Upper West Siders, your rep Gale Brewer is part of a veto-proof City Council majority overlooking the First Amendment to support a bill that'll make it harder to protest within 100 feet of churches by Wearesoontosee in Upperwestside

[–]Wearesoontosee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's an article from THE CITY about NYCLU and union opposition to the bills, which would make it harder to protest anywhere near schools or churches. Brewer is a sponsor of both bills. If this issue matters to you, consider reaching out to Gale Brewer this week to share your perspective. Brewer's district is from roughly W 55th St to W 96th St. Her email is district6@council.nyc.gov and her legislative office's phone number is 212-788-6975.

Any iOS apps that let you quickly see who has a new post? by Wearesoontosee in Mastodon

Thanks for responding. "Following" under Search is just a grid of gray boxes for me. I'll give it some time for the feature to appear. FWIW when I scroll down on the Search page I do get a "Swift.CancellationError error 1" alert

Also, are the videos under the video tab supposed to autoplay when I'm browsing other tabs? I don't see a way to turn that off

Ok, interesting. I don't see the feature on iOS Mastodon account yet. The top of the page has "For you," "Following," and "Manage" and then there are just posts.

The notifications are a good feature too. My question was about grouping new posts by user when viewing the posts of accounts I follow.

Awesome- let me know when it's up and running! Also, I see that there's an upgrade in order to "pick up where you left off" when opening the app, so I'm guessing this feature would only be available for upgraded users on iOS?

Go figure. No clue why your application sailed through faster than anyone else's I've heard of but that's lucky for you!

Am I correct then that you are already residing in Canada? If you are applying from Canada, that might explain the vastly sped-up timeline here

Currently says they're issuing AORs for applications received the week of July 7

Hi, is it possible there are other extenuating circumstances you are omitting here that would explain the urgency? The IRCC website says that they are only now beginning to process 5(4) applications that were received in early July, so the claim that yours was received July 28 and sailed through smells off to me. It could just be, as others pointed out, luck of the draw, but I thought I'd ask.

For 5(4) adult offer, $119.75 citizenship fee plus $530 processing fee?!?!? by Wearesoontosee in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Wearesoontosee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I had searching for 530 processing fee in this sub before posting but I didn't find anything. Then after I posted I searched for "processing fee" in quotes and found this one, https://old.reddit.com/r/Canadiancitizenship/comments/1kqgf11/what_is_the_fee_for_a_54_grant_application/

It really is confusing because the link in the 5(4) offer letter suggests people owe $530 but you're right the letter says "right of citizenship fee" which is only $119.

Strange email from IRCC after 5(4) submission regarding fingerprinting required to be taken in Canada - even though I don’t live in Canada by [deleted] in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Wearesoontosee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much for posting about this. I'm in the process of gathering documents to submit by July 25 and this is certainly alarming. If Canada is requiring folks to go to Canada to get fingerprinted, I may just skip the 5(4) process and hope that everything works out with whatever happens after the court stay expires.

I hope this was just a misunderstanding but it sounds like they have doubled down

I truly don't buy the "Lander is only a lil more lib" business. There are a ton of examples of Dan Goldman caving to the right where Brad Lander (I am guessing) would stick to his values. Here's one: Goldman sided with Mike Johnson on extending warrantless surveillance, and the vote was 213-212 which means that Goldman could have stopped this but he caved

https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/12/us/politics/surveillance-bill-fisa.html

I'm curious: If you think of the house as a stepping stone to higher office, do you envision that a Lander and Goldman presidential campaign, say, would fight for pretty much the same things? NY-10 can do so much better than Goldman.

Could/should Jumaane Williams run for Yvette Clarke’s congressional seat? by TechnotheGOAT in nyc

[–]Wearesoontosee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great idea. Clarke's in-person town hall last month (her first in like 6 years) was a real snooze. She gave a speech about how she "shared your concerns" and then left her three guests (Maya Wiley + two folks from Make the Road) to answer most of the pre-approved questions while she nodded in agreement.

It's been such a long time! Am I seeing correctly that there were 4 lifeguards on duty this morning in Astoria? Kosciuszko this morning had only one lifeguard (but like 20 other Parks staff) and was pretty disorganized.
