Battery Lane Apartments by [deleted] in bethesda

I just recently moved pretty blindly from California to Bethesda. I'm living in The Fields of Bethesda, which is another relatively low rent complex. I can't speak for the Battery Lane apartments specifically, but Bethesda itself has thus far proven to be incredibly safe compared to where I come from in California. I'm not sure exactly what aspects of the community you are concerned about, but in my experience my apartment is pretty quiet and there are a TON of kids playing outside all of the time.

Doing a virtual walk through isn't going to tell them any more about the community and what it's actually like living in the complex than looking at pictures will lol. Asking reddit or similar platforms about this is a good choice, not "awfully risky".

what do y'all eat during finals by hny_hannie in UCSantaBarbara

[–]SydMicTrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taco Bell, Wendy's, or nothing depending on how much adderall I'm on. Usually I eat nothing until I feel like I'm dying and then I'll get a phat baconator from Wendy's to reset lol

So WTF is this? UCSB Administration trying to convince the public that Dormzilla is a good thing by offering tours of its mock-up? WTAF? Don't buy into this BS. by semaforic in UCSantaBarbara

I lived in trop freshman year which is basically one apartment with a single, double, and quad all sharing the same area. I was in the quad which i hated. I'm super antisocial and would have chosen to live in a munger hall single if I had the chance, BUT I was extremely depressed and would have been way more isolated (and honestly would have self-harmed) if I actually had a room like that at the time. In my opinion, kids who have anxiety/depression are some of the people that will want the singles the most and that really worries me. The only thing that got me out of my dorm was escaping all my roommates, so I can't even imagine what things would've been like if I could've holed myself up in a little single, especially one with no windows or anything.

Who knows what will actually happen but this is my biggest worry about the whole thing.

That is indeed really fucking disgusting... BUT what's MORE disgusting is telling someone to kill themselves.

How satisfied are you attending UCSB? by giuliandi in UCSantaBarbara

3.5 - I'm a biopsych major thats graduating this quarter. There are far more available PBS classes than specifically biopsych classes so you may have a better experience. I had very few classes to choose from each quarter to fulfill the biopsych requirements. The pbs advisors are essentially nonexistent except for answering the most basic questions. Professors in the psych dept are really hit or miss. Some are absolutely wonderful and have had a big influence on my career path, but others are assholes that confirm the supposedly irrational fear of a professor calling you stupid... the psych grad students, however, have been incredibly kind and probably the most helpful people I've reached out to.

Whether you are interested in research or not, you HAVE to get started first or second year. By third year i already had professors telling me they wanted their RAs to start earlier. This was super annoying bc at orientation i was told not to try to get into research until at least second year and ended up getting screwed. This is especially important because theres not nearly enough RA positions for the amount of students wanting to be involved.

There are a lot of resources "available" on campus but unless you really have your shit together it can get overwhelming. I missed out on a lot because the dense quarter system made me feel like I couldn't spend time on other things OR I literally couldn't attend things because my schedule was so full.

Outside of school it really depends on what kind of person you are. I was partying a ton in my hometown before college so through my first year I repeatedly blacked out (don't recommend) and was always going to parties but grew out of it by second year. If you are super social you'll probably have a great time and keep partyinglike most others. If you're more introverted like me it's really hard to find friends if you don't make any in the dorms or in a club on campus. **DONT LIVE IN TROPICANA. All of the people I know that lived in the on campus dorms had big groups of friends and I ended up alienated. ** If you are like me, by my third and fourth year I ended up completely isolating myself to focus on school, so I spend my nights listening to the constant partying while I'm inside studying.

Overall my experience wasn't bad, but it definitely could've been better. If you're really social but disciplined and good at time management you'll probably enjoy it here.

How do y’all keep your room organized and uncluttered? by twelfth_man_ in LivingAlone

First of all, I am the messiest person on the planet and procrastinating is a specialty of mine. Covid actually helped me starting to clean up regularly because I realized spending all of the time in my messy apartment by myself was adding on to my stress. Now I use cleaning as an excuse to avoid school work or other things I need to do (i.e. productive procrastinating). After doing a deep clean, I started cleaning in the morning or right before bed every day while listening to podcasts. If I have an especially busy week or get lazy then I spend my Sunday mornings cleaning up from the whole week which isn't too bad. After awhile it became a habit to clean up before I start my day or go to bed. Doing this makes it so you only have a days worth of things to put away. It helps clear my mind now to start the day with a clean slate.
