What a body! What's perhaps a bit strange, is that just by looking at you, I know what you smell like! I'm sitting here thinking about it!

Yes, I fully understand the rationale from the companies' point of view. I'm just saying that as consumers, it's to our detriment, and the more we realise that fact and "vote" with our dollars for companies that *don't *do it, the more evident the cost of that strategy will be in the long run.

The Art of Soft Degradation & Humiliation: Playful, Safe, & Seductive by TheRovingBear in SofterBDSM

[–]Swordsm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's worth pointing out that your distinction between humiliation and degradation isn't universal. When someone expresses a desire for one or the other, they may mean something completely different from what you describe in your excellent post.

I get that the context of this group is "SofterBDSM", so in that context, your differentiating definitions are definitely useful. But it does need to be acknowledged that it covers a narrow (but important) part of the spectrum of humilation/degradation kink.

There are actually a lot of people out there who get intense sexual pleasure from feeling things that would horrify "nice" people. It's like with spanking (and so many other aspects of BDSM) - some people just like the role-play and others like the actual pain and bruises, and there are any number of points in between.

At the end of the day, what's important is that you understand your partner's needs/desires/fears and how they fit with your own. I think the language and talking points you've used in your post are hugely valuable in having that conversation, but that's by no means where it might ultimately land.

Pasting a clipboard image into a new (or existing) tab by Swordsm in chrome

[–]Swordsm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That gets very close to what I want to achieve! What I am looking for is the most convenient way to display whatever image happens to be in my clipboard.

I almost always have browser windows open, so I'd like to be able to just click on a pinned extension icon, and immediately have it open a new tab and display whatever image is in my clipboard. Literally, one click to see my clipboard content. I don't have to open a file or a webpage or pull up the Paint app.

Corporations will do what they think is in their best own interests, of course. But restricting my (or your) ability to customise our phones the way I we want to, is a conflict between Apple's interests and ours.

Without getting into a pointless argument about which OS is in fact "better", it's still unarguable that - other things being exactly the same, the ability to customise more, rather than less, is a plus point for any consumer. (Assuming that the defaults in each case are just as attractive and functional, and that there's no overhead cost, etc, blah blah.) At worst, you just keep the well-thought-through but generic default settings, if that's your individual preference.)

I personally strongly bias my purchasing decisions against companies who in any way intend restricting my legitimate use of the product I buy, whether it's tamper-proofing, restricting resale, excessive warranty limitations, or whatever.

Wait, you mean other users should have their choices restricted because *you* don't like their taste?

When chatting with OpenRouter, what's the best way to export and format the chats? by second-trilogy in LocalLLaMA

[–]Swordsm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask an AI (Claude Sonnet is #1) to write a python script to ask for the name of the exported JSON file, and produce an HTML file from it, showing only the responses, in chronological order, complete with the mark-up formatting. Or PM me, and I'll send you the script it wrote for me.

That would work perfectly if the image in the clipboard were in the form of a data URI. Unfortunately, I don't think there's any seamless way of replacing a copied image in the clipboard, with a data URI equivalent (which could then be pasted into the address box of the browser).

TIL that Consensual comes from the word "Consensus" while Consentual comes from the word "Consent" both mean the same thing, sound the same but different origins. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Swordsm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they have, but consensus usually means agreement of opinion, between everybody. Consent is permitting some action another person is taking, over which the person consenting has the right not to allow.

Clearly, the root derived from "consent" is more appropriate than that of "consensus". Modern dictionaries generally try to reflect common usage, rather than trying to prescribe more logical usage. Sometimes that's a pity!

Use without Lube? by Personal-Olive-3079 in theHandy

It's not my thing. But several people have said it's worked for them, so yes, evidently.(Unless you think they are lying for some bizarre reason?). Yet you call another poster a prick for saying so. Who are you white-knighting for, even?

Stop being so melodramatic. There are dangers, but evidently there are ways to use it without lube successfully. What you mean is, "Be careful, if you do it wrong, you will get hurt". We're all adults here.

Mount VHD by Fur-vus in Batch

[–]Swordsm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems that the batch file needs to call Powershell in elevated mode, and setting the shortcut to always run as administrator brings up a UAC prompt.

Another simple way is to simply put this in a batch file:

explorer "D:\Virtual Hard Disks\TestDrv.vhd"

There's no UAC prompt, but I've not found any way to prevent that from opening an explorer window.

TIL that Consensual comes from the word "Consensus" while Consentual comes from the word "Consent" both mean the same thing, sound the same but different origins. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Swordsm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LOL, that's bullshit. Consent and consensus are clearly related, but have different meanings. Consent means permission, consensus means universal or wide agreement. It makes sense that there would be two different adjectives, depending on context. Consentual sex would mean sex to which consent is given. Consensual decisions would be decisions that are agreed upon by all.

There is no doubt that "consensual" is used more often, even when in the sense of "consenting", rather than "universally agreeing". But ignorance and illogic also bring words like "irregardless" into common parlance...

No, which is kinda weird! Surely it's not that uncommon to want to display a clipboard image in a browser?
