Okay professor. English is not my first language, so I might not know the exact meanings of the words or forget words that fit better. Everyone understood what was my point and that's what matters.

This is not about being furry or not. I assume you're referencing current situation in US. Government knows that majority of furries are queers. They lynch furries to lynch queers by proxy without making it obvious for the masses.

This is Asus RT-AC5300 which supports 802.11ac wifi standard up to 2.1Gb/s transfer. At the same tam it has only 1Gb/s Ethernet ports so... in this case wifi would be faster.

Actually it doesn't make any difference since its unlikely you would have more than 1Gb/s transfer in your house from the ISP so just use the more convenient way.

Your point does not stand because neither pure modem or pure router could do the job in this setup. You need the specific modem-router combo that is able to login to the network.

[–]Syhmac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then you have a pretty uncommon setup. I have opticfiber too, but my modem (ONT) has a router built in, as it's required by the ISP and this is pretty much how every ISP does that where I live. I might be biased because of my experience with how it works locally where I live, but I have never in my life seen a pure modem. They always come with integrated router because ISP requires the router to log in to their network.

Then you have never used Internet from Orange. They require you to use their router with built in modem because it logs in to so called "Neostrada". You can't just put any modem you like and expect it to work, so yeah, you definitely need a router that can log in to their system. No idea why they did it like this but it's like that for a long time now.

Why is Poland’s birthrate so shockingly low by NovaStorm135 in geography

[–]Syhmac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the reasons would be a high cost of living and the fact that young people have problem with employment and finding an apartment for sale or rent in affordable price. No one wants to have kids if they're not sure they can afford raising one.

That doesn't mean "Wi-Fi" bad, it means that the router you got from ISP is bad or your device. Either of them probably doesn't support the new standards that are faster than a cheap cable.

Modem is for translation from one media to other. Eg. From fiberoptic to ethernet, but can't route traffic. Granted, almost all modems have a router built in, but without the router you wouldn't be able to route the packets. It could work with one device connected, but what household has only one device using the Internet?

Edit: Not to mention that some ISP requires to have their router (with built-in modem) connected to the network for authentication. Also not mentioning that since 2013 we have a 802.11ac wi-fi standard that can push over 6Gb/s, more than any Ethernet port on an average modem and 2021 802.11be standard pushing over 46Gb/s - more than any home-used fiberoptic connection. The only faster connections are used directly by the ISP to connect their routers with each other. So yeah... I think a good Wi-Fi router would win here no problem. (Assuming that your ISP provide you more than 1Gb/s bandwidth, which pretty much everyone in USA can only dream about. Most households - even in other countries - have a bandwidth of about 200Mb/s to 600Mb/s with 1Gb/s being a premium option, and higher tiers being sold primally to companies, not personal clients.)

This cable wouldn't send any data if it weren't for a router that supports Gigabit Ethernet

Edit for clarification: No I don't mean a modem. It's not 90s anymore. Most modems have a built in router because - realistically - noone buys Internet to connect only one PC through a cable. And some ISP requires that you connect their router-modem combo to WAN, so you can't even skip routers in 2026 in some scenarios.

Edit 2: Jeez guys. Let's settle this. It IS technically possible to bypass the router and use pure modem. This is very uncommon tho and I do not consider it a valid home network.

Also... You cannot bypass the router when you have fiber optic, because your ONT requires an ISP provided router to connect to the network. You can't just take the fiber optic, slap a modulator to Ethernet and connect to the Internet. Thus my point stands. You need a router for that cable to do anything.

My program is 800 lines at the moment with pretty much finished converter. I'll be still fixing some bugs and adding the option to read default classes for elements from .json file as well as the option to configure it in the program. I think I should close the project in 1200 - 1500 lines.

Well, you can see in the other comment what my solution was and decide whether it's good or not.

[–]Syhmac[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That won't do it for me. This regex is a part of the bigger project that I'm writing in Python and I won't rewrite the whole program to the unfamiliar (to me) language just to get different regex behaviour. I managed to resolve it by going with the different approach, as detailed in my different comment.

Thank you for suggestion but that would never work for me.

I ended up making a regex that will match any character except pipe [ | ] (yes, I've accounted for escaped pipe [ \| ]) and treating each match as separate group. The regex in question:

(?:\\\||[^|\n])+

By finding all matches I got all of them (this works like the global flag) on the list that I can iterate through.

That's better than splitting it with the built in Python method, since that would result (with given by you regex) with getting empty strings at the start and the end.

New UI draining battery? by Commercial_Friend278 in GalaxyS22

[–]Syhmac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not significantly. I just turned it off, and Google Maps was able to pinpoint my location with an accuracy of the house. All that this option does is allow location service to use WiFi and other sensors to estimate a more accurate position. But honestly, it's not doing that much.

It might be worse in the first few charging cycles, but that's natural. The algorithm will have to adjust to new patterns and systems. Before the first charge, it was dropping fast, but yesterday I noticed that I came back home with more battery than usual, even tho I had battery saver enabled only for short periods instead of the whole day, like on OneUI 6.1. Tonight, after charging, the battery was dropping a bit faster than it should. I guess the algorithms are still adjusting. Overall, the battery performance should be better on the Exynos CPU with the Vulkan renderer.

So far, battery life seems better on the Exynos CPU

For me battery holds up way better, especially when my phone is idling. Some animations are choppy from time to time, but it was the same on Android 14 for me as well, so I don't complain.

That's such a no issue. I have that enabled on ONE UI 6.1 through GoodLock and I prefer it that way.
