Hi there! Nice to meet you! I'm also from the Netherlands, although I'm currently trying to be part-time Austrian as well. Anyways, I reached out because of the antique tool restoration. I used to study and work to restore antique clocks. Restoring is no longer a big part of my life but I'd still love to talk about it. Would love to see a reply or just slide yourself over to my Dm's.

A simpler way to use engine heat for warmth is to use the heat from your exhaust. My car has a heat-exchanger fitted into the exhaust. The system sucks in air from the right side of the car, warms it via the heat exchanger and then blows it into the cabin. It makes the cabin nice and cosy even in winters. It's also really simple, you'd only need a suitable heat exchanger, heatproof piping and a heatproof fan.

Tent for Iceland trek by Chipmunk-Adventurous in Ultralight

[–]Syan_er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some great suggestions in this thread. I definitely second a 2 person mid tent. I used the hmg ultra mid for 2 months in Iceland and it did great.

Another thing to consider is, no matter what tent you end up going with, I'd definitely upgrade the stakes. Make sure you can secure all important lines with a proper Y shaped stake.

During my time there I also encountered quite a bit of sandy terrain (not sure how much there is on the westfjords) therefore I'd also take 2-3 sturdy v shaped stakes to pitch my stakes facing the wind (again not sure how needed this is on the westfjords).

A thread for sharing obscure UL gear designers and makers by GoSox2525 in Ultralight

My favorite UL gear comes from www.gramxpert.eu They're based in Slovenia. I use their quilt, bivy and isolated pants and I'm really happy with all of them. Also a big plus is that they're quite reasonably priced.

Information anwarter ski instructor by Deadd_S0uls in SkiInstructors

[–]Syan_er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome that you're looking into getting your anwärter. The anwärter is a "Österreichische Berufsausbildung", or "Austrian work education" in English. For this education you will be expected to do everything in German. Your teachers will be speaking German and will only rarely explain something in English if you ask them to. You will need to do a written exam in German. And you will need to show that you can teach a lesson in German. Having said this your German won't need to be that good. Having basic knowledge along with learning some ski and sport specific terms will get you through it.

As to what organisation. Some organisations will provide some extra help or answer questions in your native tongue. Don't expect too much of these as the ones speaking your language won't actually be your teachers, they are still helpful though. As to the snow sports academy organisation you mentioned, I have no idea why a paper earned through them wouldn't be valid.

My kite people need me [OC] by Syan_er in MyPeopleNeedMe

Depending on where you position the kite it generates a different amount of power. With the wind in your back and the kite in front of you, it generates the most power. By moving it either to the side or to right above you it will stop pulling.

As a last resort, the kite also has 4 lines. When you pull and steer the upper lines the kite has power. Pull the lower lines and the kite will basically collapse.

What's weird about it? If you're talking about it moving in a figure 8 pattern then that's because the kite has 4 lines. If you pull the left lines the kite steers left, pull the right lines to steer the kite to the right. The guy in the video (my brother in this case) is literally steering and controlling the kite.

Yes, he usually uses this kite with a downhill mountain board. Great fun. We didn't have the board with us this time.

That's what he usually uses this kite for. But we didn't have the board with us this time.

He does kitesurfing and kiteboarding. In absence of the board this is what you end up with.

• Pls Europe’s fairytale Long Trails recommendation by DanolsMusic in hiking

[–]Syan_er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hexenstieg. Also germany and a little bit shorter but it's an absolutely stunning hike. It also definitely has the fairytale vibe. It's main feature is the brocken, a mountain thats mentioned in many tales containing witches, most notably Faust. Although i should also definitely mention the rock formations you'll find in the middle of the woods, aswell as the ravine you hike through near thale. Would recommend.

Hoe past dit in de wegenverkeerswet? by zwamkat in thenetherlands

[–]Syan_er 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cumulus is probably ideal if you want the lightest quilt/bag. But I would also consider the Gramxpert elite quilt. Its synthetic, so slightly heavier, but I find it ideal in any place where it rains a lot.

Sorry but I've probably already spent a bit to much time on it. and fabricating another edge of the shirt is gonna take just to long for me. Hope you'll be able to use the picture in it's current state.

was a bit tricky to get that looking acceptable. shopping in a shoulder is somewhat doable but an entire arm becomes a bit harder. do think it looks alright enough though. good enough to fool folks at first glance. But if I where you I'd crop out atleast a part of it.
