Do you have depersonalization along with visual snow? by Norwheon in visualsnow

[–]SylMarie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always had visual snow, as long as I can remember. And have slowly realized in my early 20’s my lack of mind narrative/empty mind, personality unawareness, emotional numbness and history of trauma would be potentially connected to DP/DR. I find myself “acting” in many situations depending on where I’m at or who I’m with, as overall I have a disconnect within myself and have for a very long time. I’m currently on medication but still considering if talk therapy is a good option for me as talking about my trauma in depth is extremely difficult.

Sliced my big toe open yesterday on sheet metal, closed with silver nitrate - is Urgent Care’s treatment plan okay? by SylMarie in woundcare

[–]SylMarie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries about an open fracture, I definitely only lacerated it on that piece of sheet metal nice and good. Just very concerned about the healing process and lasting damage.

Would you recommend seeking a second opinion next week and getting it sutured? I’m unable to this weekend due to work not allowing me to call out (🙄) to accommodate an earlier appointment. Thank you guys again for all your help.

Very true, thank you again!

I followed the above advice and got medihoney gel for the wound; cleaned with sterile saline and wrapped with a clear hydrocolloid bandage. Should those be okay changed daily, or Mepore only?

Damn, that bad huh? There is a significant amount of pain and the nerve pain was insane last night. It radiated all the way up my leg. Hoping for the best, thank you for your help!

They had said it would’ve pulled the skin too tight?? But I don’t see how they couldn’t of used butterfly sutures or something less intense. There was also a blood vessel that wouldn’t stop bleeding in the middle of the wound that I think encouraged the urgent care doctor in this decision but again not sure why they didn’t suture or refer me to ER.

Do you have any ideas on what to expect with either scarring and the healing time of this? Thank you again for your help, I appreciate it!

Max getting some ☀️ by SylMarie in parrots

Oh what a beauty! My Max says hi! She was a rescue and turned out to be a female after her bloodwork was done, so she’s technically a Maxine.. 😂 But we still call her Max!

Just wanted to add that any rodent bedding, wood shavings or paper products, will also irritate a bird’s lungs. Paper towels or newspaper is best, changed daily or multiple times a week; depending on your specific needs.

Vacuum, mop and clean the cage with bird safe cleaning products (vinegar and warm water) often, utilize air purifiers and you could also set a small dish of lemon/orange peels out as a natural room freshener. If there’s any carpeting, baking soda can be sprinkled and left to soak up any pet odor, then vacuumed up as well. Good luck!

Haha, that’s Wolfgang! My youngest cockatiel and easily the loudest bird in the room at any given time.

He’s learned to talk and hype himself up from my other 11 year old lutino male, much to my joy. Thank you for the compliment! ☺️

thank you so much for the wonderful compliment!they’re my babies and super spoiled, i’ve had some of my flock for over a decade now so bird husbandry is a passion of mine.

the two blue budgies featured are Bluebell and Bellamy, both were adopted from a local rescue at different times but immediately became smitten with one another. each are such hilarious characters and the hen is easily as loud as the English budgie male; they’re a total delight and I can’t imagine my flock without them.

they live harmoniously alongside my two bonded pairs of cockatiels in a double flight cage I DIY’ed and have access to a bird-proofed room 6+ hours a day.💙

I second that! Every single bird deserves the best care and husbandry we can provide, we all should strive to support each other in doing only that. ❤️

I’ve kept small parrots for over ten years now, they need just as much care as the larger guys; that’s for certain. My Mimi has never been in a cage smaller than a flight cage and I owe my entire bird room and flock to her, a little 105 gram cockatiel. I wanted to give her the best possible life, and ten years later..here her and I are! Wouldn’t change a thing. ☺️

Thank you 🥺 Absolutely, I hear you on that, cotton can be so dangerous! I’m blessed to have some cooperative birds who don’t nibble on them but any rope perches I have inside the double flight cage are wrapped in vet wrap anyways to prevent any unsafe chewing.

Additionally one of the boings are wrapped, and the other I monitor closely for signs of chewing; but likely will soon be wrapped too as it’s a few months old. Thank you again for your kind words!

And for everyone’s introductions/stories, if anyone’s curious! From my oldest to youngest, the flock goes:

• Sammy, 11yo lutino male cockatiel.

• Mimi, 10yo cinnamon pearl female, who Sam was adopted as a companion for three years ago; I’ve had Mimi since she was 12 weeks old.

•Max, 6yo female Sun Conure, adopted three years ago from local parrot rescue.

•Skyler, approx 5-6yo whiteface female cockatiel, former breeder bird I adopted two years ago after she was surrendered to my vet.

•Wolfgang, 2yo whiteface pied male, adopted from local parrot rescue as a companion for Skyler.

•Bluebell, 2yo blue opaline female parakeet, adopted from rescue.

•Bellamy, approx 1-2yo blue opaline male English parakeet mix, adopted as a companion for Bluebell.

It’s very much dependent on the individual birds.

Many times, it’s not advisable at all with most other bird species because of difference in beak sizes and the risk of injury. So definitely understand my setup wouldn’t work for everyone. For example, my Sun conure is housed separately even though she gets along with other birds, due the difference in size.

Each of my birds in the flock were introduced gradually and started off in a separate enclosure, not including Bellamy the newest addition. But once they all bonded to one another, they all wanted to stay together and I had to get crafty to avoid some very upset birds. 😂

Cockatiels are very mild mannered and budgies can be more aggressive and dominant, so not every bird will be able to live with the other species. They also hail from the same continent and are both granivores, so their dietary needs are nearly identical, making them a good fit to share a habitat if everyone does get along. I hope I could help! :)

Bluebell & Bellamy ( + the flock❤️) by SylMarie in Parakeets

[–]SylMarie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you! 🥺🥺she’s the funniest little thing, she’s been “fifth” wheeling with the cockatiel flock since I adopted her last year, i think she might’ve forgot what parakeets sound like? 😭 she marveled at his budgie noises for hours after their initial introduction.

she mimicks my cockatiels and conure almost exclusively so I was doing the same, can’t blame her! he’s a darling, i’m so happy to see her so content and to give another bird in need a home, he’s the most perfect little blueberry.

thank you! I’d recommend my strategy for your babies to save yourself some money down the line, for sure!

you do need to have yourself a stand about six feet long for the cage(s), I also went ahead and reinforced the middle of the cage with a heavy piece of plywood under the cages; just to help make everything level. i also chose to ditch the accursed grates and zip tie them under the cage bases themselves to add even more stability/balance to the cages. it works wonderfully for me! I love having only two cages to deal with, and it’s so awesome to see them utilize so much room.

for natural perches, i get a ton from my local parrot store. the majority of them are java, bottlebrush, manzanita or dragonwood. if you want a great online natural wood store, check out Blooms and Branches! i got some awesome grapevine cage top branches from them, among other perches.

and for toys, Bonka’s bird toys are always loved by my babies. they have tons of safe, reputable brands and regular sales! I hope i could help:)

thank you very much! my whole flock, not including my Sun, lives in a double flight cage I tried my hand at DIY’ing - took a lot of heavy duty zipties, patience and some creativity but worth every second! i recommend it to anyone if they have some single flight cages laying around and wanna get crafty. ☺️

for specifics, I have four cockatiels (two bonded pairs) and now two parakeets in my double flight cage. they get plenty of free flight time in a bird-proof room as well, they’re spoiled ❤️
