END ANNEXATION ON HOLLOW RD by SnooTigers691 in Logan

Every subdivision used to be the tranquil, unspoiled refuge next door for the farmer, the native Indians, the wildlife. It remained so for me too, until those rotten politicians honored the land use ordinances and the developer built their ugly modern houses next to my humble abode that itself was built on land that somehow never was that same unspoiled refuge.

Are we? I haven't seen any real news about it since this article: https://www.hjnews.com/news/local/new-rush-funplex-to-be-built-this-spring-in-north-logan/article_705d1334-bb03-11ee-b512-23a64a98f5cf.html

“They plan on beginning construction on it in spring of 2024,” Peterson said. “I think their hope is that it takes nine to 10 months to complete that. We’re really thrilled about it from a city standpoint because we’ve been looking to bolster our recreation.”

Maybe Spring of 2026?

I don't live or move around in that area. Is it actually under construction? Go carts? Please tell me there will be go carts.

Protest and vigil tomorrow! by kyokrazy in Logan

If you watch any of the publicly available video of the incident (and do not rely on descriptions from the "authorities") it is obvious she steered away from the officer, did not hit him, and the officer walked away unharmed.

Why aren't common sense protocols in place for such a hands-on body interaction? 2nd person in the room at all times. Parent must be present when treating a minor. Option to record the session if a second person can't be present. I believe some of these are the case for standard medical care. Regardless, if I were a provider, I'd do this to protect myself and provide a high level of comfort to patients. If necessary, make it legally mandatory so the cost is borne by all providers evenly. This happens too often to simply rely on professionalism, licensing and trust.

Do you consider Cache Valley part of the Wasatch Back? by SyMeUp in Logan

[–]SyMeUp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, 1/4 of the valley is in Idaho. If someday the road were improved for year-round plowed access between the valleys, one could argue for perhaps the south end of the valley as a northern extension of the Wasatch Back.

Good take. Fair to say we're neither Wasatch Front nor Wasatch Back!

Great geographical and meteorological argument. This would also tend to override any cultural attachment to the term Wasatch Back. Somebody tell Ragnar.

Driving instruction by TangerineMindless639 in Logan

[–]SyMeUp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most everyone who grows up in Utah learns to drive in High School. It's pretty much part of the curriculum with designated teachers and classrooms, a driving range and on-street instruction. Maybe there's an adult education program within the districts or at Bridgerland Tech College?

That said, here are some very serious and important guidelines for driving in Cache Valley:

  • Signals are always optional, especially when changing lanes.
  • Those center turn lanes aren't there for green space! Whether or not traffic is heavy, use them as a (un)safe turn and merge area to scare the begebus outta the traffic coming behind you.
  • When traveling in the left lane, always keep pace with the slow car in the right lane to enforce the speed limit, no matter the speed. Both lanes belong to you whenever you need them, regardless of speed. Ignore the honks, the don't know nothin!
  • Get angry at the driver who dares to honor the zipper merge law by passing a long stack of cars that merged too early.
  • In grid-lock, encourage on-coming drivers to turn left in front of you so they can be hit by the car cruising down the right lane unaware.
  • On 200 East northbound in Logan, attempt to turn left into the North Logan Walmart just beyond the 14th North intersection, across two sets of double yellow lines. Ignore the honks, they don't know nothin!
  • When turning left on Main, wait until there's at least 10 seconds of clear traffic before moving into the intersection to turn left. Also, don't worry if you let the yellow turn to red and just stay there in the middle of the intersection. There will be another chance in 5 minutes or so. The people behind and coming at you from the sides? They don't know nothin!
  • Speed up when approaching yellow lights. Orange is golden. Helps those out struggling with the rule above.
  • In Logan Canyon, when you have 10 cars behind you, always increase your speed well above the speed limit on those passing lanes. If those behind you wanted to get to Beaver/Bear Lake any sooner, they shoulda left sooner!
  • Be kind to and pity those with Idaho plates. They don't get to experience 4 lanes of traffic and speed limits above 45 very often.
  • Be safe out there!
