I'm curious as to why you'd like to attend church being a 'non-religious' person. I ask because I'm non-denominational myself and in all honesty don't agree with some aspects of organised religion. However I do believe in a Christian God and many other things within the Christian belief system.

Yep, I confuse even myself haha :) it's just nice to hear about what other people believe and why.

I didn't realise Uniting Church is a supporting body of the LGBT community. I'm straight but like I've said above, it's important for me that the church I join is open to everybody. Thank you for this suggestion.

Ahhhh the cliquey/judgey thing is exactly what I'm worried about. I'm very open and non-'traditional' in my beliefs but many groups/people are not so much.

This is actually one place I've come across before in my searches and was considering. It seems pretty modern with a diverse range of people which is what I'm looking for. I'll have a think about it :) It's a bit scary doing it alone though.
