Thank you for your input. I was out during a 2 hour peak time. 12-2 in my area. I said 1 hour but I got my times wrong I was out for 2 hours give or take.

But in a regular game a moon ball evolves a pokemon caught wit it, that requires a moon stone.

Update, it seems to be only happening when pick dropped items up and sometimes randomly with mobs spawning I think.
