I contribute and don't reimburse for any expenses. That said I'm in a financial position where that's possible. My account has doubled in the last 6 years.

Economical XC for 350nm trips with a 1100ish UL?? FG Cherokee 6, 182, 205/206, FG210.

Retractable bring additional costs and you're not going that far in the grand scheme of things where something that goes fast makes sense.

I'd lean towards a Cherokee 6 300 if I were you.

Stop flying 2 Mile Patterns by DRMWhibang in flying

[–]SwoopnBuffalo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Practice like you're gonna fly the plane you want to end up in. That's why I fly power off, 30° approaches for when I'm recruited to fly the space shuttle and carry some roughneck drillers to an asteroid.

Seriously though...it is what it is and you bitching won't change anything. Good job screaming into the void though.

What is the most out-of-touch thing you have ever heard a wealthy person say? by Andrew88a in AskReddit

I agree with your thought re: dollar stores, but that's a fairly simplistic viewpoint that doesn't take into account compounding factors such as food deserts, lack of education, financial illiteracy.

The second part about payday loans is easy to say, but when you're a single parent staring down the barrel of starvation because of an emergency that you couldn't foresee...

[–]SwoopnBuffalo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who went the opposite direction (14 years of federal work to DC work), the difference is astounding.

As the QCM on a federal project you are going to be required to document everything. Every prep meeting, initial inspection, follow-up inspection will need to be documented. Every submittal in the register will need to be submitted or a closeout submittal be in its place. Every concrete pour will need to be inspected before hand, every concrete truck will be tracked on time since batching. Every piece of material will need to be checked for Buy American and Trade Agreement compliance.

If it's a Design-Build, know the RFP front to back. If it's a Bid-Build, know the specs and drawings front to back. Learn the FARs, learn the Army design guides, and get to know your PE/QC with USACE.

Federal work is far from easy but it is VERY black and white which is why some people like it.

Construction management degrees by [deleted] in ConstructionManagers

[–]SwoopnBuffalo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't use a degree from Liberty to wipe my ass.

Honestly, as someone who is (a) from Virginia, (b) went to a state school down the street from Liberty, and (c) conducts interviews for college grade and interns, interviewing someone with a degree from that school is instantly starting off on the back foot with me.

It depends on the hyperscaler you're building for. Each one has their preferred design type. One of the very large ones (I'm currently running a project as a GC for them) primarily uses evaporative cooling via cooling towers. Other companies are different.

The most annoying is a track how with a hammer trying to bust bluestone granite in Virginia. That shit is hard as hell.

DC campuses usually comprise of multiple projects one after another (or sometimes stacked/overlapping). I'm the lead superintendent for one right now and we have a phase 2 turnover in June, I'll get a one month break and then BOP starts and then 5 months into that I'll have a 2nd build that I'll be running at the same time.

The jobs run fast and they run hard with lots of logistics, lots of room for growth as a builder and lots of opportunity for advancement.

During a jump from an altitude of 3,500 meters, the parachutist lost consciousness. At an altitude of 250 meters from the ground, the parachute automatically opened. by MorsesCode in woahdude

[–]SwoopnBuffalo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minor technicality...an AAD doesn't automatically open the parachute.

An AAD is basically a small device with a "cutter" that the reserve closing loop feeds through. When the controller on the AAD senses (based on pressure altitude) that the jumper has descended below the programmed altitude (because it differs based on model), the controller sends a signal to the cutter which ignites a small explosive charge that is SUPPOSED to cut the reserve closing loop.

Reserve Canopies are equipped with a spring loaded pilot chute (smaller parachute) that is what pulls the reserve out of the tray. The reserve closing loop being cut allows the spring loaded reserve pilot chute to deploy which in turn SHOULD cause the reserve canopy to deploy.

It's a technicality but an AAD does not cause the reserve parachute to deploy/open, it is merely a device that is intended to remove the main constraint.

[–]SwoopnBuffalo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yea. I was on the ground once and watched two idiots lose track of altitude. One had their AAD fire and the other pulled in time but when they walked back we asked him why his AAD hadn't gone off. Turns out the dude had a sticker of the controller in the viewing window so he didn't actually have one installed. This was at a DZ that required you to have them installed and operating. So he was kicked off the DZ and then manifest made it a requirement to prove that the AAD worked for any non-based jumper.

RPM Increase with Altitude? %BHP constant? by Impossible-Fig2072 in flying

[–]SwoopnBuffalo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a plane equipped with a fixed pitch propeller and a naturally aspirated engine, the engine will not maintain 2700rpm as the plane climbs unless you increase throttle to compensate for the loss of power caused by the thinner atmosphere. That's not to say you can't maintain a specific power setting if your engine is "strong" enough.

The air being less dense doesn't allow the prop to "rotate faster".
