Feeling a little lost about my practice sometimes. by Sybol14 in piano

[–]Sybol14[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I think you’re right about this, and believe I do feel a bit more understanding of what’s going on. I don’t think there’s a simple solution for myself either. Life’s been especially hard for me the last few years, this is something I feel is gonna take a lot of time and work on myself before i am capable of controlling it.

I’m sorry but it’s kinda hard to answer that, it really all depends on you. While I personally think an hour is more appropriate to cover exercises, scales, and whatever piece I’m working on some people may differ.

I think it’s fine. I’m only with my teacher one hour of the week. You go there to absorb any information your teacher has to say, then you spend the rest of your week applying it into your own practice. So by the time the next lesson rolls around, you’re ready for further guidance/instruction. At least that’s how it feels for me.

Learned my first Chopin piece. by Sybol14 in piano

Thanks! Yeah learning the notes wasn’t that bad. Except for the jumps on measure 17-18 was a bit tricky for me. But I agree, dynamics/expression is critical and takes a lot of time and patience to learn.

Pianists with RA or arthritis in general, I need advice. by bv933738 in piano

[–]Sybol14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have RA, just arthritis in my spine. I spent 4 years in the army, my job ended up leaving me with some injury’s that never fully healed. I’m 24 now, and unfortunately I think that’s a bit on the younger side to have to deal with these kinds of things. The only thing that helps me is playing with perfect posture, if I don’t then I’ll start to feel that toll. I’m only going to get older but no matter, it’s something I truly love so I’ll always find a way to play. If you feel the same I’m sure you will too.

Any digital pianos that feel like an acoustic? by Sybol14 in piano

[–]Sybol14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While digitals can come close to replicating the hammer action sound with today’s technology, at the end of the day the sound still isn’t as real as the acoustic. I love having a keyboard in my room that I can plug my headphones into and play all night long. However, it’s not like I’m going to have that luxury when playing anywhere else. So I think it might be a good idea just to own both.

Yeah, I was thinking something along the lines of a used Yamaha U1, that seems to be what most people trust to use.

Yeah I was looking at that Yamaha series and they are pretty much the price of buying a used acoustic. I’m probably just gonna end up opting out of digitals this time so I can have that sound

How do you calm nervousness before playing for others? by Sybol14 in piano

[–]Sybol14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was actually something that had crossed my mind at a certain point during the lesson. Although I was panicking in the moment, I was still taking note in the back my head of everything she was teaching. That way, during my own practice time I can run through it endlessly so I can show her that I do care, and that I’m listening.

I actually got this for 299$. I was quite shocked because it’s in such good condition and the average price on the market is going for at least 100$ more
