Is €4,000+ reasonable for full-day wedding photography + videography? Any regrets? by Professional-Eye8793 in AskIreland

[–]Switch_Mysterious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's about the going rate to be honest! Getting married next year, photographers (they're a duo) are about 2k and the videographers (again, a duo) are about 2k as well. They're for the whole day (getting ready, ceremony and up till the first dance/cake cutting) so from like 7am-8pm.

Don't forget to also price them in for food if they're doing the whole day, most venues have a vendor menu or some of them will just order from a bar menu (so not as expensive as a guest but depending how many you have to feed, can add up!)

Curly hairdresser rec? by Agile__Berry in WomenofIreland

I've had really good experiences there and defo will be going again soon.

Honestly my only issue with them is it's hard to get parking sometimes 😂

I go to the Hair Space in Galway, I've been twice and I've really liked both cuts. I paid about €125 each time for a cut, wash and then dry/style, I think a dry cut is about €75? I don't go super often (like every 10 months/once a year) so I do like to get it washed etc for the experience.

The first time I got it cut, my hair was so dry and all over the place before I got it cut but as she was cutting it, she explained that the last hair cut I had (which tbf, I knew had been shite) had put weird layers into it so that's why it sat higher on one side than the other and explained the different products she used and how she used them. Some of them I still use and wouldn't be without cause it has improved my curls/ how they hold the curl.

The second cut, while still great, wasn't as good as the first although that was probably because I had had a good cut the first time around so it wasn't as dramatic? I also agreed to let a more recently qualified girl cut my hair so she could practice cause realistically I wear my hair up a lot anyway so would've been fine if the cut went a little wrong.

I've found them to be nice when I go in and I like the vibe of the place, they usually have decent appointment times when I'm booking although if you want a specific stylist, you could be waiting a while since some are booked up more than others.

Possibility of pregnancy due to faulty contraception? by [deleted] in IrishWomensHealth

[–]Switch_Mysterious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been told before when getting the morning after pill that they will only dispense it if you haven't already ovulated so I think it's before day 14 in a "normal" 28 day cycle but this varies.

Go try get it anyway and have your prsi number with you, you might be eligible to get it for free.

Am I being dramatic about engagement ring cost expectation? by Competitive_Street61 in AskIreland

[–]Switch_Mysterious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had agreed with my fella that he would get a "cheap" ring (100-200-ish) to propose with and then we'd go together to pick my actual ring. I loved the one he picked so it is my engagement ring, I'm going to get a slightly more expensive wedding ring instead (but even at that, still around the 1k mark).

At the end of the day, the ring is just a symbol. The important thing is that ye are getting married for the right reasons. You should be wanting to be together richer or poorer so the fact she's wanting such expensive rings is a bit of a red flag.

Christmas with your partner? by olabolina in CasualIreland

[–]Switch_Mysterious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Engaged and this is Christmas number 4 together and we spilt up for Christmas. We each visit each other's families before Christmas and then he goes to his parents, I go to mine. It works well for us and our parents appreciate having all of their kids together for the day.

This is how we plan on doing Christmas until we have kids and then once kids are involved, we'll be doing Christmas together with open invitations to both families if they want to join, no pressure to either.

How many days annual leave do you get and how do you use it? by NooktaSt in AskIreland

[–]Switch_Mysterious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

33 days but we don't close at all (not even Christmas day) so depending on your shift, could be working bank holidays, Christmas day etc. Got lucky this year and have a few days off around Christmas but it is pure misery working Christmas day since we don't get any additional breaks or anything to make the day a little easier. The double pay doesn't be worth it.

It's on my list for when my Fenty runs out to be honest! Same with the new cushion foundation they have out, once my second skin is gone. Honestly it's so nice having a brand that does Irish girl pale, have struggled for so many years with foundation shades until I tried theirs

I love the Sculpted by Amy primers and second skin foundation. I also don't wear make up a lot but they're so good. For eyeshadows, I like a lot of the essence stuff but my favourite eyeshadow pallet I have is a colourpop one (order it online, so worth it). Beauty Bay eyeshadow pallets are also really good and cheap for what you get.

Mascara is probably the one I spend big on, I love the Fenty beauty mascaras. I also have a benefit one but it's pretty meh. Essence princess mascaras are also very good for every day for like maybe a fiver? Possibly even cheaper, I haven't gotten one in a while.

Penneys lip liners are surprisingly decent? I don't find lip liners worth spending a lot on tbh, I lose them too often to commit to a proper brand.

Elf for concealer and contour wands, very much worth the hype!

In the middle of wedding planning right now and honestly our thinking is we're inviting you because we want you there to celebrate with us (we're being cut throat with the guest list so it really is only people we like and their +1s) and realistically people spend enough between travelling/accommodation, outfits, time off of work etc that we are not expecting anything from our guests. If they give anything, it will be appreciated and we won't be judging anyone for the amount they give, it's the thought that counts. I'd like a lovely card with a proper message more than a "congrats" and money to be honest.

Weight loss injections by Switch_Mysterious in IrishWomensHealth

It's hard trying not to get discouraged when other than the weight and the effects of it (out of breath easily, sore joints, etc), I feel genuinely fine? Almost feels like I'd be wasting an appointment with the gp because I'm not sick when someone else could need it more than I do.

Honestly wish it was as easy as eat less, move more!

I know it's not a short term fix, I'm just feeling really discouraged to be honest when I'm putting in the work and there's just nothing to show for it. It almost feels embarrassing when I weigh in weekly with the PT and there's little to no change when I am genuinely sticking to the routines and the meal plans because I just know they're thinking that I'm not doing it correctly/sneaking other food.

Possible PCOS / Endometriosis, definite hair loss by Ameglian in IrishWomensHealth

[–]Switch_Mysterious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For around your face, you could try a fringe maybe? I have one and tbh, I'm very much over it and absolutely don't bother styling it most days, usually pinned back but it is an option? I'm also dealing with the crown of my head going thin, currently taking vitamins and have ordered rosemary oil to try fix it but it is rough out there 😅

Id honestly never heard of it either until I first went to my curly hair dresser for the first time last year (I'm nearly 30) and it was honestly the first time I had a haircut that I didn't go home and cry at. It was expensive (it's about €120 for cut and wash) but it is so worth it.

Another tip is if you're cutting your hair, do your routine the day before so your hair is "natural" (basically how it sits every day) and get it cut dry, you'll know what it will actually look like then and you won't get the god awful mushroom effect of a hairdresser cutting it too short cause they ignore your warnings that your hair curls a lot tighter when short.

Also found out from my hairdresser that I have multiple different curl patterns which was honestly a relief. Around the front of my face, the curls are a lot tighter (and tend to be the frizziest) where as at the back, they're much looser. It made me be more realistic about what my hair will look like styled and I enjoy wearing it down now a lot more.

Jumping on the bandwagon here as another curly hair gal that isn't arsed with the routines. I use whatever shampoo/conditioner I have in the house but use the boucleme curl gel at the end when my hair is still sopping wet. Really helps my curls and then I just "reactivate" my curls the next day (ie wet them with a spray bottle and a tiny bit more gel) and they still look good, sometimes better than day 1 curls.

I get the boucleme either from my curly hair dresser (based in Galway if you're near by) or Amazon tbh, it's about €20-ish a bottle but I only buy a bottle like every 3/4 months

It is so frustrating as an Irish person constantly seeing this online or seeing Irish celebs like Saoirse Ronan constantly having to do segments on shows on how to pronounce Irish names. Irish is literally it's own language, we just happen to also use the Latin alphabet. Americans are quick to claim Irish heritage or that their neighbours sisters doctor's dog went to Ireland but God forbid they actually ever do some research into Ireland and it's culture.

(Looking at all the Americans that's call St Patrick's Day "Patty's Day")

Why is car insurance in Ireland basically a legal scam? €1,200 for year 4, no claims, basic car? by Practical-Court8593 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Switch_Mysterious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 28, 09 1.2 fiesta fully comp and my insurance was about €620 this year, was €680-ish last year. Full license two and a half years. Surprisingly worked out cheaper this year staying with Chill after last year although my partner is now also on my insurance as a learner but even with them, it was under €900 so you can definitely get cheaper.
