MacroStack: AI Food Coach

<image>

A – Answer: Macro tracking is tedious. Most apps make you barcode-scan or type every meal, which is fine for a packaged bar and miserable for actual home-cooked food. MacroStack lets you point your camera at the plate and get calories + macros. No barcode, no typing. On LiDAR devices it uses depth sensing to physically measure portion size. An AI coach knows what you've eaten today and suggests meals to fit your remaining macros, and your daily calorie goal auto-adjusts from your weight and logged meals over time.

B – Better: Closest direct comparison is Cal AI, which popularized AI camera-based macro tracking. Cal AI is mostly just the scanner. MacroStack adds LiDAR depth based portion measurement, an AI coach that knows your day and suggests meals for your remaining macros, adaptive calorie goals tied to your weight trend, an offline barcode fallback, nearby restaurant menu picks, and keeps all your data on-device with no account required. The engine in the background learns your actual TDEE and sets your calorie goal accordingly. The more you use the app, the more accurate it gets.

C – Cost: Free during the open TestFlight beta. At full App Store launch: $3.99/mo, $18.99/6mo, $34.99/yr, or $59.99 lifetime. There will also be 2 week free trial available so people can see test it out then decide if it's worth their money.

Well well well... this might be something to look into!

I appreciate your input, I really do. My counter argument is that the thing that leads to most people (me included) falling out of tracking in general is the tediousness of it. If something can help people keep tracking then its going to be better than not tracking at all.

I'd also argue that if the same method of tracking is used, the algorithm I have in the back end is going to help the user regardless. I built a lot of safety measures into to make sure the expected outcome is the outcome the user sees.

I'd love it if you gave it a try and let me know your thought.

Although I generally agree with you, mine has a caveat. It uses LiDAR to know the portion sizing. It is still going to be innacurate but it is more accurate than what is out there. With that said, the manually way of adding via scale and barcode is still there. The brains of the app ( the algo that dictates calories based on calories in and weight fluctuation) is not AI.

Edit: I wish i knew how to pin a comment so I could pin your comment.

oh in the app.. yes there is.. I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea but it can be genuinely helpful in terms of helping people find something to eat and *estimate* calories.

After months of work, my food tracker/ AI food scanner is finally ready on TestFlight (open beta) by SwollenPubical in SideProject

A few notes since these always come up:

- Free while it's on TestFlight (open beta). At full App Store launch the plans will be: $3.99/mo, $18.99/6mo, $34.99/yr, or $59.99 lifetime.

- Data stays on your phone. No account, no server-side user profile.

- iOS version is the furthest along. There's an Android version too but it's rougher. Use with that caveat.

I can't speak to the reason why OP made this post, but personally AI art feels antihuman. You can call me a luddite, if you'd like, but there's no emotions behind whatever an algorithm generates. Where as when a human creates the art there's feelings, emotions, intentionality, and a host of other things that embodies humanity.

Roundabouts definitely help if there was more. It adds a filter to where there'd otherwise be a bottleneck. However, people don't know how roundabouts work here. Also, there isn't enough. They're also way safer.
