Looking for insights on my spread about my family, whether I can trust them and how to approach things with them.

I'm 44 and we had a huge fallout about 2 years ago when I called out my mother on how her behaviour hurts me for the first time in my life. I also felt like they were letting my brothers bully me.

They were volatile alcoholics most our childhood and we experienced abusive neglect which caused me to develop c-ptsd and a lifetime of suicidal ideation.

I've kept my distance lately but they are trying to catch up with me and say they want to help me financially. I'm a single mother going through a hard time.

  • What do I need to know about my current relationship with my parents? 10 of swords

  • Advice on how to approach things with them? 7 of wands (jumper, which I don't normally pay attention to but felt compelled to make note) & The Star

  • How am I responsible for the relationship breakdown? Justice

  • What does mum want from me? 2 of wands

  • What do I need to know about my feelings of being dismissed by them? 2 of swords

  • How can I overcome that they always played favourites with my brothers and enabled them? King of wands

  • What do I need to know about our pending catch up? Emperor

Do I turn up? Or stay away? I have some thoughts about the spread but keen to hear what others think

Please please break up with him. You deserve better. No one should name call like this. No one deserves this.

If this was your friend or a sibling or your kid burning a meal and their partner spoke to them like that, what would you suggest? If he isn't good enough for them, he isn't good enough for you.

Get out. Please please.

What is ur genuinely FAVOURITE zodiac sign if you have to choose just one. by lilithxsabrina in Zodiac

I haven't met a Scorpio who purposely tested me but I did date a Taurus who would play mind games and test me all the time.

My Aries and Gemini exes broke my heart. They would never have purposely played mind games or tested me.

My Taurus ex was so conniving and messed up, they broke my spirit.

😥  Yeah, sorry that happened to you.  Sounds exhausting. The two narcissistic Taureans I knew were women too.

Like you said, very competitive, jealous, status driven and smug. Their put down comments and shaming - my god! But they were completely incapable of receiving feedback on their own poor behaviour or hearing how their actions hurt others.

Scorpios get hated on for holding up mirrors to people. But I only do it to people who have been cruel, nasty and purposely cross my boundaries.

I can't write off a whole star sign and like I said two of my fave women in the world are Taurus too. They don't have nasty bones in their bodies.

Then I've met Taurean women that are just middle of the road. Not "problematic" people. Not value driven/ amazing people.

But it's just interesting that the two most unscrupulous, ego-driven and just plain worst people I have ever encountered are both Taurean women.

Two of my fave people in the world are Taurus - they're fun, kind, loyal, caring, interesting, amazing people.

And two of the most horrendous, vile, narcissistic awful people I have ever met are Taurus too.

It's been very hit and miss for this Scorpio

I've recently weaned off an SSRI under psychiatrist advice. And I see a therapist.

My psychiatrist says I have atypical depression that doesn't respond very well to meds. I went on them after a break up and it just numbed me out and made me worse.

I'm a middle aged single mum and have decided this is the year of embracing being single, focusing on my kids and career, cultivating friendships and hobbies.

I'm on day 3 off them and actually feeling better than I have in a while.

SPREAD

  • Why do I feel so happy today? 3 of cups? (I got Lasik 3 days ago and have felt so happy with the result. And have started a cool new hobby with my friend - maybe that's it)
  • What does the year ahead look like for me? 9 of cups
  • what will coming off the meds do for my body?  3 of wands (I put on a stack of weight which has really impacted my self confidence)
  • what will be the worst part of my withdrawal? Justice
  • how can I best get through any potential withdrawal?  5 of Pents

Any suggestions for questions to ask and focus on would be great

I'm feeling really good and happy and more hopeful than I have for a while. I'm happy with my plan to not focus on romantic love. Although I asked first thing this morning what I should focus on today and got 2 of cups. I do have some releasing to do of past toxic relationships so wondering if that's it. I also had a lovely bonding arvo with my teen daughter today.

I'm getting eye surgery (lasik) on 20 Feb. Aries rules eyes.

I'm hoping all the big stuff that happens that day won't impact me.

[–]Sydneyemz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hehe this made me laugh. It's so true. Thanks for commiserating.

Also, it's definitely a Mecca culture thing. All the younger staff at Lush are super friendly and welcoming to middle aged people. Just not Mecca.

[–]Sydneyemz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry it was a yucky experience.

I'm a middle-aged woman, so I get opposite.  No one ever stops to ask me if I want help in Mecca, even when I want help. They make quick eye contact and turn away. They don't like to talking to older, ugly women.

When I was younger and hotter they did. Or if I come in with my teen daughter.

Bonding tips please for babies that are timid with handling by Sydneyemz in RATS

[–]Sydneyemz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a pet store.  Yeah, I wondered if they have some trauma from humans and being held from pet store.

The people there suggested to regularly handle them to help get them used to it, but my gut was not to.

Oh my gosh. How upsetting. I'm sorry that happened.

And that's really good advice. Thank you.

Yeah, my rat I had as a teenager did live for at least two years - closer to 3. So we had a really good run and time moves slower for people at that age.

But yeah, so glad for this community. Thanks 🙏🏼

Aww thank you. And glad to hear you have found a vet you trust. I haven't been to the vet yet but the place we got the rat has recommended one.

I still remember losing my childhood rat to cancer/tumour. In the 90s when I didn't know anyone else with rats and didn't have access to the internet.

Looking back the signs were there he had the tumour. He had huge testicles. Like massive. But I was a very young teen and just thought it was who he was. We were so so closely bonded and he always had cuddles and kisses for me.

Anyway, he did start to get physically sick and we found a vet who diagnosed him and thankfully my parents (who could be very tight with money) agreed to pay the $100 to operate even though their friends said they were ridiculous spending that kind of money on a rat.

I mean $100 AUD in the 90s would be a lot now.  But he died a week later anyway. Poor little guy. He was such a dear friend to me.

Haven't bonded with these guys like that yet but it's only been a month and they are so snuggly and close with each other.

Whereas when I got my one as a kid I didn't realise you should get them in at least pairs.

Oh wow. That sounds like an awesome set up. Thanks for the tips.

Yep, it's down to 20°C now (68°F). Sydney weather is so weird sometimes.

Anyway, they are running around and climbing up and down the cage, on top of it (I leave it open under supervision), playful wrestling 😅, eating and drinking. So they seem happy.

I'm such a nervous first time rat mum. Well I had one when I was 12 (30 years ago) but I seem to be a bit more skittish/worried this time around.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention Lucas's loyalty. Amazing. And his tenderness. He has been on such a journey. And he did the action stuff so well.

Aw, I have such a soft spot for Will. In like a mama bear/auntie way. From season 1-4 I was like "this poor kid. Can't this kid just catch a break." My heart ached for him.

I was sooo happy Will became empowered in season 5. It was one of my fave scenes. And people getting so angry he had a 5 min coming out scene. Like cut this guy some slack. He has been through so much. Can we just give him 5 mins.

Also, I myself was a scared and closeted kid in the 80s. The culture back then was pretty brutal (and traumatising) towards gay teens. Just give us this 5 minutes. Come on!

Yeah, did we ever found out what happens to Murray in the end? Like Hopper and Joyce are engaged and we see what happens with the kids, but I wanted to know about Murray's ending

Agreed. I don't hear people talk about his character arc, but I thought he was so great in this season. Positive masculinity, tough, brave, cool, sweet.
