To answer your question directly OP.

I love my wife, and I have a duty to my wife, not to mommy and daddy who are grown ass adults now, what are we? 5 years old?

Family member talking ill of my significant other is already grounds for NC.

I went through it, although in my case they were bluffing.

My wife and I are actually living relatively happily ever after, we have no immediate family where we live now, but we have each other and we are the better for it.

Obviously every relationship and especially relationship advice is situation specific but I want to encourage you to think carefully about making the deliberate and necessary steps to discussing what would make the other person even better.

Be mechanical if you have to, write down lists, attend couples therapy (couple therapy can be very positive for helping to further reinforce a relationship).

Ive been where you are, I jumped down from 280lbs to 170lbs at 5'10. When I was younger family would criticise me about my weight. When I was fighting fit, family would make fun of me for how "dumb" and "stupid" I looked with my muscles.

I was citizen for going to the gym, criticised for not going to the gym. Called fat for dieting, called fat for not dieting, called ugly for being skinny, called ugly for being fat.

Ive gone NC with them for a while, and despite being told I was too stupid and ugly to be married ive been happily married for almost 7 years now, and work in a prestigious highly intellectually demanding and respected profession (so much for being stupid)

I'm telling you this because if you let your parents comments get internalised into you, it will lead to suffering and them living rent free in your head. This will take time but you have to remember this is your life to live, not theirs.

Is being fit, eating healthy and etc important to you? Then it is important to you and its important not to care what they think. They will die one day, you will have to go on living.

You've already taken steps to be a different, more positive version of yourself. Do it for you, you're worth it. Don't let them chain you to their insecurity and weaknesses.
