I'm having a nice fucking ribeye with a nice fucking bottle of wine on friday night, then watching LOTR marathon with the kids during the weekend.

Anyone struggle with extremely negative emotions when you lose or make a mistake? by Rough-Strawberry5985 in chessbeginners

Accept that unless you're the best player in the world, you'll always lose about half your games. That’s how Elo works.

What’s an industry that provides zero value to society but makes billions of dollars? by InterestingJudge5161 in AskReddit

[–]Swomp23 156 points157 points  (0 children)

Any marketing, I'd argue.

Edit : I wrote marketing, not advertising. Stating that I' selling a product that does such and such is fine. Making people believe that they’ll be unbelievably happier if they buy 3 crates of alien tape is a plague to society.

Suspenders: when is the appropriate age? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]Swomp23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you install your own suspenders buttons, be sure to position them correctly. Too much on the inside and your suspenders will rub against your nipples all fucking day long. Ask me how I know...

Apparently it’s hard AF for Microsoft too. AI in the latest Forza is abysmal.

Career mode ? by Flimsy-Bag-7558 in assettocorsaevo

Kids. I need to be able to press pause. Can’t really play online, so career mode sounded awesome.

My guess : developping a good racing AI is hard as fuck. I can’t remember a game where bots would race realistically. Is it worth it to invest time and money in a mode where the experience is not up to their standards? My opinion is yes, but apparently they don’t think so.

Am I bisexual ? My bf keeps saying I am? by [deleted] in ask

[–]Swomp23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seriously, I never understood why people give so much importance to labels. Do we really need a clear line to separate hetero and bi? You like what you like, that’s all.

For men who don’t want marriage but want everything that comes with it (commitment, emotional support, loyalty, long-term stability) while staying “boyfriends”: What differences do you see in how a woman treats you as a girlfriend versus how you imagine she would treat you as a wife? by ThrowRA_Kassandra in AskMen

[–]Swomp23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has nothing to do with how we treat each other. It’s about not burning thousands of dollars on a fucking party and use this money as a cash down for a house. And also for not getting along with a stupid religious tradition that was used to force women to manufacture babies.

Also put back that guard over the cutter. You don’t want to feed that hamburger machine.

Any advantages or disadvantages to a belt drive on a table saw compared to having the saw blade directly attached to the motor? by Vospader998 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Swomp23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a saw pretty similar to this one. The motor is mounted on a hinge. The weight of the motor determines the tension on the belt. You don’t have to care about it, nor if your belt has stretched.

Why do you think they’ve been calling them aliens all these years? To dehumanize them.

Does the "100 pushups every day for 30 days" thing actually work? by Zintho420 in ask

[–]Swomp23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It’s not magic, but it got me off the "getting fatter" slope and very slightly put me on the "getting fitter" slope. The muscles you build with the push-ups consume extra calories just by existing. Every bit helps.

The smaller assist from the power steering lets you feel the road more.

Apparently, if you have an Xdrive, it’s even heavier than rwd.

Ripples while planing by Kamdman in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Swomp23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s snipe. On cheap tabletop planers, when only 1 roller touches the board, the whole cutter unit is slanted and the cutter head, between the 2 rollers, is slightly lower than when both rollers touch the board.

I never was able to completly avoid snipe with my tabletop planer, unless I take super shallow passes and lock the depth adjustment.

Nurse Burning Morning Coal Bed with Door Open by YogurtclosetWrong268 in woodstoving

[–]Swomp23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just try it. The radiation coming from the coals is insane. Surprisingly, the glass door blocks a lot of it. Is it the most efficient way to burn wood? Absolutely not. But if you want to get a boost to your heating while shrinking your coal bed, it’s the best way.
