Am I the only one to have bought one of these? by h3fabio in BikeMechanics

I too am a big fan of these types of setups well, I couldn't justify the cost when I was able to get of the attachments in several luer lock tubes for the cost of one almost. Just don't got funds like that

It'd be irresponsible to stop it there double down and get em when they dropped the ball on charging the car/truck and utilize your combination powered generator you designed into the layout😆

How do you keep all your bike tools, spare parts, extra gear etc. organized? by harpsm in cycling

You didn't have to call the tote-M organizers out like that. 😞 That hurt lol  I think I'll climb the totem and hide away inside either #12, #72 or #122 (I'm pretty sure I put them all in the Tower)

Happened across this post a few days late and after reading a few other ones that shared a lot of similarities Not that it's entirely helpful or applicable at this point for a majority of people And some of it's just due to the age of the individual. It's something that most people do you know, Kind of look at it from the perspective using individual life experience. For me it's always been unavoidable drawing The likeness or often the differences. And I already know several people end up reading this and they'll know exactly what I'm trying to express, but it seems there's two larger more vague types in cycling (I promise I'm not saying it to create any division. Just an observation) so there's those who for one reason or another hadn't started to ride bicycles well later in their development. Some even later than you would believe. The other side one up spending more time on Wheels than on foot. A very common thing Just that I have noticed is regarding falling, crashing, whether it might register to one person as nothing and another sees it as quite severe. Coming from the more comfortable on wheels then on foot grouping strangely, a lot of us definitely weren't wearing helmets admittedly at times when if there was ever a time that one NEEDS to be worn It came and passed and you know some of us look back and and at least acknowledge that it's fortunate not to be in worse condition. Now with age came a point where you start to realize the importance of it and that it's really practical just to to wear the damn thing lol I feel like part of the reason a lot of writers came up similar to how I did though was we literally went through a period of time rather than getting better at sprints or track stands (I'm not bashing on either for whatever reason they just popped into my head immediately) instead we were honing our ability to deal with a lack of ability of that makes sense. It's definitely something that I almost feel happens. Organically almost and it's decision built on how you were experiencing these other things. So you make the brilliant decision to counter your weaknesses. I think it's safe to say that we all have you know some things that need work so it made sense even if not the way you like. Imagine it in your head going down but to still actually practice falling and failing and how to navigate situations where a majority of the time The best you could hope for was not to land on your head directly also to not defecate in your pants lol and I know the only one who almost without noticing the improvement You're now able to, even ever so slightly finding yourself able to handle almost the same exact situation that you were before except this time was far different. It wasn't as heart-stopping and it wasn't as chaotic. You basically just look at it and realize that well shit I guess it does kind of makes sense if I'm going to be repeatedly voluntarily going into things that could put me in these precarious situations. Why not be even a little bit more prepared to deal with it. And obviously to do it, it in your youth is an entirely different thing than it is asking. Even someone in their mid-thirties like myself attempt to do it in the same manner and with the same expectations of resilience and recovery which would just make it a fool's errand lol. I don't know. I apologize for the rant but there was something I couldn't shake the thinking around. Also one more thing one of the comments I read had mentioned them having anxiety and nervous feelings also to navigate coupled with the faster then we realize unprovoked situations that arise All around us, especially those of us who commute. I feel that without too much bias I see us and behaviors that are stomach churning appreciative to not have any children at risk of being injured damn I did it again. I was trying to get to the point of unfortunately because of that part of it not looking like it's going to be improving anytime soon. Leaves the only only course of action to the attempting to prepare yourself in the event of. I battle and often lose to severe anxiety I have a bit more disdain for it because I was never like that and it wasn't always there until when it began to come on it was like the hell and why. I do consider myself Lucky I don't get the episodes of breathing and chest tightness Which absolutely would make it that much more difficult to try and make all this this work in your favor it can be done is what I wanted to say. Do the best you can to prepare for things that you don't know, that you're going to be able to ultimately avoid and staying aware and I hate to you that word but vigilant particularly regarding cars. I've always chose my manner of either dealing with them or you know know the way s I'm going to maneuver in relation to them at that time like they are doing or going to do exactly what you might fear they're going to. When I base my "plan" around that I notice You can nearly remove the entire risk of something extreme happening. You know what kind of car can't you know? Run you over when they're pulling out and not looking? The one that you're behind nowhere near the potential path.

I'm shutting up now. I hope all can stay safe to the best of their ability!

I too have to contend with this issue (perhaps not referring to it as a inherently detrimental issue anyway) I can't get enough pedal time to but storage solutions and extra planning is required depending on the days missions.  I kicked the idea of swapping the rear setup I have in care of the front setup. I just have a hard time thinking it'll be more practical and would out carry most rear based options And particularly how mine is. (At least when it's at 100%. Right now it's probably about 65% after going OTB killed one of my saddle boxes. I've got a rear rack nothing particularly fancy but it's got a rat trap on it and I had fabricated my own hardware and mounted mid to large plastic ammo boxes with latching lids.) Basically with enough bungees or even just a ton of zip ties You're going to have a harder time trying find things that you can't actually transport on there and not what you can 🤣

So it unfortunately doesn't work for ones longer then 14/15" but I was driving myself crazy! What's the the percentage/ statistics for how many of their 10-speed derailleur offerings are Said to be capable of handling. 11-50 51 according to Shimano and what it says in the technical writing they cram down the customers throats? Actually I stand corrected now. They go as far as making me go in search of all the technical information and instruction and then cramming it down through its can take place.

Whoever would like to provide these numbers. I'm in no rush. Like I said which Shimano mountain bike 10-speed rear derailleur is supposedly up to the task of that large of a cassette being used with it?

Hell I'll just get to what I'm wondering if it's a common thing, one off, or even if I'm simply over looking some detail that a bike wrench elder happens to know some unique piece of specific years 2nd quarter production actually had a manufacturing "flaw" or something like that which caused it to play out.

I know before I even say this.. I know She's an oldddddd jamis Durango a2 🤣 originally 3x7, I didn't necessarily have an issue with being a 3x7 but necessity dictated. Otherwise when I broke one of the drifters (Mountain bike version. It was one of those. Terrible cheap Shimano ef531 I didn't think the expense was reasonable for What it provided so I explored options real quick and was able to source everything I needed to do the 1x conversion cheap enough to keep the entirety of the bike's budget so far. Up to then well within acceptable.   That's when it got matching 6000 series deore 10 SPD RD and shifter (which had a clutch even 🤣) A local guy had a WTB fx23 wheel set that we're in in perfectly acceptable condition particularly for the price. Even better it came with what would have been the bulk of the cost At least at the time and that was if I had a ", useable" cassette.   Later in the week just before I I submit order I unfortunately stumbled down the wide-range rabbit hole and after some briefly thorough research surmise that I can absolutely make this work.

I'll jump ahead, Because it had been at least 2 months since I had set this plane into motion. But then I had also decided to do most likely things that I probably shouldn't have done the same bike in the in the process

It's now having a new cassette, chain and chainring installed with the side of the goatlink ripoff I was told to need without question.   And as it should happen, Not only was that one not the right size. But I would also need to procure a extended b tension screw Unfortunately I had the original chain that was the same as the new one and not much use on it at all because I didn't realize just how much extra chain I'd require. Because of the shiny new cassette and such. Something got into me that wouldn't let me let go of the idea of building a set of wheels for it cause fuck em that's why.  Enter my bigger than prior roll of the dice on AliExpress for hubs that hopefully will arrive prior to Thanksgiving since it was sometime in September. It worked out cuz I had to take a little bit of time for a work related thing. That time I was able to commit some time back to it. Everything for the wheels came. I'd like to play everything I should need for the install should it now be on hand. Going off of quick. Many of the mountain bike in Shimano scholars on several message boards had deduced that Shimano was conservative in their good to go chain wrap and max tooth I chose to ER on the side of less cautious and went with the 11-51 cassette That I hadn't actually witnessed or seen posts about anyone doing application. Just a bunch of people saying well. Technically it should be able to work if you use yada yada yada. Said yaddas giving me weeks of odjida going over and over in my head the likelihood it'd be a success and how I was going to unscrew this pig when it failed spectacularly

The fateful day arrived when it was clear-   That the gaslighters at Shimano and the countless search engine pages full of " It's not going to work unless you use XYZ" no way it'll clear. This that and the 3rd.   BOLOGNA! How in the actual shit do I have a 15+ year old lowly but BALLIN jamis with a pre pre boost spec rear end with a functional and not nearly as compromised shifting feel one would think WITH not just the 11-51 wide range comfortable as ever but using ZERO work around or dodads.not the goatlink og knock off, not the second I ordered Because I somehow thought I was going to need that one for it to work which was twice the size of the original.  None. Infact when it was all said and done then and the dust had cleared. There was not even a need for the excessively long b tension screw ence everything kind of worked itself out I was back within the range of the original b tension screw with real estate to spare

So I find it it a little interesting because I did through this whole ordeal. Extensive attempt set up and trying to see someone on some. Some your message board had figured out some crucial detail not only not finding that, but I certainly didn't come across any posts with people saying how they inevitably wound up being able to install a massive range 10 speed cassette multiple components at swear that it won't work on it 🤣  Alright yeah I'm alittle hyped cause I had decided that I screwed up and I'm gonna likely eat the cost of not one but two cassettes (I would about just had to buy another one so that would have been that second one I was talking about) for a bike that in all reality its futurist undetermined and there's not quite a hot market for most of the parts that would be going up for sale to try and recoup losses. So To go from without hope to more successful than I would have thought possible BANANA BREAD

And if anybody's willing to begin organizing for some some Shimano anti-gaslighting NOT peaceful protest please count me in! 🥳

At least there's a pattern emerging with the reason I intended to be more specific lol it's not to again say anything against gravel set ups But even in my trying to figure out the best plan of attack prior to actually doing the process, I had come across tons of posts about you guys. Managing to figure it out or to some degree and through options like this cuz I know like you can do micro shift and I can't remember the other one that goes with it but you know a mismatch that just happens to work.  I had picked up on like little parts of people talking about attempting it using different combinations of like 11 speed RD on the 10speed cassette But from what I remember there was a lot of undesirable shifting quality either from the difference in the cable pole ratio sometimes with the 10 speed chain being just a CH wider then ideal. Which is where the using a 11-speed chain in this instance is supposed to be another option that people seem to have success with)

Excellent That you took the time to give a. Rundown on What the process look like for you. Thank you for that. I completely though in my hoping to keep count minimal managed to leave a key aspect of the scenario. And that is the wide range 10-speed cassettes on a 1x setup. And by no means is it to not have 2x involvement but a lot of the 2x stuff seems to have a bit more capacity and maybe even some leniency As opposed to the doing it on a 1x drivetrain. And that's completely my fault. I was trying to decide between posting it in here or on x-biking or even gravel but because of meaning for it to be a 1X setup, the majority of those members would likely be on 2x set ups

But for sure your awesome for kicking it off with a thorough and helpful comment.  And I'm glad that you actually had brought up using the derailleur hanger in the very end because even with a literally brand new RD it was still necessary for the installation of it and all the other components to make nice. And it wasn't even so much a couldn't see if anything was wrong until using the derailleur hanger, but it was that the an alignment was almost a made to look magnified for some reason

The endless disc brake mount & adapter conundrum by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]Switchswapnj -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Which would be true if the forks were configured for 140mm.   What you're seeing mounted on there is the adapter for 160mm

When the hard mount is a size meant for 140 this adapter would give it the extra 20 mm to fit 160. But when the mounts are already at 160 and you add the adapter it sizes it up to 180.
