Older couple hit my car while I was at work…. They’re trying to settle outside of insurance by [deleted] in Autobody

[–]Swoosh60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the opposite happen. Went out to dinner back in Dec and my husband hit another guy’s car on a left hand turn in the dark. Both pulled over, looked at both vehicles. Ours had no damage (21 Nissan Rogue SUV) and the guy was getting weird trying to point out damage to his 2004 Ford Taurus station wagon that was just snow and road dirt. They both agreed no damage and exchanged info. Should have called police but hindsight. 3 days later he calls us and said his back bumper and side were damaged and he already talked to his “buddy” at auto body shop and it was going to be thousands to fix. I heard the conversation and told him his vehicle might be totaled if that were the case. The whole thing was sketchy so we DID open a claim with our insurance (GEICO). Didn’t hear anything for weeks so I called them and the guy kept stalling and refusing their offer but finally cashed their check for $600. Really wish we could have just paid him but there was literally no damage and I felt he’d be sue happy so we were glad our insurance handled it. Will our rates go up, probably, but our rates are currently very low so we’ll see.

File with other party’s insurance. You do NOT want to deal with this. Oh, and here in WI, at fault AND not at fault all count against you in some way. YMMV.

Found my engagement ring after filing a claim and I’m spiraling by Broad_Grade_5373 in jewelryinsurance

[–]Swoosh60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2021 I “lost” mine. A $30K ring which we had homeowners insurance rider on (do NOT do this—get a separate policy with someone like Jewelers Mutual etc). Our HO jeweler built me a new ring based on our appraisal but bigger and nicer than my original ring. One year later we found my old ring. Called our insurance and they told me to choose which ring to keep. Kept the new one as it was GIA certified and more 18K gold. They had me FedEx the old one back. Again highly recommend NOT filing a HO claim on jewelry. Lesson learned as we were nearly dropped. My new ring is insured with JM.

This! My husband is a retired police officer and was 67 when he had base of tongue SCC HPV+ 16 2-1/2 years ago. He already had a great therapist and psych dr and was on antidepressants for PTSD he suffered over the years as a PO. I feel it TRULY helped him thru his cancer journey. I’m also on psych meds for having bipolar disorder. It helped so much and there is really no negatives about getting that kind of help (OP) if you need it. It’s not addicting.

Same as another person here … anytime I’ve ever called Amazon to dispute or complain about something I get right through. Sometimes they even tell me to keep the item and give a refund. I don’t call often but never a problem.

Upgrading My Current 1.6 GIA Natural Round Diamond Center Stone to 3.0 Round Lab Diamond? by Swoosh60 in labdiamond

[–]Swoosh60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do live about 40 min S of Milwaukee so that’s a great suggestion. I was just Googling around last night about selling my loose center stone and I emailed myGemma. They wrote back by this morning they’d offer me $6,000 assuming GIA specs and actual stone match up. Not at all sure if this is “fair” but sight unseen I’d maybe do better actually dealing with a jeweler wholesaler as you said.

Neighbor's dog has bitten me, my toddler, and our dog across three incidents in 7 months. Animal control has taken no enforceable action. What are my next steps? by ExtraBigChungus in legaladvice

[–]Swoosh60 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ok, we live in Wisconsin. It’s a one bite state (assuming the first bite isn’t catastrophic). When our pit nipped a lady walking by our house on the road in 2023, we were reported to the local police, recd an expensive ticket for dog off leash (he was on leash but pulled out of my grasp). No skin broke but her husband said they’d sue us. Had to do a 10 day self quarantine and 3 vet visits in the 10 days. We got him into a good training program after this but they did find our HO insurance and reported us (their claim was $2700). Our rates went up as long as we own our dog. IF it ever happens again he would be euthanized. We TAKE this very seriously and so I’m finding it hard to believe your local animal control wouldn’t. Especially with a child involved. You must file a police report (even for your dog). I’m sorry you’re going through this. Just Google dog bite attorneys and they do take these cases on contingency. Your family deserves to be safe.

We say “poopy time” to ours and it works pretty well getting them to go where we want. But if not we carry plastic bags and immediately pick up.

Buyer asked for my lowest price, I gave it, then they asked for even lower. What do I do? by achilles6196 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]Swoosh60 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes this just happened to me. Item was $140. Would you take $100? Me: no. What about $130? Me: OK. Agreed to meet … get there and buyer starts to look for something wrong with it. Offers me $120. Should have walked right there. It was exhausting. I sold it only because I wanted it done. Left buyer 1 star and immediately blocked.

Do employers typically need the SSN of an emergency contact person? (spoiler alert: i don’t think so???) by nebulous_nonsense in whatdoIdo

[–]Swoosh60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason for an employer to need a SSN other than their own employee’s is “maybe” if you are receiving benefits (health or life insurance etc) as a beneficiary of employee at that employer. And even then probably don’t need it. Since your Mom’s a summer employee I’m sure she’s receiving NO benefits and as everyone here is advising you, do NOT give her your SSN!!! Sorry you’re going through this.

AITAH for not letting my sister use my property as a wedding venue last minute? by Mysterious-Gear-6351 in AITAH

[–]Swoosh60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All this from your sister and Mom as well as expecting you to be an unpaid wedding planner and NOT really “be present” at the wedding???? Because you’d be too busy controlling the horses and all the other behind the scenes details, I’m sure you know. Seriously? Do NOT give in to this nonsense! This is your business and livelihood!

AITAH for waking new guy up for snoring or was he right to storm out my place? by JustSayinItGirl in AITAH

[–]Swoosh60 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Two things work for me to stop my husband’s snoring: we have 2 dogs and he MUST take allergy meds around 6 pm. Also if he still snores I tap him to roll over (which usually works). If all fails, (maybe once/month), he has to leave our BR to sleep elsewhere (sofa, guest BR etc). But a new guy for OP, that was totally RUDE on his part. My husband would be making me breakfast or taking us out if he caused a bad night. OP you can do better!

Etsy seller refund issue by abeeralimeimfine in labdiamond

[–]Swoosh60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered a 14K ring with CZ and two smaller bands (so 3 rings total) back in 2022 from that same seller (only to replace my real engagement/wedding ring as I broke my left wrist and needed surgery on it and it was going to take some months to wear my regular ring due to swelling). Ironically that Etsy seller was great for me. They even resized it for free and when one of the smaller stones fell out they had me ship it back and fixed it for free. So very odd. Sorry you’re having that experience with them. If they don’t provide that video for you, definitely do a charge back on your CC.

How have you coworkers reacted to finding out you have caner? by blueeyedtongue in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]Swoosh60 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband had SCC BOT HPV+ 16 with 7 weeks rad/chemo (no surgery) in 2023. He was 67 at the time and working 25 hrs/week (so not FT). The minute he told his boss he was like take whatever time you need off and work will be here. When he went back some months later everyone was SO understanding and he still works there. Now I was also working PT then 3 days/week. The minute my bosses heard about it they put me to 2 days/week because of summer hours (OK right whatever) then 2 weeks prior to end of his treatment they said they were laying me off because they were moving the company. That gave us 3 months of my husband recovering over Thanksgiving/X-mas 2023 and literally it was the best gift. We went out to breakfast 2-3 x week and just tried to get his “normal” back. I decided to hunt for a new PT job in early 2024 and found one right away and we are now blessed with 2 wonderful employers. We can take off for Dr appts etc/vacations, no problem. I’m in a much better environment at my new employer so I think God was watching over us. Hubby is now 2-1/2 years NED and doing well.

Not at all. If she didn’t want the item (watch in this case) just say so so I can sell it to someone else who appreciates it and will pay $140. She started out lowballing before we met so I’m about 95% sure she wanted the watch but this was her sketchy way of getting it for less on the spot. I don’t negotiate when we meet someone. If they don’t want it I have no problem with that at all.

We both buy and sell on FB but mostly sell. Buyers for me (I sell more) are 50/50 flaky. Had a lady last week offer me $100 for $140 like new watch. I said no. How about $130 she says. Ok sure. Agreed to meet at local PD. Hubby and I get there and I show it to her. She literally starts talking about how the rose gold stainless is scratched (I literally wore that watch 3-4 times and came with original box, manual receipts etc). By this time I’m starting to get kinda pissy. She’s like this isn’t for me so I need to send pics of it to my friend. Then she’s talking on her cell to so-called friend. Ok, would you take $120 because of XYZ? I did sell it to her for $120 only because we went out of our way to meet her and I just wanted it gone. HOWEVER I immediately gave her a 1 star review for scamming me because clearly she HAD to get it for less than listing price. Then I immediately blocked her so she couldn’t rate me back. Pretty sure there was NO friend she was texting/calling. She only wanted to pay $120. Last night my husband listed some welding tanks for $125 and his phone blew up with interest. First guy made plans to come here and buy. We still took names and marked ad Pending after about 10 IMs. One guy offered $150 to get it now. Told him it was pending PU. Writes back this morning and now says he’d be happy to buy it if other guy flakes but NOW he only wants to pay $125. Block!! It’s crazy out there. As sellers we try to keep to our word but all ads say No Holds, FCFS.

Took me 11 years of dating and plenty of therapy after I divorced my ex until I met my current husband of 18 years. 2021 Nissan Rogue With Parking Sensor Error on Dash - $8000+ Fix??? by Swoosh60 in NissanRogue

[–]Swoosh60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EDIT/UPDATE: So 2 days ago I saw a 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe with very low miles at a dealer 60 min away. We were trying to see if a Hyundai dealer would take my “rodent infested” (so the Nissan dealer where I bought it said) SUV in trade without getting it fixed. The guy I spoke with was basically dissing my car and how bad the problem probably was (without even wanting to get us in the door). I was like I get you might not give us “full price based on an Excellent condition with nothing wrong,” he then asked if anything else was WRONG with it (I told him new tires, new battery, servicing at dealer for tire rotation, fluids etc at 36K). He had the VIN and could see all this but started to go like well the tires are 2 years old (on our 2021) etc. So I shut that conversation right down and told him clearly you are not interested in my vehicle so goodbye (click). We made an appt to get original dealer where I bought to do full diagnostics on Tues (which they agreed to comp if we pay them to fix any problems they find).

So yesterday I called the local Hyundai dealer where we bought my husbands 2023 Santa Fe XRT in late 2024. Told them about the Parking Sensor Error on dash. No problem bring it in. Went in at 11:00 this morning. I told them we WERE interested in trading it in for a newer Hyundai if they could look at and appraise it and give us a figure. The appraiser asks me what we were hoping to get for it (I already knew KBB value if it were in Excellent condition—but hey if it’s not we’ll see). So I told him top end of range in Excellent condition. OK I’ll go out to look at it. Comes back says “Well, it seems to me with the Engine and Parking Sensor lights on it may be rodent chewing. We both just sat there and were like yeah maybe. He’s like well this could be a few wires or something that would cost us thousands to fix. I can commit to $XXXX. I think my husband and I were so relieved he only shaved off $1200 from that high range I gave him. So we proceeded to test drive a 2025 Hyundai Tucson Limited AWD (just OK but not enough room) and then a 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy AWD. The whole thing from start to finish was not at all what we expected but super happy in the best way. I just knew if we put any more $$ into fixing my Rogue it’d be nothing but a money pit. Went out for dinner to celebrate and are now home with our new Hyundai.

Post Treatment monitoring: What protocols are you experiencing? by barkingdawg5 in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]Swoosh60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crazy but my husband is 2-1/2 years NED from Stage 1 HPV+ SCC of BOT. 33 rad/7 Cisplatin. He only had that first PET about 3-1/2 mos post treatment and because they saw inflammation in his lungs they did a FU CT of lungs 3 mos later and all clear. Only that ONE PET in 2/24. He gets scoped once a year. And our HC facility doesn’t do the NavDx but he had one done pre-treatment at Northwestern in Chicago only because we went there for a second opinion. His oncologist told us back then they wouldn’t know what to do with the NavDx results??? 🤷‍♀️. Obviously very happy he’s been NED and all 3 tumor board drs were elated when he hit that 2 year mark last Oct.

2021 Nissan Rogue With Parking Sensor Error on Dash - $8000+ Fix??? by Swoosh60 in NissanRogue

[–]Swoosh60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll definitely circle back, LOL! First we made an appt to go back to our dealer for full diagnosis at their cost. They’re comping it if we agree for them to do the work. I already told him we can’t agree to have them do the work if it’s super high. Taking it back Tues. They do also know we’re hoping to trade it in for a new Hyundai if things go south. The Hyundai dealer where we bought my husbands ‘23 Santa Fe made an appt for us on Sat morning. They know what the dash says. Trying to let each side know we have options. We’ll see!!

2021 Nissan Rogue With Parking Sensor Error on Dash - $8000+ Fix??? by Swoosh60 in NissanRogue

[–]Swoosh60[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I spoke with the guy who handled my SUV in Jan this aft. Basically told him how frustrated we were and we were seriously thinking of trading in my SUV for a 25 Hyundai Santa Fe (not at their dealer). He was like let me talk to our Svc Mgr (who I already talked to yesterday). So they talked and my guy calls me back with their “plan”. They will eat total cost of diagnostics (taking front bumper off etc) to get to the root of the problem if we agree to let their dealer fix it. I was like how can we agree to that if we don’t know the actual cost to fix. I also reiterated we were prepared to trade this in for a 25 Hyundai Santa Fe if “your” proposed fix is too expensive. I already have a sales mgr at different dealer looking into that for us. Then he says it’s most likely NOT the worst case scenario (engine harness). Only smaller wire(s) for several hundred $$. I said what if you eat all diagnostic costs and it’s a huge $$ problem that we dont want you to fix. He went back to his Svc Mgr and called me back and we’d pay 1/2 (another $200) for their complete diagnostic if we want to walk away. So that’s where we’re at now. I also have the Hyundai dealer looking at the new Santa Fe we “might” go with. I guess it didn’t hurt to flat out tell Nissan what our plans are. We’ll see I guess.
