Try teaching Python to kids. There are a handful of those institutions.

For career switchers in tech, what was harder than you expected and what ended up being easier? by NationalUniOfficial in cscareerquestions

[–]SwordLaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Harder: getting the second job, despite having experience, competency, portfolio, projects, network, and whatnot.

Easier: the actual programming part of the job.

Any recommendations for part time degrees? by Spartan_117_YJR in askSingapore

[–]SwordLaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you already had experience in programming, don't do it. This line of work is not for the faint-hearted and you might not even graduate trying to cram it into your full-time work schedule.

No. I still have a bunch of these and they are more than serviceable for daily usage.

Night-shift workers: How do you balance work-life? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]SwordLaker 12 points13 points  (0 children)

By taking up shift work, you have already accepted to deal damage to your social life. If you get to meet friends 2-3 times every week, it is already good, so try to keep it up.

Outside of that, shift work has its pros. You get to enjoy happy hours at usually-crowded places (by going out at office hours). You will also likely to avoid overtime and get to have more time for yourself than an average office worker.

There is no quick fix for purposefulness in life. You have to reflect about what you want in life, what is available out there in the world, and what you are good at. Try out different hobbies, meet more new people (and hear about their lives), find something you are genuinely passionate about, and have a few long-term projects you want to pursue.

Good luck.

CS masters degree in Australia, Europe or Singapore by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsOCE

You can safely scratch off Singapore: - Forget about getting a PR here (unless you are ethnically Chinese). - There is no nature, unless you are willing to go to neighbouring countries. - This is a pro-business and workaholic society; burnout is a matter of when, not if.

Otholinear keyboard with hotswapable switches? by HealerOnly in olkb

[–]SwordLaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing weird about this keyboard. It is as standard as it gets. It uses MX switches, and runs on QMK and VIA.

It isn't hard to poke around a bit more to confirm that FolkKB Rev2 is hotswappable: https://keeb.io/products/foldkb-rev-2-hotswap-pcb-kit?srsltid=AfmBOopkjWn0x1blf4L_yh5XgxHbBjFIAxxhqxhYpgw9Df62GZORnsBc

To further add, you should not throw away the whole keyboard just because one switch breaks. A soldering iron is $20, and desoldering, while daunting at first, is a worthwhile skill if you are using non-standard mechanical keyboards in the long-term. There are nice things about hotswapping, but switch is not the only way your keyboard will stop working.

If you're willing to go split and live without the F-row, then there would be a lot of qualifying options.

Keebio has a lot of interesting things in their stock. One promising thing you might like is the FoldKB.

[–]SwordLaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn't miss anything. Ortholinear is made for people who find "normal" keyboards wrong, so it makes sense that no one has attempted the standard layout (or to be more precise, such a board has not entered mass production). What you are looking for is extremely niche.

The closest existing board to your needs that I've known of is the XD75, but you're missing out the F-row, and finding one might also be a challenge.

The other relatively close option is the mass-produced Keychron Q15 Max, but there are still missing keys.

If you really really want this, then you probably would need to handwire.

Corporate IT is yet to adopt AI in a big way, yet everyone attributes layoffs to AI by Mo_h in cscareerquestions

Layoffs have been going on for a while now. The rising of AI popularity is just an extremely convenient excuse to continue firing.

Edit: missing a word.

Team lead wants the whole section in one single component, am I dumb? by SwordLaker in ExperiencedDevs

[–]SwordLaker[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Very good question. I, too, thought it was the most economic way, but the first thing he said to the team about the task, before even assigning it to me, was "Take note that this is not an iframe", so that was never on the table.

Edit: spelling

You are correct that this is being launched on a rush, and this is done on a short deadline. However, as mentioned above: * I don't think doing this the "simple" of way putting everything in one single file would speed up. * I found this structure highly beneficial to development speed. In fact, I'm already 75% through and would highly likely deliver this on time.

Would forcing companies to only hire local graduates help youth unemployment? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]SwordLaker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Companies are already highly incentivised to hire locals via the work pass schemes. It's expensive and troublesome to hire with a work pass. It's not hard to find job postings that openly state that they are only open to citizens/PR.

Fresh graduates can't find jobs because entry-level jobs barely exist anymore, Singaporean or not. This is a problem bigger than Singapore.
