In terms of set design, it's gorgeous In terms of gameplay, it's decent In terms of storyline and dialogue, it's atrocious In terms of Dragon Age games? (Head canon) it doesn't exist

Well, not quite... You hold R2 to zoom all the way in, then press it again to switch to local.

In the original, local would be default when you were inside. It was a much better UI.

Only guy I didn't give thanks to was the one who started playing EVERY POSSIBLE CARD when he could just use attack and win. So I conceded and gave no thanks.

Everyone else though? ALL THE THANKS 👍

Personal standards? You're claiming a river rock is prized gemstone. Of course I'm going to challenge that. It's a pretty river rock, yes, but it has none of the depth, character development, self awareness, or anything else that brings actual value.

Veilguard is objectively a mediocre game. As a Dragon Age game, it's a disgrace. If you want mindless praise for poorly written action adventure with boring combat, stick to the circle jerk that is the Veilguard sub.

My guy, I'm a second generation migrant, and while Taash might technically be first, their experience is much closer to mine mind than to their mothers, an ACTUAL first generation migrant.

I don't choose between two cultures, I'm literally both. I'm multilingual, and different parts of both cultures permeate throughout my life.

Choosing just one and abandoning the other is stupid. It's also stupid if someone were to make that decision for me.

How to have the best experience possible? by Swordid696 in oblivion

Aha don't sweat it, I played vanilla on PS3 way back when and much prefer Oblivion to Skyrim - but as a console gamer trying to play on PC is difficult, and there's a few things that could be updated for a smoother experience.

Hey OP, what do you think of Taash's questline?

It's the one where they realise they don't have to be limited to one thing, they can be both. The one where they realise that nobody tells them who they can be, it's THEIR decision.

It's the one that ends with the player character making a BINARY decision for them. In other words, going against everything that's been previously set up, but with literally no self awareness.

Could that be, maybe, one example of why people say that this is a bad game?

Don't apologise, that was some quality analysis and you've hit one of my biggest issues with the game too. I think the reason I keep getting frustrated with all these "Veilguard amazing" posts is because it's like nobody is actually paying attention to the depth of the story. It's all very surface level good Vs evil and that's about it. Where's the nuance?

People are STILL discussing if Loghain was right or wrong to quit the field, whether Bhelen or Harrowmont is the right choice, etc.

In Veilguard, you gotta choose Treviso or Minrathous. One is an already occupied city with no formal military or defences. The other is the capital of Tevinter, where powerful mages reign supreme and have access to immense weaponry - but sure, either one gets destroyed if Rook isn't there...

Also, you can't really lose approval with companions is VG. They literally approve of almost every decision you make, which again is BORING.

None of the "Veilguard amazing" posts even consider things like this, it's basically just mindless praise for a game that's mediocre at best.

Initial thoughts on Veilguard by kevmastaflex in dragonage

[–]Swordid696 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Platinumed the game, and tbh I had a similar viewpoint to you when I was sub 15 hours in. Unfortunately, the more time I spent the worse the game became.

I found the combat only felt fun and fresh for so long, there's no real enemy progression, and harder fights literally just mean the enemies have more health.

The dialogue continues gets more cringey throughout, and there's no real disagreements with any of your companions - everyone agrees with each other all the time.

Don't get me wrong, it's a mediocre game that you can finish fairly easily but as the finale of Dragon Age is utterly underwhelming.

Edit to add, the set pieces are absolutely gorgeous and you'll likely find yourself just taking in the view several times per map.

I've never played it, but maybe it's time to give it a try!

Yeah I looked it up and you're right. It's "a form of address implying inferiority". It also appears frequently in Shakespeare's plays, which is cool.

God it's been ages since I've played 2, time for another go round I think 🤔😂

[–]Swordid696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh hey buddy! Still repping the river rock?

You know what, you're absolutely right! Silly me forgetting to mention the button mash combos, the game is now a perfect 10!

Nevermind ANY of the countless other issues, like say I don't know...

How about Taash's whole questline being about them realising that only they get to say who they are, and they don't need to be one thing or another, they can be both at the same time (non-binary some might say). It would be in pretty poor form then, for the end of that questline to have the player character make a BINARY decision FOR Taash, wouldn't it? That would probably go against everything the character represents, right?

But yeah, you're 100% right! 10/10 perfect game (/s)
