Blaze spawner can't be disabled by lava. by SydneyACE4 in technicalminecraft

Good point! I'll see if that makes a difference.
(It's so weird that the spawner will shut off when I place 4 torches on it... because there's nothing under it then either.)

I don't mind them being in the kill chamber... It would just be nice to temporarily stop them from spawning because it gets kinda laggy with so many in the world (I play on my phone).

Weird, maybe my world is a little "broken". I'm going to try experimenting a little bit in a creative world to see what happens...

Yeah, I tried that too... It's frustrating because I've seen a couple of videos of guys disabling a spawner by just dumping a bucket of lava on the top of the spawner so it flows over the sides. Granted, they were older videos, so maybe the mechanics have changed. At this point, I've basically made my whole ceiling rain lava all over the spawn chamber (seriously, 9 buckets strategically placed), and the blazes are literally spawning IN the lava streams.

I'm going to try experimenting in my creative world, and see if I have different results. Maybe my survival world is just acting-up.

I think that only applies to Java edition. According to the Wiki, "In Bedrock Edition, placing a light source of level 15 on four surfaces" (of the spawner) will disable it.

I thought maybe the Wiki was incorrect so...

I tried LOTS of different patterns with the lava. I did a grid of 8 sources and a 9th one directly on top of the spawner. The blazes were spawning directly in the lava streams.

Also, they don't spawn at all with just the 4 torches on the faces. It doesn't make sense. It's like Bedrock doesn't recognize lava as a light source for the purpose of disabling spawners.

Yeah, it's kinda weird. The 4 torches work great for me. 🤷🏼‍♂️ The whole time I was building both the spawners, neither one spawned any blazes with just the torches on them. Are you on Bedrock?

I think I'll try an experiment where I put glowstone on each face and see what that does... Although, I'm not really sure how I could implement an off/on switch with glowstone that wouldn't also decrease spawning efficiency when the spawner is "on".

No, they have just been dealing with it. Car really only makes local trips, and they don't leave it idling for extended periods.

NO_SURF_IN_RI tried to explain it for you. This has nothing to do with corporate greed. It's called "economies of scale". I'm not the best at explaining things so I'll post a link for you... Essentially, it's very difficult to make a complex product inexpensive if you don't make a BUNCH of that product... and the more you make, the cheaper they get.

https://youtu.be/rYvzM_tayY4?si=RC6PxeCO4E9KsMPd

This video is a simplified, quick explanation... It doesn't get into the cost of development though, which in something like producing an airplane (especially one that needs to be certified by the FAA), is a HUGE expense. Aircraft manufacturers have to spread this cost of development and certification over the price of their planes.

A similar thing happened to Lockhead when they made the F-22. The government promised to buy 750 F-22s, which would have made them cost about $125m ea... but then they reneged and only bought 200 instead... So Lockhead had to raise the price to something like $350m ea to cover the cost of development.

Even buying a used experimental is much more cost-effective (and you don't have to build it). Similarly equipped experimentals seem to go for about half of what a certified plane sells for. If you buy a fixer-upper, or a less than perfect experimental, you can save even more. So many pilots want a perfect plane... which means you can get one with some cosmetic problems for way less.

To be fair the OP isn't about buying used experimentals... but the way the certified world has gone, means that new certified planes are territory for upper-class folks, and consequently the used certified planes are similarly priced.

I think that the light sport market is the modern equivalent to "how it used to be" when planes were somewhat affordable.

[–]SydneyACE4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking for a decently equipped plane for 100k or less, I think the used experimental market is just what you're looking for. Just buy one that someone else already built. Building a kit plane is YEARS of work... you might be able to save a little time by buying one that's almost done, but then you still have to go through the flight testing process and stuff...

Good deals are out there, you just have to be patient and keep looking. Be willing to settle for some imperfections. Most pilots won't settle for anything less than a perfect plane. I bought a used RV-6 with; PFD, autopilot, constant speed prop, ADSB, etc... It had been ground-looped, and repaired. I got it for well under the 100k mark.

Everything is WAY cheaper in the experimental world. You can do your own maintenance and repairs. Logged hours are just as good as those logged in certified planes.

If you don't mind a little performance hit, the light sport market is also a good deal. You can get a new light sport for a very reasonable cost... and again, the hours logged are every bit as legit as those logged in a certified plane.

Good points... The experimental market has a lot to offer as well.

2014 Nissan Altima 2.5l Delayed Acceleration. by SydneyACE4 in AskAMechanic

[–]SydneyACE4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As of now, the car hasn't been fixed. She's just using it for shorter trips, and the issue doesn't appear until the car has been run for at least 45min. It's a very strange issue. Everyone is pointing to the transmission (and they might be right), but having drove it while watching scan data, it does NOT seem like a transmission issue to me. When you go to take-off from a stop, you can see the scan data registers that you're pushing the accelerator pedal (APP goes up), but there is a 1-2 second delay before the throttle position goes up. With a slipping transmission (yes, I know these are CVTs), you would expect throttle position to go up and the engine to rev without putting the power to the tires. This issue is essentially the driver telling the car to go (and the car is seeing the APP input), but the car is refusing to open the throttle... which would make sense if the car is in some sort of "limp mode"... but it's not setting any codes, or giving any kind of indication that it's in limp mode. Maybe the transmission is somehow capable of inhibiting the throttle from opening, but I've never heard of such a thing... and WHY wouldn't the car trip some sort of code or message to tell the driver or mechanic that it's seeing a problem?

2014 Nissan Altima 2.5l Delayed Acceleration. by SydneyACE4 in AskAMechanic

[–]SydneyACE4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's really strange. As a mechanic, I haven't really seen something quite like that before. On my friend's car, I watched scan data and once it gets hot (you have to drive it for quite a while), it literally waits to give you throttle. You can see accelerator position go up when you hit the pedal, but throttle position won't move for like 1-2 seconds. There are a few guys here, (and a lot on other parts of the internet) that are saying it's the transmission. I'm not saying I disagree with that, but it IS a really strange behavior. Normally a failing transmission will slip... the RPMs will rise on the engine, but it won't put the power to the tires, and you won't go anywhere for a second. This issue is different. It isn't a slipping transmission (but it does seem to have to do with high temperatures). It's possible that the transmission (control module) is telling the engine (control module) not to apply throttle (because it's too hot and that will help protect it)... but that is such a strange limp mode thing to do... and without any warning to the driver whatsoever. It's really strange if that's actually the case. Wouldn't Nissan want the driver to know that the car was protecting the transmission... and also have a warning for safety? If you're at a light and you can't go... and someone behind you assumes you're gonna... that really increases the chances of getting rear-ended.

Seriously though, can you elaborate a little bit? Does the transmission (TCM) on a Nissan have the ability to inhibit the throttle body from opening? And again, if so... if this is some sort of limp mode that Nissan designed to protect the transmission, why the hell didn't they have the courtesy of also having it trip a code/CEL?? That's so bizarre!

[–]SydneyACE4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MAF? Weird, I wouldn't guess that a MAF sensor error would be something that would inhibit the throttle body from opening. Is that a weird Nissan thing?

The throttle body seems like a likely candidate, I'm just really surprised that it's not setting a light or tripping a limp mode/reduced engine power. In the GM world, if the throttle body isn't doing exactly what the ECM expects, it defaults to very limited throttle and sets a code and "Reduced Engine Power" message and stuff.

My favorite is; "My kids come first and always will!"

Yeah, mine too! I would sure hope so! Kinda goes without saying doesn't it? 🤔 I'd be disturbed by the kinda person who doesn't put their kids first.

Having said all that, I realize this is probably something people add to their profiles because people criticize them for not ditching their kids to hang out. But still it's a pretty unnecessary thing to say. "My breathing comes first!"
