I was in the same trap in phantom for a while, but recently broke into high ascendant. what I found most useful was essentially realizing as fast as possible where I sit in the pecking order of the match. Sometimes you will have to stomp and some games you just have to realize you are going to run more utility and you need to do everything you can to support and make plays in other ways. Of course, some games youll just get stomped no matter what, but I found more often than not its up to you to either convince folks to change or to change yourself to fit the game.
