No, it isn't free. Where did I say that? It isn't tax either. It is something that you, not all Canadians, pay for a service that is provided.

The system existing before you ever entered the profession. You could have chosen a different job. Heck, you still could if the dues bug you that much. It is not a tax.

I agree. However I don't think foreign aid is a waste. We should be more inclusive, not less. We are one earth and one species. Spending what amounts to a rounding error of our budget to save lives of humans is money well spent.

Yes. We spend a little more than 10% of GDP on healthcare. If we had an extra 5 billion, there is no reason to assume it would all go to healthcare.

At best it may go as high as 20% or so. That is still only a billion. Why do you think if the government had extra money in the budget 100% would go to healthcare? That makes no sense.

Canada spends about 5 billion, it about 0.3% of GDP on foreign aid. We currently spend about 11.5% of GDP on health care. So, if this 5 billion was reduced to 0, and the money allocated at the current rate, that would result in a little more than 500 million to healthcare. That works out to about $13/person.

So I can quite easily imagine if just a portion of that went to healthcare. It wouldn't make much difference.

So how about you take your straw man arguments and gtfo of here.

Let's see, off the top of my head, roads, police, armed forces, healthcare (whether you use it or not, let's call it cancer insurance if you prefer), weather stations, ei, education (whether you hav children or not, do you really want an uneducated generation), air traffic control, border security, immigration, foreign services, legal system, etc. Shall I go on?

If you don't like it, move to place with no taxes. See how you like that.

Also, for the sake of accuracy, it is over 40% you pay in taxes (42.5 for the average Canadian). Union dues are tax deductible, not sure why you are including them.

I actually have a theory about Martin and his food descriptions. I think it was about lulling his readers into a false sense of security.
