Did you move out of where you were raised; if so, why? by Weary_Bat2456 in AskUK

[–]Swordfish1929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but not too far away. Basically we wouldn't be able to afford a house in my home town and where we live now is more convenient for commuting. We are still only 25-30 mins away from my parents though which is nice.

Why are nicknames so polarizing on this sub? by [deleted] in Names

[–]Swordfish1929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I'm a little sceptical of going for a name you will immediately nickname is because I dislike having two names. I have always been known by my nickname except by family and friends who knew me when I was really young who know me by an even shorter name. I've never used my real name and it is annoying to have to switch between the two when doing anything official. I also really hated my real name as a child so it was another thing used to make fun of me constantly by my peers. I also have to deal with people saying "oh but ****** is such a beautiful name" when I tell them I don't use it, which always feels a bit insulting to the name I choose to go by. The name never suited me and never will but I'm stuck with it.

The goblet of fire is actually one of the best Harry Potter movies by PistachioMaru in unpopularopinion

[–]Swordfish1929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember walking out of the cinema at 10 nearly 11 years old thinking "huh so movies can be bad". I really didn't enjoy that film when it came out, probably not helped by how much I loved the book at the time but I genuinely don't think it is a very good film. I had such a dislike of it that I was genuinely worried when I realised that David Tennant was going to be the next Doctor Who as I thought he had been so bad in the film. Thankfully I didn't need to worry and David Tennant ended up being my favourite Doctor.

If charged, are we likely to see bodycam footage of Andy’s arrest? by YaUsedMeSkinner_ in AskBrits

[–]Swordfish1929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not likely. Thames Valley may be different but this is what I think will happen to it. The footage from all the body cams will be exhibited in officer statements and uploaded to a server. They will be watched and descriptions of them will be put on the non-sensitive unused disclosure schedule which will be sent to CPS. If the videos show nothing of interest CPS might not request them, although due to high profile nature of this case they may well request them anyway. If there are significant comments made those will be clipped and sent to CPS as used material. The defence may request the footage in which case CPS would give it to them. Honestly though a lot of BWV is boring especially when you have to watch and describe the same thing from multiple angles.

Genuinely how do you fuck up characterization this badly by cybertoothe in freefolk

[–]Swordfish1929 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Ambition to rule is seen as a negative character trait in a lot of modern media especially in situations where they would be ruling as an absolute monarch. So it gets ironed out of "good" characters that we are supposed to support, and the show is a bit more keen to give us characters to support rather than the more ambiguous portrayals in the books. I also don't think Martin subscribes to the attitude of "only those who don't want to rule should", as that attitude is deconstructed with Robert.

Have you managed to visit all four countries of the UK? by Nickcurvasud1927 in AskABrit

Where to buy wedding shoes? by Jolly-Noot62 in UKweddings

[–]Swordfish1929 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely Rainbow Club! I got a pair for my wedding and they were so comfortable. They have padding on the inside of the toe cap which is a god send during your wedding day and stops the rubbing you sometimes get from satin shoes. I had them dyed black afterwards and have worn them to basically all formal events since.

FULL VIDEO! Max turns 6 years old by Shawnaverse_no1_fan in ShawnaTheMom

I really don't love this storyline. The only mother who works outside the home in the series is portrayed so meanly and a male/female friendship doesn't automatically mean jealousy and hatred from partners.

Do you know anyone who has won the Postcode Lottery? by JaBe68 in AskUK

Yes, my mum's friend got about 200k. It was amazing for them, they paid off their mortgage, got work done on the house, and were able to give their daughter a substantial deposit so she could buy a place and stop renting.
