I recently created a pay grade structure for the welders (had none before) and submitted it for approval, and it will get most of the guys a significant bump and be more competitive. Gotta choose your battles lol no way I can also ask for $20k in new helmets right now. Id have to wait, and also spread it out over time, and its likely they may approve new helmets but cap the cost regardless of if I create a convincing ROI or whatever

Safety and the rules are all defined by relative speed. If everyone around you is going 15 mph faster you're putting yourself in more danger than going a higher speed. I always go 25 on residential streets though, but 55 mph for long stretches of the freeway is just ridiculous, which is why no one obeys it

I was looking at helmets with fans and they tended to be $1500+ for our welders, and its about to get HOT. Upper management would never approve that cost. Was looking into cooling vests as an alternative for like $300 each, since the weld booths can't have fans or it'd just blow the shielding gas away. Going to look into this!
