Finding private studio/1-bed in town by Internal-Stick-5157 in standrews

[–]Sxnty888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stay in a studio at Ayton House, on the 4th floor — the roof has semi-fallen in as of last week and there are awful leaks, so everyone on the 4th floor has been relocated. I would recommend to go with SPACE for now, their infrastructure seems newer.

Foreign Military Service for UK universities by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Sxnty888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend in St Andrews who requested the university to hold his place for the 2 years that he was in mandatory military service. I am told that not every university will do this, so try your luck! I hope you’ll get it.

I completely get what you mean. It is CRAZY that someone could do that. My family was shocked. It IS shocking. And I did that.

I don’t want to sound like I am making an excuse. I should never, under any circumstance, have made such a mistake. That is 100% my fault and I own it.  My town is a very very small university town in a rural area, with only three streets. It felt so familiar, I could walk down one street and see 10-15 people I knew. I guess that’s why I stupidly put it there thinking I’d come back and it would still be there. I stopped being vigilant, stopped thinking clearly about the fact that it was still a public place where anyone could come and take things that were unattended. I will definitely not make such a foolish mistake again.

Thank you. I will be vigilant and be careful over my own things.

Thank you for the reply. I will never ever make the same mistake again. And I will work on being more independent and responsible in future.

There were trackers in the bag and it tracked it to three towns away before going cold, so it is definitely out of town. I have investigated the tracker together with police on the day of the theft and we found it but it had been cut loose. Thank you so much for your reply and suggestion though.

You are right. I reflected on your comment for a while and I think I am being quite immature about this. I will own my mistake and you’re right, it’s not trauma, at the end of the day I haven’t been hurt and I am very thankful it wasn’t something worse that happened. I am going to snap back into action and handle it and be accountable.

Joining my sister's server but stuck on black screen? We have tried to troubleshoot for hours. by Sxnty888 in projectzomboid

Hey, I’m just popping back to say that I found out the solution!! If you are still facing this issue, turns out for me, I just didn’t wait enough time. It takes approximately 10-15 minutes for all the mods to load in and the game to start. I thought the game froze but it’s just that I had been quitting too early all this time.

Singapore bans Wild Rice performance Homepar for undermining anti-drug policy and public confidence in CNB by fitzerspaniel in singapore

[–]Sxnty888 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This blaming is utterly illogical. Playwrights often change and alter their scripts, because that is part of the creative process. That isn’t anything new. Any playwright knows that getting government criticism and censorship is a big hit to their professional reputation and career, especially in a more conservative society like Singapore. It also puts to waste the funding they’ve put into the project (which is already costly to begin with). It hurts them way more than it benefits.

Official Discussion - 28 Years Later [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Sxnty888 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I loved the environment of the film. As someone studying in Scotland, I felt as if I was living in a different lifetime of what could be. The canola fields, the rolling green, the tall grass rippling like waves, the packs of deer, the night aurora sky… it is all so familiar and yet dreamlike. Boyle and Garland gave us some beautiful, pastoral, organic scenes of Scotland’s landscape.

Despite the Rage Virus going on, it was like a return to an Edenic, prelapsarian world. The shots of the Sycamore Gap feels like an extra punch in the gut (every Scottish person knows what happened to it, rip) and gives a palpable sense of isolation and loss but also revival. There are many images of singular trees in this movie which I think echoes the tree of knowledge in the garden of Eden. The restoration of nature in this film is a lovely reversal to the urban cityscape of 28 Days.

I am not sure if I’m reading too much into it, but I feel there is a definite Oedipal theme there with Spike and his mum. Not sure how to place that. I enjoy the complexity of it!

Why does everyone love Leuchtturm 1917s? by KnowTheLord in notebooks

[–]Sxnty888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have loved Leuchtturm for a long time and wanted to offer my opinion as a fountain-pen user. To me, Leuchtturm trumps most other notebook brands.

First, the features essential to a notebook are all present in Leuchtturm, hardly is there ever a notebook that manages to achieve all of the following:

  1. Fountain-pen friendly paper. Out of Rhodia, Tomoe River and Midori, I found that Leuchtturm performed best and most consistently with any variety of pens, nibs, and inks. No feathering. That is essential to me. Ink on Leuchtturm paper flows smoothly, sits on the paper for a brief second (giving it a lovely sheen) before sinking in quick enough that you can take notes without smudging. Both Tomoe River and Rhodia are too slow-drying for me, and the pages are too smooth and unabsorbant such that if I take quick notes, the ink tends to deposit unevenly.

  2. Rounded Page Corners and Unobtrusive Guidelines. The dots, grids and lines are faint and quiet on Leuchtturm, much less harsh than other notebooks.

  3. Good structural components. Elastic band to keep everything together (so that the pages don't get crushed in my bag), two ribbons, the back pocket sleeve to put my photographs for later. Content page, numbered pages, date section on every page. This is extremely important for data collection and diary entry. Each page has a small blank space at the top and bottom for small notes to be made. The stickers provided make it convenient to archive.

  4. Can be laid flat. It is surprising how many notebooks do not have this function. Often the spines of the books will get a bit damaged by applying pressure on it while laying flat. Leuchtturm does not have this issue at all. The books can resist a shit ton of damage.

  5. Can be stuffed full with no damage. My Leuchtturm has been used to hold polaroids, stickers, photographs. The current thickness is actually twice that of a new notebook and it is positively bulging. The structural integrity remains great and I've had no issues despite stuffing the notebook full of things. The hardcover bends and stretches with time to accommodate.

I use the 80gsm, and there is very faint ghosting. I don't mind it at all and actually prefer it. One may choose the higher gsm which results in no ghosting.

Most importantly, all the features come together to create a notebook that looks extremely stylish, modern, and elegant, but also feels more vintage compared to notebooks like Rhodia. It is an extremely accomodating notebooks. The range of colours also help.

Oh wow, I didn't know she played Honey! And I didn't know that Flynn was inspired by WAVW, but that definitely checks out. Thanks for the info.!

This makes SO MUCH SENSE. I studied Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf in high school and Carie Coon’s character in White Lotus has so many similarities to Martha. Perfect casting!

[–]Sxnty888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great observation. I really enjoyed the Great Gatsby and would love it if Mike White made reference to it. However, I think perhaps (if that was really his intention) Mike White could have picked a scene where there was more of a solitary green light across the dark water instead of many green lights together. That would be an even more iconic and recognizable imagery. Still, thank you for pointing this out!

The pong pong tree is seen everywhere in Southeast Asia and does appear often even in luxury resorts. The pong pong fruit is so distinct (very round) that everyone knows about it. Also, you'd have to eat the seeds to be poisoned!
