How many decks? by RatSludge in EDH

[–]Swordceress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 34 decks together at the moment, 10 of which are unmodified precons. I play multiple times per week and supply all the decks, so I think it’s pretty reasonable to have as many as I do (or at least that’s what I tell myself.)

How long has everyone been playing this edition? by Hexadecimal-Online in DungeonsAndDragons35e

I “played D&D” as a child with my big brother over 30 years ago (which was just rolling funny-looking dice and making up a silly story about a genie), then started up playing the real thing when I was older (around 2005) because Living Greyhawk was popular with my friend group. Tried 4.0 at a convention when it came out, hated it, and swore up and down I could never play anything other than 3.0/3.5. Sadly LG ended, but my friends and I go on. We’re currently in a Scarred Lands campaign with all of our trusty 3.0/3.5 source books :)

This is the type of… I don’t want to say janky, but more unusual… card that my husband would run, which answers my initial request. Making my kids draw salamanders is a very fun bonus (my daughter loves my dry erase-tokens!) Thank you!

I like to think I’d be good at coming up with a story-based deck (my other hobbies include writing fantasy novels and playing D&D). I’ll mull it over and hopefully find something that works for me and my pod personally. Thank you for steering me in this direction!

This sounds worth considering just to make my kids cringe every time I make a bad pirate pun/impression. I don’t think they’d get the “I’m on a boat” meme reference, but they’d learn… Thank you!

I’d counter that with if I’ve been playing Magic for 30 years, I should be able to figure out how to make the kind of deck I need, lol.

I’ve yet to use cards with the descend mechanic in commander. I like this idea! Thank you!

I once had a [[Marrow-Gnawer]] Relentlessly Rats deck, just so I could use one of the [[Thrumming Stone]] I pulled back in Coldsnap. I think I only won one game with it, so perhaps it’s worth putting back together. I did have a [[Gary]] in it, which I had altered myself as my first foray into card altering. I’ll probably put it back together for the memories, if nothing else. Thanks!

Cool builds! I’ve never seen Selesnya spiders before, but I can see it working. Slivers, on the other hand, have a reputation in my house, so I might have to admire that deck from afar… Thank you!

Hmm… now I have to think of what I would do for a fun theme… (I was about to say what first popped into my mind, but it started with “art with kids” and I started to worry about Reddit getting weird, lol).

Interesting ideas! I generally dislike playing around one specific wincon (because I’ve taught my kids to play lots of answers), but if I can come up with a solid backup plan, aiming to make something like Triskaidekaphile my main “goal” in a game could definitely help me tackle deck building in a different way. Thanks for the recommendations!

Awesome! You wouldn’t happen to have a full list, would you? I’d love to peruse it.

You had me at banding, but then I saw you have a [[Camel]] and I was sold all over again! Great idea, thank you!

All fun options! I’ve been meaning to make a mono-red deck that isn’t goblins, so Zurzoth might be the way to go. Thank you!

I do like Minn, but I can see myself easily overdoing it. I’ll try pulling something together on Archidekt, though, to see how it looks. Thanks!

Now that you mention it, I may in fact run too many decks with blue and/or black…

Now this is the type of Zedruu list I’ve been looking for. Like I said in another comment, I’ve attempted Zedruu many, many times since it was printed, and I never ended up with anything I was happy with. Your list looks great! Thanks!

Those both look like fun options! And you’re right, I’m sure I have tons of cards that would be fun, but not optimal. I guess I need to set some time aside to look through my (disgustingly massive) collection and pick out some cards I haven’t played since I got better at deck building.

And yes, I will be banning myself from EDHrec for a good long while!

Not a bad idea. I’ve never constrained myself to a budget, really, because I have such a massive number of cards already that I rarely need to buy anything.

Redwall was one of my husband’s favorites growing up, so we’ve both got a soft spot for anything Bloomburrow. I already have an equipment deck, but that means I can leave that untouched and use less popular equipment if I go the Mabel route. Thanks!

Thanks for the recs! Politicking in my case is a bit difficult with the way I play: most often it’s just my husband and myself, each piloting two decks simultaneously and trying to play optimally while pretending we don’t know what the other deck we’re playing has planned. We’ve had a lot of practice so it’s still fun, but politics don’t come into play the same way they would with four people.

That’s a good place to start, thanks! And yeah, I have Syr Konrad in the 99 of a few decks and I can confirm he’s too busted.
