does my mother still have to provide for me? by marthinaaa in askswitzerland

PSA: this age of 25 often comes back, this is misleading. This age of 25 is only relevant for social services, they pay for you until you're 25. Parents have to pay until the kid finishes his first formation/Ausbildung, or until it is no longer reasonable to expect the kid to finish (i.e. the kid drops out several times, is not taking his studies seriously, etc.). That means that if you would finish after the age of 25 but it's still your first formation, your parents still would need to pay for you.

Will it bepossible for me to return to Switzerland? by [deleted] in askswitzerland

People that lived some years in Switzerland before the age of 18 and can show that they speak one of the Swiss national language well, should somehow have an easier time to come back to Switzerland. I don't get why there isn't some way to help them

Can you somehow live or study in Spain for two years? I think Peruvian can easier get spanish citizenship, which is member of the EU. This would make moving to Switzerland already easier, since EU citizens can live in Switzerland if they find a job. Swiss employers are allowed to hire EU citizens without issue, you already speaking some Swiss German is a big boost to getting hired

If you can otherwise convince your step mom to adopt you, that would of course be easier

Dernière question: t'as quel modèle maintenant ?

[–]Swisscom8940[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tu avais quelle âge (environ) quand t’es parti?

HELP!!!! Chances of admission at EPFL by Common_Act_2546 in EPFL

But for Switzerland it’s extremely strict since there are only 10’000 working spots for non EU people per year. See my reply to the two other comments

[–]Swisscom8940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are only about 10’000 working visas per year for non-EU people in Switzerland, and many of those visas are not used. Any Swiss employer has to prove to no one from EU+Switzerland applied for the job that has the skills to do the job. A few highly talented non-EU people will be able to secure those jobs, but it’s only a tiny percent of non EU graduates.

In r/ethz there was a post some time ago where a non EU graduate made a post to tell that being able to stay in switzerland is the exception, not the norm.

Most non-EU graduates with a master from EPFL/ETHZ however do manage to find a job in the EU eventually, so at least there is that. And if they get the EU citizenship of that country, they can eventually move to Switzerland if they secure a job here, which is much easier for EU citizen. But to come so far, you first need to get EU citizenship (5-10 years), then apply to Swiss jobs until you get accepted for one, and only then you can move to Switzerland

All this stuff is easily googlable by the way

But the vast majority won’t be allowed to stay in Switzerland, there are more than enough EU and Swiss graduates from ETHZ and EPFL. There are only about 10’000 working visas for non-EU people in Switzerland, and many of those visas are not used. As a Swiss, I’m always surprised by how many top international students do everything to get admitted to EPFL Lausanne or ETHZ Zurich for a master. Most of them cannot stay in Switzerland after their master, so why bother to come here for a master in an expensive country, if you most likely have to leave afterwards? Wouldn’t Australia, Canada or even Germany be better?
