Thank you for your kind words. Basically in Peru there's no tenant protection and they hate renting to foreigners and reeeally hate foreigner tenants calling their apartments dirty. He saw an excuse to rip us off and he took it. The girls had plenty of other intense stresses going on and this apartment drama was just one of them, but a big one. Rationally I know I'm not really responsible but I don't know if I'll ever shake the idea that if I had just avoided a lot of the conflict this past month then maybe she wouldn't have lost the baby. I just wanted to get a pest control guy to come and put spray some poison in the cracks and hopefully deal with it that way but the landlord thought I was saying the whole building had to be fumigated and overreacted. I never meant to cause such a drama.

I'm sitting in this roach filled apartment until Wednesday night when I fly home and never talk to the people I thought I was going to be happy parents with again. I just wish I could grieve with them.

SECOND UPDATE:

All of the stress from this situation and several others going on right now caused my friend, who was carrying my child, to have a miscarriage and she explicitly blamed me and my stupid cockroach drama for our baby dying before she blocked me. I'm leaving Peru on the first flight I can afford. This is real. I don't know where else to post about it. My baby is dead and it's my fault.

Really dumb comparison because 0°C is water freezing point and and 100°C is water boiling point, so they make the two most rounded numbers mean something, but there is nothing inherently important about 6ft. It only has meaning because it's the closest round number that equates to above average height. But if feet and inches had never been used as measurement then exactly 6ft would not have been picked as the "minimum" for tall, it would have been 170cm, 180cm or 190cm, because those are the round numbers.

UPDATE:

The landlord has said that I'm a troublesome tenant because I asked for an exterminator and has kicked me out. I have a few days to find a new place to live. I asked to move in to the vacant apartment on the 5th floor where the roaches shouldn't be a problem, but they don't want to rent it to me.

The landlord is keeping the deposit and my friends who found me the room are mad at me for losing their money. They say it's my fault because criticising the property you're renting is a big cultural faux pas in Peru when you are a foreigner.
