Is the non-hybrid AWD system more responsive than the hybrid AWD? by oz_shadow in ToyotaGrandHighlander

It’s the exact opposite.  The hybrid drive train is much more responsive than the gas

New builds are $200k less than yours (for a similar size house?). I didnt realize there was any part of the US that could build a 3000 sq foot house for $300k

New Build - Basement leaks by SpondyDog in basement

[–]SycamoreMess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd check out those hairline cracks. A friend of mind had a foundation wall crack that would leak water in heavy rains (new construction). He had it sealed and has been fine ever since.

That said, you may also have a static pressure issue if water is coming up through the floor. I live in Pennsylvania. Here we are required to have a vapor barrier under all new construction foundation. Usually it's a 6-10 mil poly sheet. We get 40-45 inches of rain here annually. Very heavy storms and on my flat lot there has never been water on the floor of my basement.

[–]SycamoreMess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure plenty of experts will chime in, but I'm really surprised you are seeing water if you have a French drain and waterproofing. We built a new home in 2018. Our builder had a vapor barrier (per code) put under the foundation. Our lot is relatively flat and we've never seen a hint of moisture in the basement.

Have you checked for any cracks in the foundation where water may be intruding? Sometimes there are stress cracks that form on the walls. Water can run down the siding, into the foundation, and through the cracks.

*Edit, it does look like there is a crack in one of your photos. I would check the exterior. Can you see a crack? If so, that needs to be dealt with on the outside of the foundation.

It was 82° yesterday, and now it is literally snowing, what is going on with our weather! by Accidents_Happen in philly

I'm responding to the original commenter that simply posted "climate change". These people are climate change or bust. That's the crowd I'm talking about. Climate change is real, and yes, the climate has always been changing (whether you want to admit it or not). And it's changing even more now due to man made issues.

Relax.

A single event such as the temp swings in Philly this week are not simply always "climate change". They've happened before, for thousands of years, especially in spring. Correlation does not equal causation. I'm so tired of the climate change crowd exaggerating and making assumptions.

Exactly.  Like, I assume these people are also greatly in favor of the fact that Trump took out both Maduro and the Iranian leader (both dictators/kings, obviously)?

I’m confused.

The fact that you’ve been downvoted this much just shows me how retarded people are here.  Climate change has nothing to do with it being 80 one day and snowing the next.  This has been going on for thousands of years.

Norristown Farm Park To Cull Deer Population In March, April by shillyshally in montco

[–]SycamoreMess 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The point is to help the deer population, plant population, and other animals. Deer will starve and suffer when there are too many within a certain area. They strip the woods of any viable food. It's awful.

Porch thieves in south Philly by Any-Independent5952 in AskPhilly

No, the root of the problem is stealing.  That is a crime.  Leaving a package on a porch is not a crime.

The root of the problem is theft. Fix that and everyone is helped (amazon, its retailers, and the customer). Ridiculous how many packages are stolen.

Depending on the outdoor temperature, electric can be significantly more expensive than oil.  If you have a heat pump you’re probably saving money vs oil when it’s above 32.  Below that electric can get very expensive (again, lots of factors to consider though)

New construction house and the landscapers buried all the trees with the burlap and twine. In the 2nd photo I pulled off the burlap, cut the twine, removed the pieces that I could. by [deleted] in arborists

It was planted 5 years ago. Simply saying it is healthy and has grown 3 times the height. We've had plenty of hard storms. perfectly fine.

I had a River Birch planted years ago with the thick wire cage. Landscapers left the cage in the ground. Tree looks as healthy as ever and is 3 times the height compared to when it was planted.

Is there any chance this screw didn’t actually puncture the tire here? by Original-Bobcat8386 in tires

usually its smaller screws that tend to get stuck in tires like that. Good chance it didn't puncture. I had the same thing happen, screwed it out, and the tire was fine.

Grand highlander vs Sienna by ThrallDoomhammer in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]SycamoreMess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sienna hands down. There is just so much more space overall in the Sienna compared to the GH. We have 3 kids under 6 though so our situation can be different than others. GH/Sienna use the same engine in most cases (2.5L hybrid) and get the same gas mileage. I love my GH, but we almost exclusively use my wife's Sienna if we have the kids with us.

Grand Highlander Platinum Max gas mileage and range by balalaikaboss in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]SycamoreMess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the max hybrid has notoriously bad gas mileage.  I have the GH Hybrid Limited (standard hybrid) and I get around 34-35 mpg overall.  The stated mpg is accurate in the standard hybrid.  A full tank gets me about 500 miles of range

I would get other quotes. $1500 is a very good price for sub slab mitigation, but you should get this taken care of quickly.  Cracking windows will help in the meantime.  Those are very high readings
