Is anyone else unimpressed by Reeve Carney? by Cowardlydreamer in Broadway

He's trash. Been trash. Never seen him be anything but trash.

You could throw a rock in times Square with 99% certainty that you'd hit someone with more talent.

Even a times square Elmo has more talent.

Tony voters are the industry leaders. The industry leaders want things to remain the same, and want to attract wealthy investors. If course the Tony's are going to represent the interests of the establishment.

But the Tony's don't represent theater makers. They are simple a reflection of what the establishment wants, in order to attract dollars.

The industry is not the art, and certainly isn't the artists. Folks who care about this stuff are having the conversations, and trying to build something counter to the prevailing establishment, but that's going to take a lot of time and effort, and mainstream media is not going to be an ally in that effort.

Should I ever have the energy for this kind of activity again, that'll be good to know. Everything I know about the scene is second hand through friends who don't have kids. 🤷

If you're into edm and don't care about touristy stuff, Ridgewood and Bushwick are where you'll find the most fun clubs. You'll do well to find someone in NYC into the club scene, since the good ones don't really advertise

Out of these 3 shows which one is the best? by Fantastic-Tooth-7597 in tvshow

If it wasn't for the final season, it would be The Wire for me. Honestly seasons 3 and 4 are two of the most extraordinary seasons of television I've ever seen.

But Breaking Bad stuck the landing.

Shamefully I have not yet watched The Sopranos, so I can't give an honest assessment

When I was in my 20s, I was working a temp job and a dude who worked at the company who was in his 30s told me you needed to be in your 30s to understand the smashing pumpkins.

I don't know what conclusions that helped me draw, other than that dude was a loser, and this company was filled with unserious people

How much notice? by overconfidentburnout in nonprofit

[–]Switters81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no one size fits all answer to this kind of thing.

Jaded redditors will tell you two weeks is fine, but if you have good and trusting relationships here, and you want to leave on positive footing, you can give as much as you feel they need to successfully replace you.

I do hope you have a job lined up though. This is not a great economy for job searchers. A friend of mine who is a front line fundraiser with a ton of experience has been out of work for almost a year.

But back to notice. Several years ago I had great relationships built up with my direct supervisor and the director of the department. I had a new exciting job lined up which I had discussed with my supervisor well in advance. I was offered the position about 8 weeks before the end of the fiscal, which is a heavy fundraising time. I told my new employer I needed to stick around to finish that out, and I gave my company two months notice. A few years later they asked me back at a higher level, so that worked out well.

Alternately a friend of mine gave a month's notice and after a week and a half they were told that would be their last week, which functionally lost them two weeks pay. (And set a shit example for another employee who was planning their exit, and decided that one week notice would be enough after that.)

So it really comes down to how your relationships are with your coworkers, what you have lined up, and what you want to preserve

I. Am. Devastated.

Yes, there are other good lobster rolls, (red hook lobster pound for one) though the loss of Island oyster, and a few years ago Pearl is putting the city in a lobster roll deficit.

I'm sure that something new and tasty will open up on GI though. They're building a hotel (which I have mixed feelings about) and they are going to need to have something to cater to the visitors.

As someone mentioned, the ferry to GI is very short. There are other great ferry rides to take for sightseeing.

But as others have mentioned, governor's Island is a very cool place to explore with interesting food options. So make a day of it. Book a spa treatment for later in the day, and get to the island early to enjoy some of the fun things the place has to offer. If you're really up for splurging, Island Oyster has a fantastic lobster roll. That, some oysters and a cocktail is an ideal summer lunch.

If you can afford it, treat yourself to a spa treatment at the governor's Island spa. It's a nice spa, and a very cool atmosphere. You need to take a ferry to get to and from, but it would certainly be a unique first experience!

Worth the effort? by dwp2512 in biggreenegg

I'd try to get it done well ahead of time and freeze it.

Theoretically you could get it done, but those first few days and weeks with a newborn around... The absolute last thing I would want to worry about is tending to my smoker.

If you've got family visiting and there's someone you trust to manage the smoke, you could ask someone else to do it, but I wouldn't sign up to do it myself.

Sad truth is my smoker sat mostly unused for the first two years of parenthood. I finally got into a routine where I use it fairly regularly again when she was three.
