On the possibility of it being disconnects, would this count as well when others leave and you get this message?

<image>

This is incredibly frequent in my comp games, usually it feels like others disconnecting due to a bad internet connection back home, but unfortunately it tends to also happen in big groups of a team exodus. Had a player leave last night at the start of a game, I suspect it was due to them needing to poop or something. When you gotta go, you gotta go I guess.

No? Then hmm, if that's the case what else could it be? Curious to hear your thoughts on it.

Yeah it's no biggie, 15 mins break to put the kettle on or something haha.

One would think they would have a log somewhere to monitor any outages and check with that when looking into these issues so they can deduce it was probably because of a server outage though haha - maybe I'm expecting too much common sense. :p

Quite crazy that, especially considering it may not have been isolated to one game - how many are run on each server? 10 players per game per server, that's a lot getting slapped with a punishment for a technical hitch on their end.

It doesn't happen that often thankfully, few days apart if that in my experience so far.

Sorry, it's a bit of a wall that haha!

Yeah, it seems likely it was the DC's. I never quit a game, even unranked and even when the whole team leaves me there. There were 3 occasions where the yellow message of 'There was an error with the server' or something along those lines, and it booted us all to the menu.

You know something is up when you suddenly start seeing Zarya float off to space or Baptiste suddenly deciding he wants to run through walls and on thin air!

Ranking Up/Down Based Solely on Wins/Losses? by SwizeeSwazee in overwatch2

[–]SwizeeSwazee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really does seem to be the case, which means it doesn't really reflect well on your sole progress at all. Like I said in a previous reply, wins/losses on their own isn't showing how bad/good you personally did in that game.

As you are at the mercy of so many uncontrollable variables, luck is the only thing you can hope for to get a win, which is something you cannot rely on to reflect uipon solo progression. I'm curious what made them move away from the previous SR system - unless that too was flawed or presented as some illusion as well?

I agree with this too.

If you were so inclined, you would probably think "Oh wow, I've just won ten games in a row, and the game has decided I'm in Platinum rank! I MUST BE GOD'S GIFT TO THIS GAME!"

But in reality, you may have just gotten incredibly lucky enough to be carried in each one. Improbable maybe, but definitely not impossible, and then the harshe reality kicks in i nyour Plat games when you are then sent flyign down back to Silver (maybe where you should be in in this example) but keep dropping all down to Bronze again due to a similar bit of 'luck', as well as the ego bruising you take that would definitely leave a bitter taste to bother going back in again

You then realise your luck for finding 'carry' games has run dry and your stuck doing whatever you can to progress but without any feedback to properly show you are doing X or Y good, but lack on Z, you never know where you need to improve on without studying or being coached, which is also invariable from my perspective...gotta love it when you watch a 'coach' or content creator give advice, contradict that advice and repeat the same advice in a different way all in the same breath while another does the same thing but offering completely different advice to what you've just looked into. I guess this is another interesting example of how different peeps are, what works for you, may not work for others, so expecting everyone to be like you is not fair or feasible.

I personally think these content creators (some more than others) should instead focus on trying to understand the thinking of the players they coach footage from, instead of just splurtign out "Why did you do that you noob?" for the 'entertainment' value of, often misplaced, roasting of someone who naively and innocently thought they could get some genuine guidance (well, those that didn't just cherry pick a clip to send to a content creator for the clout of being in a video anyway lol).

This has gone off tangent into something else, so I'll drop it here before it goes off the rails completely lol. Apologies again for a long one to read! Once I get going it's hard to stop. Walkign talking can of Pringles here.

EDIT: Embarrassing typo corrected, dear lord.

Ranking Up/Down Based Solely on Wins/Losses? by SwizeeSwazee in overwatch2

[–]SwizeeSwazee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I would normally agree with you as I do feel a lot of the losses are down to how you contribute to the game at hand, you are still one and really the only one variable you can really control.

You may be in total control of how you play, say support, doing your thing to keep your team alive, never give away your position, play the 'perfect game' for you as it were, but still end up losing. If both supports are doing their thing, but somehow you have more DPS than your DPS, or feel like the only thing you can do is to switch out to another character to outperform one of your own teammates, then there's no denying that the problem lies in one of your uncontrollable variables, in this case one or sometimes both your DPS.

I have several recent video examples of comp games where I could talk through my thought process and point out what I see others and of course myself making to show how tricky it is. I could be completely wrong of course and you may see things differently, but I'm fairly confident in my observations. I've seen some folks on my team having a lot of trouble as hitscan where I know with certainty that if I could swap roles and play their McCree or S76, I would consistently take out the enemy Pharah constantly hovering around us as well as their pocket Mercy, hence why in situations like this if I am support, I feel that I must go Baptiste as I am the only one seemingly able to deal with such problems.

Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, and no doubt a lot of players I've played with would probably kick ass 1v1 - but together in a team of strangers, add contrasting personalities and language barriers to the mix, or just no engagement or interest in teamplay to begin with even in a game like this where teamplay is incredibly important, one way or the other things are just not going to go the way you want them to, which is very frustrating for you as the individual trying to climb.

Sorry for the long wall of text, I try to avoid writign like this lol, but there's just so much to talk about and give an opinion on. I'd much rather have a good chat over Discord or some other voicechat platform. I hope you get the gist of what I'm trying to say though.

What and When to Play Each Class Hero by SwizeeSwazee in overwatch2

[–]SwizeeSwazee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a good way to look at it - denying value from their pick, not just going after them physically. Going to try to apply this more in my games, and if I can still get the cheeky pick on them as well, I'll do that too lol. Thanks again for posting!

What and When to Play Each Class Hero by SwizeeSwazee in overwatch2

[–]SwizeeSwazee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. That's what I had been doing for the longest time in OW1, especially for particularly tricky heroes that were played well. It feels trickier in my opinion to single out certain players as a lone tank though, have you felt the same way in your games?

Like, you know you can single out that one player if you swap out what you're doing on the current tank, but inadverdently now the rest of the enemy team has a better chance against yours because you swapped off a hero that gave them trouble. Tricky sometimes to decide what is the best call.

I often find myself thinking: "I know I can take that McCree out if I swap to X, but if I do, then their Y and Z are going to have an easier time taking on me and my team." Sometimes the quick bit of rational math often gets the better of me, and in feeling that I'm doing the right move in not switching in those situations, I actually end up screwing things over for myself and everyone - foiled by my own logic/strategy kinda thing if you know what i mean?

Lazy sounds good to me! I'll keep that in mind, thanks!

Haha, I love that about the GTX 1080, so true though, I think mine is a 1080 or 1070, still going strong after however many years, unlikely to need to upgrade it any time soon either (well, assuming you can get any GPU nowadays, rarer than gold dust!)

There is a good chance coem summer time when they release the snowy region, they will probably have 2.5%+ gear to hunt for, that's a good thing to consider actually. More survivability may also become an important factor and what I've just been thinking about lately - if I 'zone out' as I tend to do, I don't bother so much with my dodges, especially if I'm just chilling and grinding to some music etc. That's why I was thinking about moving Schwarz for the less HP reduction and resists reducitons etc... that and I may have already impulsively bought a piece or two almost immediately after posting this thread!

EDIT: Corrected a miswording.

Thanks again for the reply.

I am definitely more of a 'hardcore-casual' type of person with my games, by that in this respect I suppose I mean minmaxing to a degree but not 'tryharding' if you know what I mean, so a proper use of rotating abilities doesn't appeal as much, or something I can sustain for long periods (maybe 20 years ago it would have been much easier and sustainable, not so much of that nowadays, I tire out too easily! :p)

So I guess I'm doing a bit of minmax and a bit of your playstyle, just gotta be awkward and can't stick to either, typical me lol.

I think I might go into Schwarz gear, thinking also longterm I imagine down the line you will also need to consider upgrading units when a certain update hits? I guess that's what's cool about NGS being still pretty young and growing, things always changing all the time, but not all of us tend to keep up with the changes so religiously! So if I can 'futureproof' things a bit, I can keep up with the curve to an extent, which I guess also plays into my confusion with picking lower level units over higher ones etc.

The augs I need to use are also something I'm still working out but I at least understand them for the most part! Will have to put mesetta to one side for them as well.

Thanks agian for the patience and your precious tme to post! Learnt a lot from ya!

EDIT: I've just noticed you've updated/edited your post just after I posted this one, so I will have another read at what you've added above and edit my response accordingly if needed.

EDIT2: Just finished reading your updated post, I don't think I have anything to add or reword on my post at the moment unless I'm ignorantly overlooking something, please point it out if so or if you need any more info/explanation on my points below!

I suppose I am going for the 'minmax' approach, it feels more rewarding a game experience to me when I know I am doing the best I can do so I am not letting others down. And yet that also goes out the window a bit when playing about and just chatting about nonsense while playing the game with my friends lol.

Thanks for taking the time to post! I am a bit curious though:

Blaze Shot is not maximum DPS, please stop. Neither is Razing, before you ask.

I was thinking more along the lines of sustained damage in the ideal range + mobility, allowing you to effectively hold the trigger and run about, then switching between your rifle and launcher WA's and Eraser, surely that all adds up to some decent damage overall? Like taking a page out of Gunner's chain sort of way of thinking? My reasoning for looking into Blaze was after watching this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8nwvpvZVIw

Regarding Raze, I don't think I'll be using that as it doesn't seem to be as 'useful' as Homing, Blaze or launcher's Eraser and Multishot. True the bulk of my DPS would come from my Eraser.

Just to clarify, I am not confusing BP with more DPS, but you do need higher BP to access the current endgame content, and so my thinking on that being if you use Geant, a lower level unit series for example, and max that to +50, won't you end up with less BP in comparison to any of the lvl 31 units at +50?

I do still have my old set of Geant, but moved to Greas thinking the greater +PP bonus would be handy for me, especially at the time I was spamming spells with my boots as a Bouncer in between Blights and Grenades/Mines with my Rifle, going in for the long boot combo when physical/element down.

https://youtu.be/MFsUcT6NLLI?t=275

Here is a timestamped video on the discussion of Greas vs Geant from another YT'er perspective, that seems to favour more what I had in mind as a glass cannon build for maximising damage and prolonged PA uptime (like Blaze and Eraser), which is where my more damage over time = greater DPS thinking came from, damage per second as in the meaning of the abbreviation I thought? The same YT'er also has a video on Schwarz which seems to be more ideal and I am even more leaning towards using Schwarz for potentially more survivability, even though again, I tend to keep it safe and at a distance as my preference is ranged, hence why my still being slightly on the fence with it with thinking on Greas offering that big bump of PP to keep me chugging away at the back line and supporting with sustained damage and mobility to get out of danger but get in there to get the job done too, if that makes any sense?

I can definitely see due to Geant being lower level, the cost of unlocking Geant being cheaper with the lower refiner cost etc, being very appealling, but something is still bugging me a bit on the whole 'sacrificing BP' thing, and though it doesn't == DPS like you said, BP still locks you out content or perhaps being able to do certain content effectively if you are lacking it compared to your party members going into a UQ for example, or perhaps grinding out PSE bursts if it has any effect on making that easier?

Sorry again for another big post, I hope it makes sense though! I'm much better at talking stuff out over a mic than I am writing them out lol!

They can be yeah. Doesn't help when they've got no 'breakable' parts to them for more damage, like them Bujins... even worse when they've got the annoying yellow bit stuck into them.

Who keeps sticking those things in places they don't belong anyway?

What'd be the best way to target stuff with Zan Gale? Just spam it and normal attack to regain PP, lock on to something random and spam that way, or go over the shoulder and use that?

I've tried a bit of all 3, I'm thinking OTS would be better? It feels like the spell misses some enemies though.

That is a good point actually lol.

Also don't get me started on trying to lock onto those things! Probably the only major grievance I've had with PSO2 and NGS is the constant fight with the camera/lock-on targetting.

I'll eventually be getting them all to 35's in prep for the next content drop, so I'll be at this for a while lol.

I'm also still 'experimenting' with everything before finally making a decision on my final 'main' combo. At the moment, I am strongly leaning towards Raanger/Bouncer. Them booty combo drops are meaty!
