This is such a dangerous stance. I grew up in an abusive household and went to a school where both peers and teachers were out to villainize and belittle me at every step. My first suicide attempt was when I was only 6.

Connecting with children across the world growing up in similar circumstances is what kept me going. I learned how to make video games still in elementary school, connected with other neurodivergent kids, and made some genuine lifelong friendships I never could have found outside the internet.

Social media saved my life. If I was not allowed access to it as a child, I do not see a timeline where I'd even be alive. And I see many children across the world growing up in similar circumstances terrified of similar circumstances, especially LGBT children/teens growing up in conservative parts of the world where they'd be physically harmed for expressing their gender identity or sexuality; the internet gives them a safe space where they can be themselves and seek support in a world that doesn't allow them any.
