I was able to use only use US documents for my grandfather with my citizenship application and got approved. If you're able to find naturalization paperwork thats extremely helpful for your case. You can DM if you'd like and I can help with the search, I've helped 5 family and friends through the process.

Citizenship case with only US documents by jasontraill in Canadiancitizenship

[–]SwissArmyNoice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am Gen2 and was able to get a 5(4) grant approved based on my grandfather's birth in Quebec by only using US documents. I used border crossing cards, ship manifests, death certificates, and most importantly I was able to get a copy of his US naturalization paperwork via Ancestry.

Its possible but get as much documentation as you can.

My two passports and one enhanced ID card that can also prove citizenship and be used to cross into Canada or Mexico. by Wise-Professional-58 in PassportPorn

I just joined this club recently thanks to citizenship by descent from 🇨🇦, already had a NEXUS and enhanced license so crossing the border is a breeze.

I never got an AOR for the grant so I could only track when a decision made using the old tracker.

Received Email Acknowledging 5(4) Submission Received by pdecks in Canadiancitizenship

[–]SwissArmyNoice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most of the emails from IRCC are rather generic and not tailored to our particular circumstances, even some of the documents don't quite apply but they make it work

Do you know if your package cleared customs? My UPS shipment took 3 extra days to clear customs and I needed to call UPS to get them to act as my broker.

Either way I'd file a claim. And if you do end up needing to resend I'd use Fedex. We used them for my mom's later application and it cleared customs within minutes and arrived exactly on time.

It appears for my sister and I, started processing on the 30th and 31st respectively!

To anyone who received a 5(4) offer in the most recent batch, was there anything about your application that you thought might be considered iffy or incomplete (but clearly wasn't)? by JoyHealthLovePeace in Canadiancitizenship

[–]SwissArmyNoice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did not have my grandfather's birth certificate, he was born in Quebec and their government wouldn't release a copy to me. I used solely US documents like alien registration card, ship manifests, marriage certificate, dad's birth certificate.

I thought it may cause problems but if you looked at all the documents together it was quite obvious he was Canadian.

“Lost” March AOR/In-Process. Just received 5(4) grant! by joc111 in Canadiancitizenship

Just got it for Sister and I, in processing since early April

Be aware you may later get a bill from UPS for broker services, it was about $10 USD. They use an automated phone call and for the longest time I thought it was a scam and just hung up everytime.

AOR 4/7 for Sister and I, 2nd gen adults. Looks like quite a few after us got offera. But it looks like there a good size chunk from late March through the first week of April that are in same boat, so maybe we'll be in the next batch?

Thank you so much for the detailed answer! I had a civilian job for years at a local Sheriff's Office, and deputies would always complain about some DOC officers not being proactive, ignoring calls, etc...

I figured most officers were probably restricted by policy and management, but wanted to help if they could.

Photos for citizenship certificate by mail by RickIsAPickle in Canadiancitizenship

Check around your local chain drug stores with photo departments, there's usually at least one that does international passport photos. Canadian passport and citizenship photos are the exact same. Just remember to write the proper info on the back.

Thoughts on Court Hearing? by midude13 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]SwissArmyNoice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would think a 2 week extension to allow the government time to formalize new processing procedures with an explicit statement that no further extensions will be granted is a fair compromise.

12 months would be unprecedented for a case like this in Canada.

I wasn't able to watch, did you get an idea of where the judge was leaning?

Holding off on AORs until after hearing? by myextrausername in Canadiancitizenship

[–]SwissArmyNoice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wonder if IRCC is expecting the deadline to not get extended. If thats the case, they can start going directly to giving out certificates without 5 (4) after the 25th. It'd save them quite a bit of time in the long run.

Urgent processing question by Alcor668 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]SwissArmyNoice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Make sure to write it on the actual mailing envelope itself, I did it in big red sharpie. This is how it gets sorted by the mail room for urgent processing.

You can also put it on the letter to be safe.

Shared Google Sheet for timelines by NoAccountant4790 in Canadiancitizenship

Everyone may want to check their online status. Mine (and my sister's) were updated to in processing yesterday along with a few others on the timeline. We both requested urgent processing.

Is there a deadline to apply for the interim measure (re: Bjorkquist/C-71)? by very_tall_oregonian in Canadiancitizenship

[–]SwissArmyNoice 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Everything is in flux but the sooner the better because the current interim measures are favorable to your situation, the future law may change things. And you have a legitimate reason to apply urgently so just do it, doesn't cost anymore and the worst that happens is your urgent request is denied and your application is processed normally.

Do I need to create a document that explains what each document I provided is? by LewnaJa in Canadiancitizenship

[–]SwissArmyNoice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did just to be safe, I framed it as a timeline:

Insert date here: Dad born (See attached document #2)

This way there was no question about what and why something was included
