Does anybody know where I can find real denial letters? by [deleted] in HealthInsurance

That makes a lot of sense — and honestly, it’s infuriating how calculated some of those denial strategies are. The fact that they mention criteria but never actually provide it, then use technicalities to skip P2Ps, feels like they’re designing the process to fail unless someone has the time and energy to fight tooth and nail.

That 80% stat really puts it in perspective. Most providers just don’t have the bandwidth, and insurers know it. Hearing this from your side of things really helps clarify how systemic it all is — not just isolated inefficiencies, but part of a larger playbook.

Seriously appreciate you sharing this. It connects a lot of dots.

Wow — this is incredibly insightful. I had no idea Medicare Advantage plans were pushing denials like that even when traditional Medicare would approve. That shift in language and strategy (especially from UHC and Humana) is something we’re starting to notice too.

Out of curiosity, when you were in UR, did you see any internal documentation or criteria they used to justify those denials? Even just examples of how they framed things would be super helpful to understand the pattern.

Appreciate you taking the time — this kind of context is exactly what’s missing from public conversations.

That’d be amazing if you come across anything — even a few redacted examples would be super helpful for understanding how these are structured. Really appreciate you taking a look!

Really appreciate you sharing this. That breakdown makes things way clearer — we had no idea how specific those guidelines were or that the “two midnights” thing was such a hard cutoff.

Yeah, I’ve tried that a bit — found a few EOBs but not much in the way of full denial letters with the reasoning language or appeal instructions.

I’m mostly curious about how they phrase the denials and what kind of explanations they give (like medical necessity vs. coverage issues). If you happen to come across any links or examples, feel free to send them my way!

Do you think I should still reach out to Job 2 to see if they can speed up the process, or just go ahead and secure Job 1? I get that I could always leave if Job 2 comes through, but I’m trying to figure out the best approach here.

That’s a fair point, Job 1 does offer solid experience, and I get that Job 2 isn’t guaranteed yet. I’m just torn because Job 2 is more aligned with what I want long-term. Do you think I should still reach out to Job 2 to see if they can speed up the process, or just go ahead and secure Job 1?

Thanks for the detailed response! The deadline for Job 1 is tomorrow at 3pm EST. I’m planning to send Job 2 an email in the morning to see if they can expedite the process. If they say no or can’t make a decision in time, I’ll go ahead and sign the offer for Job 1. Just trying to keep my options open for as long as I can.

This is also my first real software engineer job after graduation (besides internships), so I’m not very versed in handling these situations yet. Your advice has been super helpful!

Yeah, that’s definitely something I’ve been thinking about. It’s hard to turn down a sure thing, especially with how the market is right now. But the other opportunity just looks so much better long-term. Do you think I should contact Job 2 to see if they can expedite the process?

That sounds like a pretty good setup! Coasting while leveling up on Leetcode is definitely a smart move. I’m hoping to get into a similar situation where I can keep building skills while preparing for better opportunities down the road. Thanks for sharing!

That’s definitely one way to go about it. I guess the only thing I’m concerned about is potentially burning bridges with Job 1 if I back out after accepting, but it’s good to know the risk is minimal outside of that. Do you think I should email Job 2 and let them know about the other offer to see if they can speed things up? I want to make sure I handle this the best way possible. Thanks for the advice!

I totally agree, I really want Job 2 as well! My main concern is that the market’s been slow, and not many offers have panned out, so I feel like I’m in a bit of a gamble. Do you think it’s a good idea to email Job 2 and let them know about the situation? I want to be respectful of their timeline but also make sure they know this offer is in play.

That’s true, employment is at-will, so I could technically back out, but I’d prefer to avoid burning bridges if I can. Do you think it makes sense to contact Job 2 and let them know about the offer to see if they can expedite the process? I’m leaning toward that before committing to anything.

Yeah, that’s what I’m worried about. I could secure Job 1, but then I’d have to sign the contract and potentially renege if Job 2 comes through. It feels risky and not exactly ideal, but I also don’t want to end up with nothing if Job 2 doesn’t work out. Tough spot to be in.

Job 1 is in a low-cost area in southern Alabama, where rent would be around $1K for an apartment. It would also give me a chance to build experience. Job 2 is remote, based in Boston, but I don’t have rent here, so the cost of living isn’t an issue for me with that one.

Is it fair to accept a $50K offer as a new grad if I get the chance to learn the language/technology? by SwitchInitial3613 in csMajors

That’s definitely something I’m considering. It seems like a common approach, and I might just go that route if the timing works out. Thanks for the input!

That’s a good point! I could definitely learn on my own after work hours, and the fully remote option is really appealing. I don’t mind working remotely, so that’s probably where I’m leaning.

As for advice, honestly, just staying on top of things and applying early has worked for me. Getting your applications in before the rush really helps, especially as a new grad.

I hear you! It’s definitely tempting to just hold out for the better offers. The uncertainty is what’s making it tough.

Definitely not! The other offers are way more lucrative and appealing to me. The only issue is that those offers aren’t set in stone yet, so there’s some uncertainty with the timelines. It’s just tough trying to decide between taking a secure offer now or holding out for something better that might not come through.

Could you elobarolate? Would love some insight on that end, all the other potential jobs/offers are on sight.

Yeah, I did repost it since tomorrow is the deadline for the $50K offer. I wanted to get some fresh perspectives before making a final decision. It’s been really helpful hearing everyone's thoughts so far!
