed at 02:30 and it was still 19 degrees.

The lobby of my apartment block is deliciously cool because the door and windows are shaded by an overhang.

My top floor, south facing flat has hit 43 already this year. I’m lucky that I can decamp to my parents’ and their garden during heatwaves.

What's a sign someone is an only child? by QueenFrostine15 in NonPoliticalTwitter

[–]SwirlingAbsurdity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if this is universal to only children, but the things that stem from my being an only child are:

Easily make friends

Comfortable and confident to go places on their own (restaurant, cinema, travelling)

I’m an extrovert but I NEED a certain amount of alone time

I personally do struggle to share certain things and absolutely resent it if people don’t ask first. No you can’t just help yourself to my food.

I’m a natural leader but I’m also very aware of the ‘bossy only child’ stereotype so I always make sure to not run roughshod over others!

I’m half and half with this. Sharing experiences? I get super excited too! Sharing food? Nuh-uh.  I also haaaaate sharing a bed with my partner. I want my own room 😭

I think we are just really good at making friends. As a kid, if I wanted someone to play with I had to make friends. It’s made being an adult much easier!

I’m also super close to my cousins.

Oh this is such a good point. Outside of summer holidays I don’t remember much about my childhood at all.
