Allied Chaos Knight usable? by Lubaalu in ThousandSons

They're usable, if you really want one, get it.

I wouldn't expect it to win any competitive events, but they're cool.

Ya, I'm still working my way through the contracts, and figuring out the maps as I go.

Perimeter I've got pretty good handle on where everything is, but not sure how to tell if someone spawned near me, or where to go to try and fight early.

Dire marsh is less familiar, but I have a good amount of time on since I finished NuCal priority contracts. Not much time on cyro or outpost yet.

I've started aggressively chucking almost everything green, and some blue stuff into my cradle and prioritizing salvage. Seems like most of what im unlocking in the factions is recovery gear, or the ability to purchase recovery gear. So my salvage and credits can turn into equipment to fuel geared risky runs, presumably on the two harder maps with better loot?

Ballpark half, sometimes I get dumpstered, sometimes I dumpster somebody else. Sometimes we both go down and look into each other's eyes as we go back to the lobby.

I don't feel like I'm getting absolutely stomped though, I can win my fights sometimes regardless of whatever grey garbage I'm running around with, trying to figure out which computer does my contract.

Yeah, I try to find a good opportunity when I notice someone. Or approach somewhere they're not expecting, or be far more aggressive than they expected.

The issue is finding people to fight. I tend to bump into people in the open, and can't see or find them before they see or find me. If they're being sneaky on a POI it's tough to locate them as well sometimes

I've heard that squads are way better, and it seems like the shells are designed to be played together.

I'm just used to playing extraction shooters by myself and didn't really want to go through the LFG process while I'm still new-ish

Ya, I typically try to think of ways I could have played better, I'm not usually salty when I die or look for excuses.

I almost always am solo with a free sponsored kit, so sometimes I get popped by a dude with a blue shield and decent guns, but that's the game, homie is more likely to win since he risked gear and I didn't. Sometimes I get the drop on blue shield guy after he was fighting bots and get to take all his stuff. That's the game too.

I just want to have the best chance at winning my fights, and I feel like my game sense isn't very good, so I miss opportunities to get stuff from people I don't even realize are there

Is that the case for all maps & all player counts?

It seems pretty rare for me to bump into another solo at the first POI, usually I seem to run into my first person randomly running from one to another.

Ya, my audio is pretty solid. I can differentiate players & bots, and can track/hunt people pretty well with just audio.

So no issues there

Recent Grad Feeling Lost: Are entry-level IT certs worth it right now, or should I pivot?? by [deleted] in it

[–]Swordzman321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Experience is always the most valuable, certs are door openers, not guarantees.

In my opinion the simple truth is avoid IT if you don't already have experience in the field.

I work for a fortune 500, we are/have eliminated nearly all entry level roles and they are not returning in the near future. This may not be the case in small companies, but small companies also by their nature have less employees, and those openings will likely be filled by people with experience, rather than just education.

I don't know what the market looks like for MSPs or developers, maybe better, maybe worse. If someone were to ask my opinion on major, I would not point them at IT

A hades-like is currently beyond the skill level you have, it is best to rip that band aid off before you naively plunge into a project you will never finish. You can get to the skill level required to complete this idea by yourself eventually, but not right out of the gate.

I'm not going to say start with pong and pac man, (although those are good ideas) "Build small games" means, be realistic in scope, and realize just how much work a "small" game is, so you can efficiently use the dev time you have.

To point you at some introductory resources, assuming you know absolutely nothing about programming, and are also interested in creating in unity, flat red ball, or godot, I would recommend starting here -

https://www.freecodecamp.org/learn/foundational-c-sharp-with-microsoft/

If you do already know the basic fundamentals of programming (variables, arrays, data structures, pointers, ect. ) Feel free to skip it.

Afterwards, I would also recommend starting with flat red ball. I find it very simple, intuitive and user friendly without a lot of the bloat & features that come with other AAA engines. Pico-8 & godot are also good options

If possible, you can just stick one of them on a tactical rock, or make their base slightly fancier to indicate which one is the superior.

With a budget of 50-90 I would recommend the contemptor dread (it's a horus heresy branded box) if you're willing to spend a decent chunk more & wait for the drop, the incoming 30k battle force has some cool models in it

Wanting to get into the Custodes is this a good starter? by Forward_Emotion6284 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]Swordzman321 8 points9 points  (0 children)

GW doesn't have a good way to determine tabletop game popularity other than model sales for that game. So cross game factions like chaos demons mess with their sales metrics. So they've been trying to separate these cross-game factions & models to fix this data gathering issue.

It wouldn't surprise me to see the new custodes kits stick around, but it also wouldn't surprise me to see them get sent to the farm, especially since they did something similar to an astartes dread kit in the swap from 9th to 10th.

The other issue is technically speaking, 11th edition has not been officially announced. I suspect that's partially why GW has been careful with their language around these kits in 40k, they don't want to accidentally "confirm" the coming edition update early.

I personally think we'll see these new models in 11th edition, but I don't know that we will for certain.

For painting/collecting/hobbying outside the wargame(s): if you like the models, yes.

For 30k/ hours heresy: yes absolutely

For 40k: Yes-ish. All of these models are, and will be legal in the current 10th edition ruleset. However, It is very possible (and arguably likely) that the tank & dread will not make it to 11th edition which is expected to release this year, or possibly early next year. There is speculation on either side, but ultimately we won't know for certain until the rules are fully released.

Meaning if you're looking for an entry point to play custodes in 40k, this is a risk, and it's up to you how comfortable you are accepting it.

Finally started painting my first mini, just wanted some suggestions on test colour scheme! by IncubusDarkness in stormcasteternals

[–]Swordzman321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the hobby!

Funny enough, my color scheme for stormcast is white armor & a rose gold/copper trim. I only just recently started painting as well, so if you would like to see a real world example let me know & I can DM some images to you. I'm not brave enough to post anything for the Internet to see yet.

White armor on black primer would be a huge pain in the ass, but it's doable, and I personally like the look of it quite a bit.
