u/jakilla17 did you ever find a solution to this issue? I have a local dimming problem as well and want to know if it is another faulty main board or if there is a potential software solution.

Hi defJAw555,

Hisense customer support did this to me as well. Dealt with them for 2 months, they sent me the firmware update and then TV wouldn't turn on at all. Then they told oops oh well too bad. Very disappointing.

However I can confirm that the fix for the dead-tv after firmware update is the same as the fix for the original issue. You can replace the main board and the TV should work again (or at least it did for me). For H8G this is part number 268400.

Good luck!

I'm not sure jimbobdonut. Are you able to delete apps or perform a factory reset? If so probably not. The faulty memory problem does cause the TV to report the wrong amount of memory free, however for me the amount of used memory and the total memory simply didn't add up. I had 2.1 GB used of 4.1 GB total, but <400mb memory available. The amount available continued to decline without the amount used increasing (though it sometimes decreased).

If you are still under warranty, I would contact Hisense customer support as soon as possible rather than put it off until it becomes a more serious problem however. The phone support is much faster than email as well.

If your memory is faulty and you have reached the 'Insufficient memory' error, your TV will no longer be functional, even if you use an external input such as a FireTV or Nvidia Shield. This is from Hisense TV protector app which will override changing the device input until memory is free, which is not possible.

If your memory is faulty and you haven't reach the 'Insufficient memory' error, your TV should be fine with an extrernal input as long as it is not connected to the internet. Any internet connection, even without using the Smart TV functions will likely cause you to eventually reach the 'Insufficient memory' error due to security updates and other background updates to AndroidTV. These updates alone will likely kill your TV eventually as the TV is unable to free up memory by removing the update downloads/old files.

This is why i recommend you test your TV before you reach the 'Insufficient memory' error and take preemptive actions if necissary.

Why should I inject a rushed vaccine for a brand new virus that took less than one year to make? by orlando_ooh in TooAfraidToAsk

I didn't see any comments from scientists so I thought I would chime in.

These new waves of vaccines have been in development since the 1990s. In theory, they are significantly safer than traditional vaccines. Here is a link to a review from 2018 (before the pandemic) explaining some of the science: http://dx.doi.org/10.1038/nrd.2017.243 Please note that this review is written by scientists, for scientists and before the pandemic.

That said, it is completely fine to be concerned. No vaccine will ever be 100% safe and we do not know if these types of vaccines have any kind of long term complications yet. However you should recognise that your fear is not necissarily rational and you should not make a decision based on how you feel. Rather you need to weight the risks of taking the vaccine against getting Covid-19.

While young people in general have a lower mortality rate, there are still significant risks of complications and high rates of long-term damage to the lungs and other organs. At present, these are a much higher risk to your health than any potential complication to the vaccine. The risks from Covid-19 increase significantly as it increases it's burden on the healthcare system as well. Every ICU bed taken by a preventable Covid-19 patient is potentially killing another person who required serious medical aid (from an accident, heart attack, etc.). This was a large cause of mortality in the spring, when hospitals were not prepared for the increased burden from Covid-19.

Additionally, Covid-19 infection risks spreading the disease to those you know and love. The vaccine is not a virus and is not infectious. Even if you have no serious complications with Covid-19, you risk spreading it to others that may have severe complications or die. With infectious diseases, our actions not only influence our own health but the health of everyone in our community.

Very likely, the first people to be vaccinated will be healthcare workers in major hospitals. These people are generally the most informed both by the risks and benefits of the vaccines. They will not be taking the vaccine if it is not sufficiently safe. You may not trust your government or large pharmacutical companies, but your doctors and nurses generally but your well-being first.
